Weird...He says WW Barb is a lot of fun...I was on a website yesterday reading up on the Assassin and whoever wrote the piece said "the Assassing, along with the Barbarian, is the least played class in D2". Really? Ever since I started playing D2 in the early 00's I have always been drawn to the Barb. I always thought the Barb was one of THE classic characters in D2. Whoever wrote that obviously doesn't like the Barb and they interjected their personal preferences as objective truth.
The problem with raven frost on a WW barb is that it has cold damage on it, and WW barbs tend to be used mostly for farming trav. And if you freeze enemies and they die while frozen you can't hork their body anymore. Best to not have any cold damage on your WW barb.
I have fond memories of being 13 years old doing cow runs with my ww barb in d2 classic using my bramble barb, and bramble scythe execution swords. Good times.
I had never played a game on the internet before.. My friends invited me in grade 5 to their house where they had multiple computers (which i thought was insane lol) and they had diablo 2 lord of destruction. They told me to pick a character and I chose the barbarian (whirlwind) who I named Leandermith. It became not only my first every online character on ANY game but my introduction into online gaming and rpgs in general online. I used the same name all through world of warcraft and every other game I ever played. I will always have a soft spot for the WW barb and I just rolled another one on D2R for the stalgia!
When you go to fastest leveling guide it takes you to sing barb, since it's faster than the other leveling builds. Use it until you get the gear for ww.
tal rasha helmet, smoke runeword and insight runeword, gave me biggest boost in dmg and other stats at beggining of hell difficulty also i use axe barb with rare double upgraded giant axe +to barb skills and mana leach (life leach would be great also)
ias on eq is pointless since ww does only use your weapons ias - at least thats what ive read anywhere , so you want to hit 30% more ias with the two sockets to get the fastest breakpoint, either 2 x shael or jewels
Ok ... now ... How you can make WW guide without mentioning attack frames. And the fact, that ias usefull only on weapon. For fastest attack you need -34 for one hander and -60 for two hander. The difference is huge as fastest speed is 6 attacks per second and speed before is just 4 attacks per second. Might merc with Reapers toll is absolute best for the build, nothing can even compare to that. Best 2 one-handers are two berserker axe griefs with at least 34ias (as base speed of BA is 0) For armor you go Fortitude for sure (or enigma lol) For IK set, you have to socket 2 shaels into maul (or 15ias jewells, but good jewell is worth more than whole set). Iirc, on-weapon IAS (from Shael Rune or Jewel of Fervor) helps the IK maul hit a better Whirlwind breakpoint. If I'm not mistaken, after reviewing the IAS charts, factoring in the 40 on-weapon IAS that's already there, 30 more will bring you to 4-frame hit-checks instead of 6-frame hit-checks.

Found a lightsaber and a stormrider axe, will those be sufficient until grief? Also, the resistance skill..does that not help enough to not dump extra points in? Provided gear doesn't cover it
definitely max mace mastery if you're using full IK and save a respec for when you get grief. You might as well go for the highest dmg you can at any given point since barb really relies on that extra dmg
How would you play the ww barb mechanically in d2r? I made a ww barb but i have been finding that ww suddenly stops in the middle of combat randomly in d2r which never happened in d2lod. I play with ww as my right mouse button and hold it down to ww constantly but like i mentioned earlier it keeps interupting and stopping randomly in combat
hold alt and avoid mousing over enemies i think, works for me most of the time. i have it on left button and switch between strikes there. have a teleport amulet so i change between shouts, leap and teleport on right button
Does having an axe off hand with sword mastery have any negative effects? I also notice when I have grief phase blade in main hand it still shows me swinging my botd axe 🤣
I've got 2 swords with +3 whirlwind im thinking would be fun for a ww barb....some unique Gladius ive somehow found several of so far on other chars. Lol. Yah those! Bloodletters! I wonder if I up those if they'll carry me through hell... they already have nuts stats, and +4 sword skill with +3ww is...a lot especially dual weilded.
Good ol IK Barb my favorite goto, I would take some points from Shout and max out Concentrate and mix WW 👌 or redirect all points from Shout and into Berserk for those xtra pesky PI
phase blade dont have durability so they cant be broken cuz grief cost a shiit load of money to repair but honestly i prefer using 2x grief phase blade or 2xebotdZ
well with my mf sorc i found all ik set except of the armor ,and by chance i had angelic ring and amu combo and2 bloodletter right now, i buyed the armor for a gul and was happy that i did everything right when i saw the video
That's a tough call. I'd personally say mid-late 40's. Whirlwind is terrible until you have a lot of points invested into it and the gear to support it. I haven't run a WW barb in over a decade tho, so take my advice with a grain of salt.
