This show is excellent, from the joyful music at the start and ending, to the great writing and acting... It should be shown On TV stations all over the world. Our family loved it back in the 80s in Ireland 😄🇮🇪💚
As a 12 year old black girl in the Bronx in 1975, I understood all aspects of the show. My favorite is when Rhoda and Joe got married. My heart broke when they divorced. But loved the show in general including Carlton the doorman.
This episode made me cry. Harold Gould and Nancy Walker were outstanding. I love the way Martin says “sweetheart”. Love all of Ida’s lines and expressions.
I know I just saw it and I’m teary eyed! He sang so beautiful and felt every word! Talk about acting it didn’t seem that way! I felt it all as if it was true:)) and Nancy’s reaction to it was so believable, they are more than actors they were incredible
Yes, Harold Gould was amazing!! Martin Morgenstern was such an understanding, sweet-tempered, patient husband and father. But he never let himself be overpowered by his small but mighty wife, Ida. He diffused her aggressiveness with sly sarcasm, whenever it was needed. Martin was the kind of man that every woman wants. Every woman with an ounce of sense in her, that is. Harold Gould was a pleasure to watch. Check him out in a small supporting role in the great movie, "The Sting." You might notice Paul Newman and Robert Redford in there, too. Harold also played Rose's (Betty White) boyfriend, college professor Miles Webber, for a season or two, of 'The Golden Girls.' Wonderful there, too. He never lost that twinkle in his eye.
I love these reruns. the show was boring as a child. Now that I'm 54 years old. I enjoy watching every night before bed. I wish I had a relationship like Marty and lda. Wishing I had a husband to sing that song to me WHAT ARE YOU DOING THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. I couldn't stop crying. What a wonderful cast sending love to heaven. Thanks for bringing me joy
I LOVE that song. I knew the tune. Had NO IDEA the words. Thank you. (Course I rolled it back to the part to see) Now I can look it up and learn the words.
A lot of folks are unfamiliar with the show; more familiar with Mary Tyler Moore's. I don't see reruns of Rhoda on as much. American Life Network used to run the show at one point. Glad that folks upload episodes to TH-cam!
They did play "Rhoda" on Nick at Nite and I think on TV Land for a while when they first launched, both in the '90s. All 5 seasons are available on DVD, though.
Beautiful Valerie Harper was given months to live years ago and she’s still living life. When Valerie announced her diagnosis I never thought Mary would be gone before her
I felt the same way too. When looking back I always felt more like the Rhoda but to a certain degree because I felt like Mary too. I wasn't desperate to get married until I found the right person in my life.
Martin was adorable. And he was the most understanding man ever. Can you imagine what that household would have been like when Brenda and Rhoda were teens? LOL! Hands down my favorite character.
Lovely episode. Brilliantly written, bookended with the Sinatra classic. Watching this during the Coronavirus nightmare....(March 2020)....and this is a perfect antidote psychologically. Makes one wonder. Are the best created things in life REALLY about aspiring to high art which inspires the mind....or about something simple, humane that warms the heart? I'm erring to the latter.
They don't make them like Ida Morgenstern anymore. This episode was very endearing. Harold Gould and Nancy Walker were the perfect parents for Rhoda and Brenda.
"What are you doing the rest of your life?" A wonderful, beautiful love song. They don't write 'em like that anymore. Harold Gould sings it so well, with such heartfelt emotion. We wish he was singing it about us!!
I still wish they could've found a way on Golden Girls for Nancy and Harold to Intersect as Miles and Angela even for one scene, it would've been a nice nod. Maybe it was about moving forward in careers and being present idk but would've been a wink to the fans.
Does anyone remember 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show T.V. movie...they had daughters and Mary states,'Oh Rhoda, our daughters will be best friends!'? and it wasn't happening...I don't recall the movie other than that part...
People look today at class III obese models for body positivity, but Nancy Walker in this role is authentic body positivity. Though not a classic beauty, not super thin, not majestically tall (rather the reverse), or exaggeratedly voluptuous, Nancy Walker is a healthy beautiful woman whose personality and talent far outweighs the ridiculous expectations placed on women's standards of plastic surgery.
The perfect cast and they had to screw it up by getting rid of David Groh (Joe Gerard) and for a time, Harold Gould (Martin "Marty Morgan" Morganstern)
@@Vejur9000 That was likely written so the audience would start to dislike him. I am sure if the writers kept the character, the character's lack of ability to be a jerk wad would have continued.
I notice that Valerie tends to look towards the side near the camera shot as if to take direction or perhaps she had forgotten her lines, and looks at the autocue. She tends to pause and improvises sometimes. They must have filmed each episode in one whole evening and did close ups later.
You're still Jewish aren't you? You'll do anything to annoy me! When will we be even? Let's put it this way. You won't live to enjoy it! Ida delivered some great Jewish mother lines and she wasn't even Jewish!
Never really liked Rhode the TV show. They married Rhoda off way to soon. They close so many storyline options. Although their were some good episodes, especial the episode were Rhoda got married and drew a huge audience.
I think I'm the only person that did not like the wedding episode. I guess there was comedy to it but to see her running through the streets no. Never could stand Phyllis
Not really. This was real singing. Today is nothing but screaming, vocal riffs , brash yelling and no vibrato. Ever since Whitney Houston it’s been down hill with singers. The best came out of the 40s.
You need to remember that as you age your voice does change and these are two great performers. The voices may not be the same as when they're younger but the talent is still there and shows through brilliantly

