Having put a 16” CZ 457 MTR in a both a KRG and an Oryx, the Oryx is the way to go. Sold my KRG and kept the Oryx. However, with that said, I like the factory stock on the Pro Varmint. It’s both attractive and comfortable.

I have a 10/22 in the KRG its too slick for my taste so I had to ad grip compound but it is light and on a lightweight target build but on my 457s I love my pro varmit mtr factory stock and on my Varmint Precision 457 is also pretty nice for factory not the biggest fan of the Luth-AR butt stock on the precision but it will work for now

I have the Pro Varmint on the KRG chassis. I like some things about it and some things I dont. I have the Athlon HELOS BTR GEN2 4-20×50 optic. I have a Ultradyne Apollo max comp on the barrel that definitely helped groups from original. I reprofiled some SK Standard Plus from .980 over all length to .960 with a Waltz die. The ogive went from .224 stock to .2255. The gun, shooting 10 shot groups, were sub moa @ 100 consistently with many going through the same hole. I only brought 2 boxes of SK so I switched to Fed Auto Match for the 50 and stacked them. These were not reprofiled. I noticed right off that fliers and groups were reduced and smaller with that Ultradyne on it. I had a pretty interesting test day to say the least.

The largest improvement that I saw was the much better stability with the bipod vs the bag.

Yes. The krg isnt much heavier so its not improving anything but having arca.
When we get to the other chassis the weight and balance will start helping a little more

This is a good example of why experienced shooters ask a newbie who is soliciting recommendations about what their intentions are before offering advice.
Weight is important for bench accuracy but sucks if you are hunting and hiking up a steep hillside.
As such this illustrates that the KRG isn’t going to gain anything for benchrest accuracy but it’s a good choice if you don’t want to lose anything for a lighter setup to hunt with.

Does the temperature of the ammo effect the accuracy at 50 or 100 yards? another comment on your aspirin and card shot..simply amazing..180 yards..WOW!!! you may want to double clamp the playing card to get the clean cut..not sure why TH-cam pulled that video... i suspect they're all jealous they can't shoot as good as you. Excellent vid. I'm thrilled to see you are going to show some other chassis' options.
I just put pro varmint in a MDT XRS. It was shooting 0.2's to 0.3's before and after. But, the feel in the heavier MDT chassis was much nicer. If it holds good groups out to 100, I won't be able to justify an aftermarket barrel , but might try it anyway for the play value.
Josh, I plan on going with the Ares eventually and Area 419 rail. What rings are you using with the Ares, and what height? thanks

  • @dickfitzwelliner2807

But does the extra weight that you prefer really even matter with a 22? I could agree with you if it was a semi auto, but it's a bolt gun and you have to reset your body every shot so recoil isn't really a factor as far as a follow up shot is concerned. This is all coming from a guy that has never done competition shooting, so there's that

    • @PursuitofAccuracy
      @PursuitofAccuracy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Weight will help with recoil, if needed. But weight also helps stabalize the rifle.
      Think about a 5lb rifle and a 20lb rifle.
When you start shooting off of props and obstacles that weight helps dull all the little movements your making behind the rifle.
The light rifle will shake as much as you do where the 20lb rifle will be much more stabile and steady

Since cz outsources almost all their stocks its really only going away from the factory trigger and barrel.
Trust me if they sokd the 457 in just the action I would buy that.
Whether or not its still a CZ is wildly debatable but to me its 100% a CZ still as its the cz action.

As I had predicted beforehand the stock was going to produce no negligible results in accuracy whatsoever. I don't think the CZ16 inch enjoys shooting Eley match I would implore you to switch to to Sk pistol match for 100 yds testing. Everything groups nice at 50 yds but I'm swearing the pistol match can hold .50 to .75 inch groups at 100 yds in stock configuration all day long!

It possibly could but were going to rebarrel it anyways so no need in taking the stock barrel testing any further

@@PursuitofAccuracy Excellent ! I am trying to figure out if it's worth rebarreling my 457. I have not had a chance to shoot past 50. I'm having a hard time imagining it getting better . I suspect the aftermarket barrel will be better at 100 and beyond.