You can start at lvl 30 if you have dual bloodletters, otherwise mid 40s. I am saying this because I just got my whirlwind barb into the mid 40s and WW only just started to become a useful skill.
All barbarian shout buffs work simultaneously, so you should use Battle Command first to increase the level of your other shouts, then use Shout and Battle Orders.
@@codycigar6542 ah you want to know in which sword type the runeword should be built? In that case i misunderstood you. For grief you should use a phase blade, because you have max attack frames and its indestructuble, which prevents you from repairing every few minutes. Thats why oath or botd (both made in ethereal bases) or second grief are the best off hands as well. For botd you should use colossus blades both 1h and 2h. Hope i got you right now. Hello my friend, love most of your videos. Do you have any video with gear progression for the builds? I am struggling a little with my hammerdin because I got to level 70 doing nm ball runs since D2R released and now I am trying to start hell and I can't survive even the act 1 mobs. I have Nadir, Spirit sword and Spirit Shield and Stealth armor. The rest is all rare or green equips that dropped during my journey to this point. All guides I find only show the end game gear, which is impossible to farm in hell right now for obvious reasons. So what I'd like to know is what is available and where to farm in normal before going to nightmare and same from nightmare to hell. I don't know if you already have those for the builds, but it would be a great help for all the newbies all there like me. Hope you read my comment and answer me, I am anxious to play in hell so I will try to farm some stuff in The pit, Andariel and Mephisto nightmare to see if I can find something useful there. Thanks a lot
Get a few points into Holy Shield and put points into Dexterity to max out your shield block chance. Then, check the vendors for items with high resistances to cap out all your resistances, or get as close to 75 as possible. Also items with high life will help you out. That should make you tanky enough to survive a few hits. As a caster, you should still try to spin the hammers and move out of the way of enemy attacks until you're well geared. Hope this helps!
Drop stealth and get Smoke instead for the resistances. Without good resistance you just won’t last in hell. Also get rid of Nadir and get Lore instead for better damage and some extra light res (light and fire are the worst killers in hell). All other gear just make sure it has some resistance, faster cast, faster hit recovery, etc. make sure rings have either good all resistance and/or faster cast, and ammy should have all resistance and faster cast or plus to skills
yeah honestly sounds like you just need to do some farming for better gear. hopefully by now, 5 months later, you dont have these problems anymore. if you do, mephisto in nightmare can drop some really great gear to get you to a point where you can at least start farming in hell for the best gear. there are many good guides on farming spots, llama has one of the better ones, but there are others too.
I'm literally at Baal in Hell with my very 1st Hammerdin. I've been using Skin of the Vipermagi for my armor almost the entire time because I lack the correct runes for Enigma (Jah and Ber). SotV gives you + to all resistances, +1 to all skills and 30% FCR. It's probably better suited for Normal and NM, but I've made it this far using it...Also, I literally just found a Herald of Zakarum shield yesterday, so I've started using that instead of Spirit. But I am still using a Spirit sword. My resistances are all still really low...Fire, cold and poison are all 18 and lightning is 33.
Just started playing LOD with D2R. I always played classic. Man was it a pain in the ass to play to level 30 with no useful attack skills because you didn’t have respecs so you couldn’t waste points.
i just hit level 35 and i run out of mana instantly, the whirlwind itself is herky-jerky, doesn't just go everywhere i want. what am i doing wrong? also, i just started nightmare mastery but i only have one respec, should i do maces for IK? aren't swords better later? im really confused, it kinda sucks at 35 i feel like
Humm… am I the only one that used a two handed weapon socket with six perfect skulls for a 24% life leech and 18% mana steal? I never ran out of mana and WW was my standard attack from level 35. Farming the cow level was a breeze.
@@rellyrue18 it's not just a thought: I had that character and he was very efficient in single player. I maxed out hammer mastery and whirlwind around level 50, and it was about that time I finished the game in Hell mode.I used a Marter de Fer with 6 sockets, if not mistaken. I remember act V being more challenging, but I manage to beat it without much trouble with my level 65 sorceress. I put most of my points into Bash and sword skill, a few in concentrate and none in any of the battle cry's. I'm probably going to reset my points and try something else. Found a lightsaber and a stormrider axe, will those be sufficient until grief? Also, the resistance skill..does that not help enough to not dump extra points in? Provided gear doesn't cover it
There okay weapons you can get through the game with almost any items lol anything is gonna be just okay until you get the final build weapons.
