My history-obsessed 14-year-old absolutely loves Sabaton. We rocked them on a boys' trip this weekend, and even as a near 50-year-old father of three, I cannot get The Last Stand out of my head. I can easily imagine a choir behind them in concert for this. I've rarely been so moved by a song, from any genre. People who think metal has no artistic value have clearly never listened to Sabaton. I don't know how many middle-aged fans the band has, but they can count at least one more. Bravo, gentlemen.
I think it's also because they keep the metal vibe, but combine it with music basics like verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus and actually having some progression.

Sabaton: ''Ok, ok, so you know the most boring part of a war, the armastice and peace deal, right?'' ''What if we made the most intense song of the album about that?'' *The end of the war to end all wars happens, and it's fucking amazing*
@@paulnittler9248 it is more about their bravery and unflinching commitment to do their duty even if they know that they are likely to die while doing it.
Ok I did some research on "The Stand of the Swiss Guard" as its called. It is true that they swear in new recruits on that day, May 6, to honor those who died. However, you dont get people excited about joining your group by telling them all about the ultimate sacrifice they might have to make. You dont shy from it, but dont lead the conversation with "you might die like these guys did". However, this song is inspiring, emotional and a good tribute to the brave men who gave their last to protect that which they held most important.
It has a good melody and amazing harmony, most heavy metal is still pretty ass from my experience. Just some bands actually understand you still need melody and harmony in your heavy metal.
I am 15 years old and I've always been a history nerd but this band has single-handedly made me want to become a full WW1 buff and I can't thank them enough ❤
I doubt you'll ever see this Sabaton, but as a Christian history buff, this song single handedly inspired my physical fitness journey. Anytime I do running I'll always say the the second bridge to myself, "Dying for salvation, with dedication". It helps me run a little farther. Thank you for inspiring me.
It may sound ridiculous but I discovered this song when I broke up with my gf and it helped me a lot, made me smile everytime I listened to it. Thanks Sabaton.

Since Charles V, ruler of the holy roman empire couldn’t pay his troops they mutinied and forced their commander to lead them towards Rome where plunder was plentiful. When the invading force entered the vatican pope Clement VII escaped to Castel Sant’Angelo via passetto di Borgo. The few remaining guardsmen gave their lives on the steps to St. Peters Basilica.
Fun fact, the german soldiers were called "Lanzichenecchi", from the italian word "Lancia", which means spear, because of the very long spear they carried. Those soldiers werent imperial soldiers, but mercenaries, and thats why they mutinied. On the other hand, even the Swiss Guard was made out of swiss mercenaries, but instead of surrending while being outnumbered, they decided to gave their life for the Pope.
This was the song that first introduced me to the epicness that is SABATON. As a Christian and an ex soldier, I couldn’t think of a better way to go out.

In the heart of Holy See
In the home of Christianity
The Seat of power is in danger
There´s a foe of a thousand swords
They´ve been abandoned by their lords
Their fall from grace will pave their path, to damnation
Then the 189
In the service of heaven
They’re protecting the holy line
It was 1527, gave their lives on the steps to heaven
Thy will be done!
For the grace, for the might of our lord
For the home of the holy
For the faith, for the way of the sword
Gave their lives so boldly
For the grace, for the might of our lord
In the name of his glory
For the faith, for the way of the sword
Come and tell their story again
Under guard of 42
Along a secret avenue
Castel Saint’Angelo is waiting
They’re the guard of the Holy See
They’re the guards of Christianity
Their path to history is paved with salvation
Then the 189
In the service of heaven
They’re protecting the holy line
It was 1527, gave their lives on the steps to heaven
Thy will be done!
For the grace, for the might of our lord
For the home of the holy

Come and tell their story

Come and tell the Swiss guards story again
*Historic fact of the song*
The story of the 189 brave soldiers in the Swiss guard during the sacking of Rome in 1527.
If you just click read more in the description...
wew, you just got trolled epic style@@midknightranger71
Fun fact, the german soldiers were called "Lanzichenecchi", from the italian word "Lancia", which means spear, because of the very long spear they carried. Those soldiers werent imperial soldiers, but mercenaries, and thats why they mutinied. On the other hand, even the Swiss Guard was made out of swiss mercenaries, but instead of surrending while being outnumbered, they decided to gave their life for the Pope.
In the name of God. Some capitalization errors in those lyrics.
This was the song that first introduced me to the epicness that is SABATON. As a Christian and an ex soldier, I couldn’t think of a better way to go out.
