- This is a song preview of "Katyusha" from Abney Park's new album, The Circus At The End Of The World, now on sale.
This song has haunted me for years. Its a very famous well love Russian folk song, and its melody just wormed in to head. One day were where touring through Liepzig, Germany, and in fact we were standing in the shadow of Bach's cathedral, when this weathered old man walked by playing it on his accordion. I said to the band, "man, I would love to cover that song, and put thats guys playing as the intro to it!" But he walked past, and that was that.
Later that night, I turn another cobblestone corner, and there was the old accordion master again! So I hit record on my iPhone, and walked up to him and requested that song. He didn't speak english, I didn't speak German, but we both spoke music.
This album has 13 songs, and they are all amazing!
Get it at www.abneypark.com, or any were else!
Katyusha just keeps coming back to me...

I'm on my 14th replay in one sitting.
Come once more, once more I say.
As Russian, I adore this translation. Really. TOO COOL TO BE TRUE
NiShiro's comment was not made in English Russian, commencing translation: As Ruski, I find translation to be good. Is too good to be real.
I’m 45%Russian
@@denki7986 good for you. Be proud of your ancestors. They went through hell to get us all here.
Вы, ребята, охренительны.
You guys are bloody awesome.
I literally just made a youtube account just to tell you that.
lol nice
So... you met an old dude and that inspired you to cover this song?
Man.. the Captain sure is awesome. o.o
wonderful story with this old guy... a small dark path and an old man can give more inspiration as the whole wide world it seems. Love it. Greetings from Leipzig.
[Verse 1]
Apple trees and pear trees were aflower
River mist was rising all around
Young Katyusha went strolling by the hour
On the steep banks
O'er the rocky ground
[Verse 2]
Oh, my song, my song of a maiden's true love
To my dear one travel with the sun
To the one with whom Katusha knew love
Bring my greetings to him, to him one by one
[Verse 3]
By the riverbank she sang a love song
Of her hero in a distant land
Of the one she'd dearly loved for so long
Holding tight his letters in her hand
[Verse 4]
Let him know that I am true and faithful
Let him hear that love song that I send
Tell him as he defends our home that
True Katyusha our love will defend
this goes so hard oml pls put on spotify:D
The song was composed in 1938 but even now, the melody attracts all people irrespective of nation.
Special thanks for the performance of the song "Katyusha", I hope modern youth will like it! This is an eternal song, with a huge value for the whole World! Thank you very much!
I like it
As modern youth (age 15), I can say this is my favorite song ever and I have memorized it in English and Russian, even though I don’t know any Russian.
I'm from Russia and i really adore this cover. Abney Park and russian folk combined in one great song.
Amazing, this is one of the very few songs that can bring tears to my eyes, and you did wonderful in your rendition.
Vodka aside, this is awesome! Hearing russian song from Abney park, just warms my heart. Btw, guys, "Smuglyanka" from you, would be aweeesome!

Oh here we go. It looks like this album would be getting better towards the end. Marvelous.
I think this is my favorite song on the whole album. A beautiful haunting folk song.
My favourite band covering one of my favourite folk songs - perfect!
This is the best cover of this amazing song ive heard in a while
Amazing! Great job Abney Park.
The female chorus is very haunting, as is the entire song. Freakin awesome
Hey guys! Is it true you'll have a gig in Moscow in this April? I'm so excited and can't wait to see you all!
You managed to actually make a good cover for song, I wouldn't consider "coverable" at all. You have my respect)
This now in my top five Abney Park list
Yeah!! Russian steampunk power!! I'm russian and love this beautiful song and your adaptation too
I have a mild obsession with this song, in the original Russian, but this is an awesome version.
First Abney Park song this neophyte Steampunk heard 8 years ago... Never looked back.
A little correction: the Katyusha is not a folk song. It was composed in 1938 by Matvey Blatter (music) and Michail Isakovsky (lyrics).
Very good song
how wonderful another album for my collection.
simply adore it. abney park you are great
супер. it got my approval, I like when the world sings our songs, plus with a little different mix to it, it good.
Приятно слышать Советскую классику в таком исполнении, я рад!!!)))