With + skills late game you should be max but if you have unfortunate luck and have literally no resistance then yeah it’s okay.
if you have to settle for the immortal king stone crusher do ya pump the weapon mastery points for it as well or hold off until you can get a grief?
definitely max mace mastery if you're using full IK and save a respec for when you get grief. You might as well go for the highest dmg you can at any given point since barb really relies on that extra dmg
I want to use tal set for barb is That possible pleze lmk
How would you play the ww barb mechanically in d2r? I made a ww barb but i have been finding that ww suddenly stops in the middle of combat randomly in d2r which never happened in d2lod. I play with ww as my right mouse button and hold it down to ww constantly but like i mentioned earlier it keeps interupting and stopping randomly in combat
hold alt and avoid mousing over enemies i think, works for me most of the time.
i have it on left button and switch between strikes there.
have a teleport amulet so i change between shouts, leap and teleport on right button
Use a controller and enjoy noob-assist
with left over points i always pumped either natural res or iron skin
natural res is the best use for it, when you can go well beyond reduction limits everywhere you're super tanky
Tried doing IK Set barb for Ubert trist, couldn't even kill andy.
Does having an axe off hand with sword mastery have any negative effects? I also notice when I have grief phase blade in main hand it still shows me swinging my botd axe 🤣
thats what im wondering also
So many ppl sleep on Oath. Even endgame Grief+Oath works really well.
Even dual oath is more then enough for good killspeed
I've got 2 swords with +3 whirlwind im thinking would be fun for a ww barb....some unique Gladius ive somehow found several of so far on other chars. Lol. Yah those! Bloodletters! I wonder if I up those if they'll carry me through hell... they already have nuts stats, and +4 sword skill with +3ww is...a lot especially dual weilded.
What do you socket IK helm and IK maul with usually?
Maul with IAS, helm + chest with ED
Good ol IK Barb my favorite goto, I would take some points from Shout and max out Concentrate and mix WW 👌 or redirect all points from Shout and into Berserk for those xtra pesky PI
Shout is a synergy for Berserk; even with just one point in Berserk but with Shout maxed, you'll still kill Physical Immunes in 1-4 swings.
Is stormshield a good choice? Will it lost a ton of damage?
dont use a shield for ww barbs, you want to maximise dmg. you can hit max resistance without a shield easily
If i Use ebotdzerk so I should make grief Zerk also? Idk everybody make grief in Phase blade.
phase blade dont have durability so they cant be broken cuz grief cost a shiit load of money to repair but honestly i prefer using 2x grief phase blade or 2xebotdZ
If you use a Holy Freeze merc, I recommend a Last Wish.
well with my mf sorc i found all ik set except of the armor ,and by chance i had angelic ring and amu combo and2 bloodletter right now, i buyed the armor for a gul and was happy that i did everything right when i saw the video
What about just using a single coloss blade/sword with grief instead of 2 phaseblade grief?
phase blade doesn't need to be repaired
Also, Grief doesn't have ED% so having it in a high base damage weapon barely matters.
does anybody know what a full IK Set is worth atm in D2R? Just cant seem to get any pieces for it :(
the only item thats "rare" in the set is the chest so you can get the other ones quite cheap in trades
id say full set maybe is worth ist or gul maybe not sure
Hey man loved the video it was really helpful, Im new to the game and was wondering what level i should re spec into ww?
That's a tough call. I'd personally say mid-late 40's. Whirlwind is terrible until you have a lot of points invested into it and the gear to support it. I haven't run a WW barb in over a decade tho, so take my advice with a grain of salt.
You can start at lvl 30 if you have dual bloodletters, otherwise mid 40s. I am saying this because I just got my whirlwind barb into the mid 40s and WW only just started to become a useful skill.
Main hand I prefer botd cb with grief on other seems to work better in pvp
How about botd on eth warpike?
Can you use shout and battle commands and have both buffs active? Or only one at any point in time?
All barbarian shout buffs work simultaneously, so you should use Battle Command first to increase the level of your other shouts, then use Shout and Battle Orders.
How do you reset stats?
Do the first quest and clear out den of evil, then Akara will let you respec once. But it only works once per difficulty
Playing this now with full ik set.
