How do you deal with such a case in which everyone (colleagues) goes above and beyond their boundaries to get the job done, to be in the good books of the management? If I am strict about my work life balance in such a place, I would be the odd one out right?!

Earlier I used to be 24x7 available and one fine day my boss said I am not performing well.
That made me realise I should not invest any more time in this org. My boss opened my eyes

Another thing is to do is to set realistic expectations. If it takes 3 hours for you to get something done at full effort, quote 3.5 hours. Also learn to become savvy and automate repetitive tasks but dont disclose that you have done so.
If one is overeager and works at 100 percent capacity, that will be taken as your regular output. Keeping up an unsustainable pace leads to burnout.
Also having the capacity to push more in critical situations makes a better impression rather than going 100 percent all the time.

Govt should make strict laws punishing the employers or bosses who call message or email the employees after working hours.

Unfortunately most of the points mentioned are valid but just doesn’t work in consulting domain. Not generalising but most of the consulting firms don’t even promote this work life balance

True but it's our life which needs to have work-life balance so our company will not bother much, we need to take the lead 😊

So consulting firms such as Big 4 or MBB charge a lot to their clients coz they hire mostly from decent institutions and pay their resources well and these firms typically give that impression to their customers about the availability of such resources. It will take some time to change for sure

Sitting late should be an exception rather than a rule. If you are made to sit late then adequate compensation must be paid [no wanted to use the word 'pay'] and proper audit of the reasons for such compensation must be made by the management and managers must be made accountable and answerable. The best part of the video is that you started with expecting sincerity and punctuality on the part of the employees before demanding what is righful. Toxic work culture must be quelled. One more thing, calling and emailing post work-hours should also be monitored and avoided as far as possible, unless, of course, the nature of the job requires so and employee well knows this before joining the job and the same is mentioned in his contract along with commensurate compensation.

These are my personal experiences and taughts may not applicable to all
    1) I found European clients and their work culture is really good in terms of work life balance and they also respect your time if we are working in their team . Because they think everyone should have proper work life balance , family time etc to have a good productivity. And this works very effectively in accomplishing good productivity for me and of course everyone in our team 😊
    2) Indian management and their mindset’s should change a lot on this perspective and incorporate the better approach for employees well being . This should be implemented in all companies in spite of their designations and other factors

    • @makrandtambe6030
      @makrandtambe6030 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Totally agree. When we work with UK based client then work life balance is maintained to some extent but when it comes to US based one, Indian counterpart is mostly never considered and Indian team is forced to work late or attend late night calls

    • @nayamsharjeelrafique369
      @nayamsharjeelrafique369 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@makrandtambe6030 Could not agree more with you. US based managers and clients simply dont consider IST as an actual timezone, as if it doesn't exist at all! What's worse is a lot of Indian employees put up with their unreasonable timings just so that they can make a "good impression" on them.

This is a topic for matured audiences. At the same time hard hitting as this is questioning the current mindset of the IT Service companies in India. The suggested ways just cannot be followed if someone has sacrificed his/her soul to the boss to get the coveted promotion/onsite role/ localisation which is true in 90 percent of the senior associates. The good news is the young and less experienced associates are not falling for this trap and they can maintain this balance. The key is to first deserve and then to dictate the terms.

Let me give a example ,
When i am in previous org , they called always late night meeting and late night works
one day i decided to give up and my Tourchering manager called and he asking me to meet at night 9'o clock
i directly said that it's not possible at that time , then he said ok let's meet 8 then , i told no
then he asked me why , i clearly said it's my family time please will have a meeting tomorrow at office time and he said ok
Later after 10 days i got a call from HR and said you manager asked to resign can you look for another job and we will help you on your job search
moral of the story is people have guts to speck but it won't workout in corporate wold
    Please keep this in mind

If you are a critical resource and you can't be replaced in the near future then you can try these points. Else, I advise you to compromise on the above situations and follow the instructions, otherwise, your reporting manager will move/throw you out of the cost centre to the bench.
The IT field is a temporary job, based on demand and supply. Always try to be a billable resource and learn a skill that is more critical to the organisation.

Many people will say its not possible and blah blah things, but remember this is something which takes time and a bit of courage to speak up and take a lead. Also, its individual choice whether or not to speak up and set boundaries between personal and professional life/time. But if we practice this and are able to set our work timings in the long run our lives will be easier.

I worked in a startup which was a lending company.
Have been working in this company for 5 yrs.
Generally working hours are 10 to 7 pm
As it’s month end working hours are extended which is understandable but at 9.30 pm it’s normal that we feel hungry so I have informed my manager that I am feeling very hungry I will go home and clear pending work. My manager said nothing doing complete your work and then leave. I told him I am too hungry I am leaving and I went back home had dinner and completed pending work.
My manager told this was insulting to him and informed Hr team to fire me. He took as an insult and fired me.
I was informed that I had ego

Thanks a lot for this video. However, unfortunately there has always been a bureaucratic mindset especially with respect to the Indian companies which hypothesises that they do not allow people to voice out their opinion or suggestion. Be it changing meeting schedules or managing tasks or anything for that matter. Hard reality though !

What to do if colleagues dump work on us. They don’t do and during deadline goes to boss asking help from other resource to ruin their weekend. It happens often and bosses are blind to such situations and manipulation

For many people this easier said than done, especially if this comes from their boss few months before appraisal.
It needs courage to implement this without bothering about appraisal in future, since this does not pamper the bosses ego. I have implemented it and paid the price, but still went ahead on this multiple times. How many people will draw the line like few of us ?

I have just started my job, it is about 1 year now. My shift starts from 12 noon and ends at 9.30 pm but I work till 11pm usually because of work load and calls with US clients. I am guilty of extending my log off time but find it difficult to log off on time mainly because of US client calls scheduled at 10 or 11.

My US-based project manager would schedule daily routine meetings at 9:30 pm and ours was not even a shift-based project. It was general shift. So i politely requested the proj manager to advance the meeting to earlier in the evening. He not only turned down my request saying it would "not be feasible for other timezones" but also escalated this to my Indian reporting manager. The reporting manager called me later and gave me gyaan about being "flexible" and "dedicated". Indian labour laws are a joke!

Does this applies even for newbies? I have one yr experience and I questioned in a meeting that i can't do work out of my shift hours and why you are assigning things which we are not able to complete during working hours in front of HR manager and my manager. Its all ended there.
I was roasted like peanuts in front of all others in the meeting stating that my manager works even on sundays and asking me to do overwork since I'm in beginning of my career.😢
I'm not even getting 10% of his salary, but I was expected to do overwork.
Reality is hitting hard. Im really scared that i spoke very frankly that every other employees in the meeting had also had same in their mind and now im worrying about my hike.😢