@@Lifeafterthedarknarc So true! Loved to watch the tenderness Martin had for Ida, who could be so difficult at times. ❤❤❤
How I loved Harold Gould and Nancy Walker. 2 great legends. May they rest in peace...

Omg I can’t even deal with how CUTE THIS EPISODE WAS!!!!! Tears in my eyes with Marty’s song omg!! So heartfelt I hope to find a Marty someday soon💚
Absolutely gorgeous, wasn’t it
I love those cute old romantic songs like the ones he did. They are adorable and very sweet.
I'm wiping tears. Lovely ending.

This was a cute episode. Love Harold Gould and Nancy Walker.
He was fantastic. Such a terrific actor. All of them. brilliant casting.
No wonder that Ida/Nancy Walker got her start singing on Broadway. Love her !
Icon.
I love the song "What are you doing the rest of your life?" How I wished I had a song like that sung to me.
I LOVE that song. I knew the tune. Had NO IDEA the words. Thank you. (Course I rolled it back to the part to see) Now I can look it up and learn the words.
Frank Sinatra does this song beautifully.
Solid gold. The most moving episode in the series!
Harold Gould should have been more of a regular character on the show. He was a very good actor!!

Aw so lovely . . . They don’t make um like that anymore ❤️
Also loved Gould in Golden Girls!! MILES
AND, in The Sting
They don't make them like Ida Morgenstern anymore. This episode was very endearing. Harold Gould and Nancy Walker were the perfect parents for Rhoda and Brenda.
If Ida was so “perfect” why were her daughters so insecure and neurotic? Personally I couldn’t stand story lines involving Ida.
One of my favorite episodes!

Amazing episode I cried so beautiful much love❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wittiest joke ever in Rhoda??......"I used to sing that one when I nursed you." 😆
That was Beautiful!!!’ ❤🎉🦋🎼🎹
Brenda always had the best lines!!
Under the previous episode, I commented I cried the first time on this show. Well... that makes two now.
bahahaha IDA KILLED ME!! 😂😂😂😂
Even all these years later I still wish Ida had a different hairstyle.

Nancy Walker was great on Rhonda she was great on McMillan and wife. Playing there maid. She was great in the movies also.

I never heard Martin sing. I saw him acting on the golden girls as Rose's beau, so this is a first.
I change my vote. This episode was awesome. It had everything
I love Harry and Nancy great people
We love this show.13.75❤
That was such a sweet episode , Rhoda's parents are cute couple !
I always thought Martin and Barney Miller were handsome men.
Very Sweet

its on METV network and HULU!!
GREAT SHOW
I'm watching season 2 of Rhoda on TH-cam because Hulu only has season 1

Rhoda's makeup looks really harsh here. Those red stripes on the sides of her face. I remember when makeup was like that...
Nice
HAROLD GOULD had a good singing voice

ok ! thanks
Wow! Martin Morgenstern was a great piano player...n
Joe's parents should have also been
invited.
Didn't Joe have any siblings?