Can anybody tell me which sword is best for a WW build? I know Grief added is the best to go, but what sword is best to combine with Grief?
Eth botd zerker.
Dual grief xD or just oath
@@randiflagg6954 how does this work man? Just use any sword and add the word or what?
@@codycigar6542 ah you want to know in which sword type the runeword should be built? In that case i misunderstood you.
For grief you should use a phase blade, because you have max attack frames and its indestructuble, which prevents you from repairing every few minutes. Thats why oath or botd (both made in ethereal bases) or second grief are the best off hands as well.
For botd you should use colossus blades both 1h and 2h.
Hope i got you right now.
If you wanted to know how to make a rune word in general, llama should have a guide for that
@@randiflagg6954 Ah I see! Thanks man! So do stats really matter (like damage and such) with a sword? I'm only level 24 right now so i doubt I'll get a phase blade soon lol. Really appreciate the response man it helped a lot. So you can get ethereal phase blades? That seems slightly OP lol.
I've got one Lo rune to spend. What is the more important gear piece in this build - grief or fort?
grief, it's harder to get a good weapon than to get a decent armor
@@anhey2943 Kind of the direction I was leaning - Thanks!
Llama are you fan of Argentina?
@MrLlamaSC
Can we do a WHIRLWIND BARBARIAN Hardcore guide?
Does IAS benefit Whirlwind?
Only ias on wpns work for ww
How about a video on the mechanics of WW? like what is the significance of the second weapon? or main weapon? i noticed my second hand weapon doesnt show up on the advanced character stats window. does first hand really only matter? and put a MF on the second hand? ETC
Do the stats on your secondary weapons actually contribute to your character when not currently in his hands?
nope, but you can cast buffs with them then switch back to your main hands.
Icy veins link takes you to singer barb....gotta proper link for ww
Linda casaca MrLlama! Aguante Argentina
Just started playing LOD with D2R. I always played classic. Man was it a pain in the ass to play to level 30 with no useful attack skills because you didn’t have respecs so you couldn’t waste points.
i just hit level 35 and i run out of mana instantly, the whirlwind itself is herky-jerky, doesn't just go everywhere i want. what am i doing wrong? also, i just started nightmare mastery but i only have one respec, should i do maces for IK? aren't swords better later? im really confused, it kinda sucks at 35 i feel like
Get an act 2 Merc with insight man.
Humm… am I the only one that used a two handed weapon socket with six perfect skulls for a 24% life leech and 18% mana steal? I never ran out of mana and WW was my standard attack from level 35. Farming the cow level was a breeze.
I was thinking this. Ty. I have an extra 5 socket 1 hander
It would need to have astronomically good base damage I.e. ethereal or just plain badass. I dont see you killing much in hell tbr. Nice thought tho
@@rellyrue18 it's not just a thought: I had that character and he was very efficient in single player. I maxed out hammer mastery and whirlwind around level 50, and it was about that time I finished the game in Hell mode.I used a Marter de Fer with 6 sockets, if not mistaken. If my memory is correct, you usually beat Normal around level 25, nightmare at level 40 and Hell at level 50. I Finished the game with all characters except amazon. I kept playing a little longer with Barbarian and Sorecress up until level 65, but got bored with the repetition and grinding required to level up on later levels (I didn't know at the time that you could simulate a 8 players difficulty in a solo game to increase XP).
'm talking about vanilla Diablo II, of course. I'm getting the impression that most people talking about how hard it is to beat Diablo in hell must be referring to the expansion LoD. When Lord of Destruction came out, I had moved to other games and finished the expansion once just to see the ending. I remember act V being more challenging, but I manage to beat it without much trouble with my level 65 sorceress.
I'm not a great player nor did farmed for specific rare/unique itens, I just planned a lot ahead of time and followed guides form game FAQs.At what level do you usually beat LoD in Hell difficulty?
Mr Llama...are you Argentinean? My wife from Argentina would like to know. :-)
I'm a noob and started as a barbarian with my first play through. Got to act IV and decided I would try to "upgrade" the dozen or so Runes I had collected. I thought putting three of the same Rune in the cube would just upgrade it. Big mistake. My character is currently level 27 and I'm getting destroyed. I put most of my points into Bash and sword skill, a few in concentrate and none in any of the battle cry's. I'm probably going to reset my points and try something else. Any tips would be appreciated.
My best advice is to play paladin at least for now. Because u need good items to be able to play in higher difficulty.
