Excellent compendium. I’ve long known of the existence of not only homosexuality but normalized relationships between African men. Thanks to Christianity, these beautiful, harmless traditions have been demonized in law and community.

When African Leaders and Politician unyoke themselves of the Burden/Descrimination/ Fear of Colonialist reLIEgion and culture. Then ONLY will African People come into their own once again. Our African Family History shows that we had a Deeper understanding of Human Relationships and that homosexuality had and has a place within our FAMILY.

White guy here... This is very fascinating. Thank you for enlightening us on the subject. I know this isn't African related, but I remember reading in a college antrhopology class about certain tribes in Papua New Guinea where institutionalized homosexuality was practiced. In these tribes, it was a kind of right of passage for younger men to give oral copulation to older men with the intent of receiving their semen. The semen in these tribes was understood as the substance that would transform the boys into men. So in order to do so, they needed to ingest the semen. I don't recall if this was also achieved through anal sex. It was understood that this was done for only a certain period in the young man's life; likely through puberty. It was frowned upon/considered taboo, to continue the practice after puberty. In all these instances of homosexual relations between men, I suspect that many of them arose as responses to not being able to freely relate sexually with women due to cultural prescriptions and norms. Gay relations became a culturally accepted, or at least nominally culturally accepted, way to bypass those restrictions. Again, thank you for your video. I look forward to viewing and learning from your future offerings . . .

You are right - I learned the exact same thing during a Polynesian religions class in college. Any man of that particular tribe in Papua New Guinea who had not repeatedly consumed another man's semen is never considered a true man or a warrior...basically they would be shunned by the rest of the tribe.

No.6: Uganda. Before missionaries invaded Africa, there was a Buganda King(tribe) who always had sexual relationship with younger males in his kingdom. When Christianity came, they were preaching against the practice and the boys converted to Christianity. The king ordered their execution who had turned down his orders and now we celebrate them as Uganda martyrs(all are young boys) on June 3. Till now, the king's title to address him is 'bba ffe' meaning our husband. Both men and women lay on the ground in front of the king to show submissiveness.

In many cultures around the world. Same sex relationships, were common. They lived in committed relationships. As a family, and we're valued members of their societies. Organize religions, started this hate crusade, against gay people. To promote, that they are morally superior. Which they aren't. Hypocrites, who are gay, have gay relationships in secret. And hide behind the Hypocrisy, of their Christian beliefs. Some cultures in Africa" saw nothing wrong with gay relationships. Were evolved, before there time. They weren't threatened, by these relationships. Because they were working members of the community. Who contribute to the success of the community. By defending, protecting, growing food, building and constructing homes. Caring for the sick and injured. Many were also spiritual leaders, and teachers. Many were Sangomas" a Bantu word, For healers. There is no such thing, as a Witch doctor, this was a racist word used by colonizers. To wrongfully describe, Sangomas" African Healers. Gay people" have always been here. In many cultures around the world. African cultures, were more advanced, Rather, than with fear and hate. They were, accepting and respecting of gay people. As worthwhile members. Of their societies. ❤🖤❤️🖤 Africa 🌍

This is very refreshing to see Africa has a gay history of any kind. I had a preacher from Kenya argue with me when I was calling their anti gay laws barbaric, he argued there were no gays in Africa... to which I said if your oppressive governance is so bad homosexuals are outlawed then it was obvious you were never capable of self rule, and should have been kept as a colony under a civilised control.

Abraham Lincoln and Joshua Speed are an example which comes to mind of two men who loved each other who went on to get married to women. It was a NORMAL occurrence but you would never know this from the "history" we've been taught.

I have noticed since childhood that queer people would greatly benefit from having an area designated for them considering the bigotry that has spread through religion and media. As a result division has dismantled the foundation on which same sex relationships exist. It has become increasingly necessary for a development of a homeland. designation can come from queer people simply consolidating for example, a mass migration would achieve this as the colonization of people is the contrast to developing a motherland. Naturally communities form based on culture while being connected to other communities resulting in designation not separation. Unfortunately we have not been able to benefit from such a dynamic as colonization has put us in a society formed like a cluster where not everyone intends to understand others resulting in certain groups being surrounded by their intolerance.

I am curious if women were given the same 'right' to marry other women... probably NOT.... but I would offer the explanation that many males would seek companionship with other males because women were probably expected to remain chaste unless married... therefore untouchable... what's a boy to do with all that energy?

Wow, thank you! I'm South African and I thought I knew gay history and I just got schooled about my own country. Humbling, it looks to me that this Christian agenda ruin way more than we even realised. Removing us from our spirituality, slowly changed our identity as a people, and as a race. Now we are so far removed from whom we are, we police each other to not return to our original self.
Today in most of Africa it's illegal to be gay, how we have been convinced to move backwards socially.
If we are too busy fighting ourselves, and hating + killing each other, we can't trust each other and won't have time to work together to protect our own resources and sovereignty from the world.
This Is how we moved from power to slaves, to beggars and labrats.
Wow, these people really gave this a thought and had the guts to even fallow through with it.
I weep for Africa, as It dawns on me how long and how much it will take to reverse ourselves back to who we were. Generations, blood, money, and lives secrificed, and we don't yet have the leaders brave enough to take the charge of the mission.