Brilliant version of a great tune -
This album is definitely great, but this one song... I can't stop listening to it. This is my favourite cover of this song.
I heartily agree with you there, vlad. This song is amazing and it sounds like this band could easily do justice to other russian songs.
It's beautiful. I'm so glad that you like our music.
You made me proud of our songs even more! ^ _ ^
Awesome! We've been playing this song for years. First heard it at a dulcimer festival in Michigan.
Christopher Netter safe to assume Frankenmuth

Is it possible for you to put this album on Spotify
Simply amazing. I love it. :)
Yeaah! Thanks for your songs! They are amazing!Thank you!And Welcome to Russia!!
Nice cover! Do you know there are plenty of russian WWII soldier-songs for chordeon and harmonica? You totally should find and listen some of that, like "Вставай, страна огромная", "Тёмная ночь", и "Песня из к/ф Офицеры"
Они только "Катюшу" любят (иностранцы).
Omg they should totally do that!!
Is this not on Spotify? I can't seem to find it.
Nope
Apparently it's only on deezer
amazing story!
regards from germany!
I'm just wondering if this album is going to be on Spotify in Canada
Me too
Wonderful!
I read your story below the video about your experience about the way u feel about this song (such a nice description) and the "coincidence" (I know u didn't use that word but it is what you described) (and the reason I put the word "coincidence" in quotation marks is because far too many people chalk up instances such as yours as "just a coincidence" and simply let it go and ignore it from there sadly). What you had happen with the old man the way it did, in my opinion, was more than just what some would call a coincidence. I was just reading a book in the spirituality field last night (The Celestine Vision by James Redfield) and, in it, he describes certain things happening in the almost EXACT same way you described your encounter with the way you feel about this song and your encounters with the old man. In the book, the author calls it "syncronicity" and the importance of noticing it in our daily lives and that if we act on it, we will notice it happening more and more and gives a feeling of a kind of connection and a sense of euphoria. Ok. I'm sorry, I'm not trying to sound like a nut. All i'm saying is, without realizing it at the time, u experienced sycronicity and acted upon it and left yourself more open to these kinds of "guided" experiences by doing so. I find these kinds of instances very spiritually rewarding an, ultimately, wonderful.
This is amazing i love this album already.
one of the greatest songs ever , comment from algeriaaaaaa
Hands down best song of the album!
one of my favorites from the latest album. cant wait to hear it live on the Queen Mary
really really great
Very slick ! Music interpretation, transitions voices... Everything nearly
Perfect ( of course have some room
For improvement)
But ... Bravo in the end !
This is the one that I got me interested in Abney Park.
This is amazing
Very beatihull.
Im in love
I'd like to see that original iphone recording.
this song makes me shiver (in a positive way)^^
That is possibly the best idea ever
Ear worm of the first water, I'll be humming this for days
LOVE IT!!
Fucking English version. And I was so excited when I heard the beginning. Good music, but I was really hoping it would be in Russian.
***** I am glad this is an english version that sound so beautiful. Abney Park did it really well. Watch Abney Park's concert in Moscow, russian audience was very happy with it.
+sensitivebeat I mean, it is a Russian song. It does sound the best in that language. Kind of like listening to "Yankee Doodle" in Russian would probably sound a bit off. Just my opinion, but still.
+Ben Ahlert dont like - leave
+Ben Ahlert I would love to hear Yankee Doodle in Russian! :D
It is a Russian song, but there are dozens, if not hundreds, of Russian versions. I've also seen Chinese and Spanish versions of the song, and the lyrics in this version are actually pretty faithful to the original Russian.
You should try to order directly from the Abney Park Market ;)
hey does Abney Park' sell their music in 24bit 192khz or 24bit 96khz. if so i would buy all of their music in that format.
Это прекрасно! = It's gorgeous!
Супер

Katyusha attack, when all the ground opens up! Run for cover!
ostheer ftw!
You can still sing a song "on the border of the cloud walk gloomily"
на границе тучи ходят хмуро
Hnnnnnng, dat accordion~
God this sounds so good on my bose speakers
I want them to do a steam punk cover of this song
Major-General The Pirates of Penzance
For some reason this reminds me of that Rasputin song.
dance4ever2378 Rasputin be Boney M.? That would make sense as that song would be based off and writ in a similar style to a Russian Folk song, to match the theme and expand their audience.
yep is this time im going to learn russian
Lets get you started. (Russian translation of what you said: Yes. Is time to learn Russian.)
Certainly just do it! Russian language is great!
молодец
playing world of tank to this ups my game.
...as my feet dance me away... ;-)
Now sing it in russian abney park!
:D
the tetris' song is korobelniki, not katyusha .___.
The melody isn't quite right, but it's close enough :D
Shut up and listen :D
