One of my favorite songs from Dinosaur Jr! These people commenting must not be familiar with J and how he rolls. Dinosaur Jr. has always been known for their drastic dynamic changes, J's nasaly vocal style, and epic guitar solos. Either you like it or you don't! I fucking love it.

You just have to love J.'s low key manner. 30+ years and the guy never has tried to sell us a bill of goods, as he just makes great music with epic guitar work. Love that he's here to keep my faith in real music. Keep on rockin' Mascis!

It never ceases to amaze me the comments that every J Mascis video posted on TH-cam gets. The amount of trolls that come out - why are they even bother watching him!!! J has had the exact same personality and guitar style for the past 25 years plus. People that love him love him, that is why he still tours and puts out music. If you don't like him, stop taking time out of your empty boring life to watch videos of him!
+Finniganmydog Actually that's not quite true, he's a genial older man now but at the time of this recording I think he was having a bit of a crisis, the suits, the hats and the rather surly attitude, all perhaps the result of the Barlow fall out and a desire to get some 'respect'. I dont think he'd have been a nice person to know at this period. But of course he never stopped being a great guitarist and songwriter
Been a fan since Green Mind came out in '91. Heading to Toronto in two weeks to see him play. Each time is better than the last. Working on this song this week to play at an open mic next week.
Green mind was my gateway to dinosaur Jr also. I then quickly bought "your living all over me" (still my favorites) and "bug" before "where you been" came out in 93.
I was there. Kinda bummed at lou's sound. J sounded great. I really liked the other line up in the early to late 90's. Saw them 3 times in the 90's best memories
I was in high school when this record came out. Still great after all these years.

It is 2024, I've been listening to this man since the 80s and always will. So much material to listen to, but I always come back to "Where You Been" and "Get Me" and "Start Choppin'". I just love everything about his writing, playing and singing style and his songs really seem to hit deep for me.
Where You Been came out when I was in high school and it changed my life. I think Get Me is actually the first D Jr song I learned on guitar.
This was great. I remember Dino Jr. when they debuted. Didn’t care much then, but love the sound now. J is an awesome singer and guitarist.

So...I've known Dino Jr since the early 90s. Always had respect for his playing. Rediscovering the lyrics these days...well last 5 years. I'm kind of a generational DJ fan. I've noticed on the album version...it's a lot harder to sing to! His voice has improved over the years. Looked this up today because I'm in the middle of reading of Mark Lanegan's autobio.

Jeffrey Thomas Are you kidding me? Can you play even this song? J's playing is suberb and interesting. He creates all these rhythms and melodies by himself. His cleans are pristine and he has a cool fuzz tone. What's the problem? This song isn't a very good example of lack of musicianship.

At 3:51 if the hair on your neck doesn’t stand up… I am a fan of all J’s music, but this might be my favorite solo of any song. I just wish it lasted for about 10 minutes longer

By the way, hes playing his Squier! signature version that guitar center probably asked him to use for promotion. He stoped here during his current tour and seems like a last minute thing. However, he owns one just like that, but upgraded tone pros bridge and seymour duncan antiquities pickups. Not factory Chinese shit. Besides Get me was written for acoustic. Also everyone and their dog like this interviewer, who doesn't have the slightest clue about the vast discog. of J and Dino loves to hear just this one tune like its his only 'Hit'

The solo is always improvised, I think that if he stuck to a version it would give better results. Very good performance anyway, he even cares to sing nicely.
I turned to the speed to 0.5x to try and hear the guitar notes better and his voice came on... lol

mascis played the solos on this song so slowly on the record, really pared back the notes. he can't seem to chill out that much on his solos these days.

Nick Harman I was at one of his concerts once and after his set you could see him looking at the crowd eating a samwhich before he came on for an encore
i saw him play a gig in a ten in sydney. he was shambling across the grass before the gig and i saw him from a long way away. No one was bothering him or seemed to know who he was. I was gonna scream out 'J!!!' but then i realized how much he would hate that, so I just let him go.
