when i press command option P & R, mac doesn't go off. the first chime sound comes and that is it. it stays like that till the password comes. what could be wrong and what do i have to do ? MY model A1278
You have to be quick to press the keys If still having issues try and use a USB keyboard If not an apple keyboard use Windows key plus ALT P and R keys
IT works on every mac that is 2010 and before. The firmware password is saved on the ram stick. Every mac after 2010,they actually have a build in chip that has the saved password.. more like iclould lock ..
(2006-2010) - The firmware password could be removed by removing the battery, one stick of ram, and resetting the PRAM 3 times. (2011-2017) Apple changed this when they soldered the memory to the logic board. The only way to remove the firmware password was to contact Apple. @@SergeyLuis
So what happens when you reinstall the stock ram, is the password removed or does the firmware password screen pop up again? Also... how do you do this if you don't have an extra stick of ram to replace the current stick?
Once the password is clear putting the ram back does not change the status once cleared it’s cleared just be aware if your macOS is high sierra or newer this method will not work .if you have two sticks take out one and follow the video prompts

What year is the MacBook ?
Have you removed the ram ?
@@GigabyteWorld it’s model A1278 I believe it’s a 2012 and yes
@@blancavasquez8332 try using a usb keyboard
hey bro hope ur doing well :) I was wondering if this procedure will only work if I have two slots of ram bc I only own one right now and didn’t worked for me. I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro. So... should I get another one and try again or am I doing something wrong? plz let me know 🙂
This one hack is dependent on two factors a change in ram and old firmware before high Sierra .I would add one more stick if if you have 2 GB make it four if you have 4 make it 8 or 6
@@GigabyteWorld I have high sierra, what can I do about it?
Unfortunately this would not work on High Sierra I would take the MacBook to a computer shop let them remove the firmware lock 🔒
@@GigabyteWorld Sad, but thank you for the help anyways.
Thank you
Any idea if this will work in my 2017 pro v 11.6?
Unfortunately this method would not work on a 2017 Pro because the ram is not removable
Anyone know it’s works on iMac 2013?
01:15 - You never said what year your Macbook Pro was. I heard this method can only work with Macs up to 2011.
It’s a 2010 this only works up to 2012
@@GigabyteWorld oh really? That's good then. Mine is a 17" Pro 2012. Hopefully I can get it done.
It worked thank you SO much!!!
Good to hear it worked
when i press command option P & R, mac doesn't go off. the first chime sound comes and that is it. it stays like that till the password comes. what could be wrong and what do i have to do ?
MY model A1278
You have to be quick to press the keys
If still having issues try and use a USB keyboard
If not an apple keyboard use Windows key plus ALT P and R keys
@@GigabyteWorld I’m confused another keyboard or you talking on the Mac ?? Q
@@deshawnwells3190 yes use a USB keyboard if you have one
hello, I have 2020 mac book pro does it work for me??
I am sorry I think your Mac is too new this method works on machines with older firmware.
ALSO is this a way of Factory resenting it!???
This does not factory reset it it only removes the firmware password
@@GigabyteWorld thank you for your reply also Do you know how to factory reset it!?? Also do I need to replace the ram or can I just put the same one
If I don’t hv a ram
Open the Mac up and check how many sticks of ram you have installed take out one and follow the video prompts
Thanks. Worked great on my Mid 2010 Macbook.
Good to hear it worked
IT works on every mac that is 2010 and before. The firmware password is saved on the ram stick. Every mac after 2010,they actually have a build in chip that has the saved password.. more like iclould lock ..
@@elchacal535 I want to buy a macbook mid 2010, with Lion OS, but it's manufactured in 2011-2012. Will it work on it?
@@GigabyteWorld I want to buy a macbook mid 2010, with Lion OS, but it's manufactured in 2011-2012. Will it work on it?
(2006-2010) - The firmware password could be removed by removing the battery, one stick of ram, and resetting the PRAM 3 times. (2011-2017) Apple changed this when they soldered the memory to the logic board. The only way to remove the firmware password was to contact Apple. @@SergeyLuis
Will this work on my macbook pro 2010?
Please help me
I can't remember what my firmware is but I just keep getting the padlock
Hello there.. What about macbook air ? Can you help ?
Sorry I do not think this works for MacBook Air ram is not removable
Would this work on a 2012 MacBook Air
This Megiddo is for the pro but try
In addition to 1GB, would it be possible to add another 2GB??
Yes you can what year is the MacBook it does not have to be one 1 GB as long as you change the amount of ram
Será posible en una MacBook Pro 2015?
No es posible en ano 2015 solo asta 2012
You cant remove the ram on the 2015.
@Gigabyte World I need your help
How can I help
Hi ,
Can you please help me my model is A1278. Guid me..
Hi do you still need help
Which OS are you running on the Mac
Is their a way to do this on a MacBook Air a1932?
Unfortunately this method involves the removal of ram would not work on the air but you can take the Air to a computer store in your area
It didn't work on my a1278
Depends on the firmware on your mac
Will this work by only removing one piece of original RAM while leaving the other in?
Yes it will work as long as your Mac has not been updated to high Sierra or newer OS this trick works .
@@GigabyteWorld no clue if it has sierra, I’ll have it fixed in Switzerland or Qatar. I’m leaving the states to work for good overseas. Thanks man.
@@seanmchenry551 wishing you all the best Sean
@@GigabyteWorld I highly doubt that anything close to “the best” will happen to me. But thanks none the less. Peace out Americas.
@@seanmchenry551 it will work out stay positive Sean
thankyou!! worked great for me :)
Good to hear this worked for you
I did all the steps as you did and when im trying to turn on the Mac and Press command option p and r, nothing happens and after a minute folder icon shows up with a question Mark, and when i restart it with command and r i get the same mesaage with lock. Can you advise me what im doing wrong?
Hi there the flashing folder means you have an Operating system issue your Mac can’t communicate with the OS .
Maybe a bad hard or SSD or bad Operating system /software .
Try running internet recovery
Turn off computer when you turn it back on press and hold Command + R keys right after it chimes keep holding them until you see internet recovery post what happens using that key combination
Hi, thanks for the Quick answer, i have tried different hard drives, even one with os already installed on it from different Mac, when i Press command and r im getting the lock icon still nothing shows up, i have checked the key board all the Keys are working
Quick questions what year is the MacBook
Which OS did you have in the hard drive before you tried the firmware password removal trick ?
@@GigabyteWorld its macbook pro early 2011, i have Got the Mac with an Old software i dont remember which one, i wanted to format the hard drive and i did, after the format this lock icon showed and it doesnt let me do anything
The reason I was asking about the OS is because the method shown in the video works for machines with older firmware before High Sierra .I would give it another try remember to remove one stick of ram and also make sure you hold command option p + r right after the chime sound hold them until the machine chimes 3 times
If i take out my two memory sticks i have no way to start the computer for my fix
You only have to take out 1 stick not both
Take out 1 the follow the steps on the video
@@GigabyteWorld thank you
i fucking love you man i dont know how to thank you OMG I cant believe that worked i opened this video with no hope and it worked Hail to u
No worries just click on the video click on the button that says super thanks on the right side
