Super common Fluke issue and easy fix. My first Fluke was an 88 and just about that vintage too, 91 or 92. Sold if 4 years ago and still working like new, with case and the spark plug clamp. Learned a lot with that meter! Bought a few other Flukes over the years too, but held on to that one the longest.
That looked reasonably easy. I wish this was an option way back when. I had one of these many years ago & the display mostly went out on it. The only option I was given by the tool truck guy was to send it in & have it "rebuilt". The cost of the rebuild service was almost the cost of a new meter. I ended up chucking it & buying a Snap-On Vantage Meter, which I still have today. It was a nice upgrade. The seemingly quick failure of the Fluke meter, combined with the high purchase price has turned me off to the Fluke brand for most of my adult life. A grudge that I still hold to this day.
I have the 88V. That must be an early version as I don’t have the blue buttons. Mine looks more like the 87V. Good to see a well used meter go back into operation.
Thanks for your video. I have what appears to be the exact meter thats in your video. It is a Fluke 88. MY screen is very "dim", at leats looking straight on. Looking at an low angle it's better. I have replaced the zebra stripe connectors and ive replaced the polarizer. The display is still dim. One difference I did see is the circuit board where the zebra strips go seams to have some sort of printed carbon -looking ink/paint, not the solder pads like the one in your video. Maybe mine is an older one? The circuit board says "copyright 1990". That just may be for the board. Have you run into this before? I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks again.
I noticed gadgetuk64 cleaned his strips. this is the way I was taught as well, before replacements were available. I know this customer of yours already obtained the parts, but was cleaning potentially an option? I have an old Radio Shack digital meter from the 1980s that will forever be a shelf queen, but the segments are not working well, and I'd like it to at least work.
Fluke has lifetime warranty. If the customer would send the unit, it will be repaired for free including parts. I had a dim buzzer on my Fluke 287 and did send it for warranty repair. No cost for me
Great bringing that fluke meter back to life. That customer will be ecstatic!

Where to order a repair kit?
9:37 - Once you clean them, it should be OK to also put graphite, which will conduct on press, rubber it self will not conduct, if its regular rubber.

I may have to pull the patch resistor off of my 87V and send it in to have a complete repair done then.
Wow, and I threw out my old Sony Digital home phone away because it had the zebra style lcd display that was going bad. Damn! That sux.
Would like to see a vid on calibrating a Fluke meter.
If I had the calibrator, I would certainly do a video on it.
