    My late father had a 1963, "66 and "69. All where hard tops. In 1971 he switched to the Mark series and then the Town Car later in life. Up until the 1998 Town Car, Lincoln made Absolutely beautiful automobiles. I don't know what happened? Thank you for this great post!

      Thank you! We really lucked out with this one, a local collector happened to have the 62 and made it possible. The door handles were the coolest throwback, and if you get the special 2019 Continental Coach Door Edition you'd have the handles next to each other with the suicide doors just like the 1962!

    Absolutely convincing,the 2019 Continental.
    I particularly like the dashboard ,the overall arrangement of the interior,it look s so solid and genuine with the wooden trimmings,a real option to BMW and Mercedes, if you lower your sights in terms of the quality of the ride.
    So if you are not a speed merchant, why not?
    And it s a very shapely car.
    Again a first class review,I really enjoyed it.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I definitely agree with what you said about lowering your standards, it's certainly not on par with an E-Class or 5 Series in terms of ride or comfort, but it gets a lot of things right. I think most people, all 7 of them, are going to go with the smaller engine option, this kind of car isn't meant to be using all 400 horsepower.

  • @txviking
    @txviking 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I actually like hearing a little engine noise. I test drove the Continental several times, and I finally bought one last month. The engine noise doesn't feel intrusive at all, it's just enough to make you feel there's something under the hood, particularly when you punch the throttle.
    Some of the competition features cabins so whisper-quiet you feel too isolated from the world around you. I much prefer the Continental's approach.

    • @PRNTestDrive

    • @txviking
      @txviking 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PRNTestDrive I looked at the Black Label, and compared to the Reserve Edition, I didn't find quite enough to justify the price bump. The Black Label interior "themes" are nifty, but you pay quite a premium for them. And given that you can just tack on a maintenance plan for about $1500, the extra level of service doesn't quite seem worth it either.
      In the end, I wound up with a 2019 Reserve Edition Continental. I just got it last month, so time will tell what kind of dealership relationship I can expect.

    Nice video. I liked the intro and having the ‘62 there for comparison. I seriously looked at purchasing a Reserve in 2018 but couldn’t get past the bland looks. I liked the seats but not much else. I ended up with a 2017 XTS VSport in black. In my opinion, a much prettier car and with AWD, and quite quick with the twin turbos. I hope that you get your hands on a CT6 with the Blackstone V8 when they become available.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Continentals in Canada at least all come with AWD as standard, the XTS here can be FWD or AWD when we were looking into it for this episode. The XTS is also about $10,000 less than this Continental, making it a much better deal.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be fair the Continental is an executive car, so it's more in line with the 5 Series or E-Class both in terms of ride/comfort and price. Both Cadillac and Lincoln need to realize that making 'American Luxury' cars isn't going to cut it. Buyers in the 70s/80s loved these, but today BMW & Mercedes are stomping all over them with well engineered vehicles with top level luxury. Unfortunately I don't see Lincoln going all-in with a serious full-size luxury sedan.

    OK, so a decent video and review. However, i can tell this guy is not a Ford fan, not a hater, but definitely not a fan. also, some of his info is just not correct, for example, Ford decided not to use GM's 9 spd automatic transmission for transverse applications (fyi GM and Ford have collaborated on transmissions before, actually the 6 spd in this car is one such example, currently the deal was for Ford to spearhead a 10 spd auto for RWD based and GM a 9 spd auto for FWD based vehicles). they felt the gas mileage was not good enough to justify the additional expense among other things. not saying that was the best decision, but to say Ford has the 9 spd in other Ford vehicles is incorrect. Also, Ford's 10 spd auto is made for RWD or longitudinal engine applications, so it wouldn't work here.
    Thats just one example, but overall i think it was a fair review. I did, and do, notice that the fit-n-finish on the Conti is not the best especially for the price! Ford should definitely have done better in that department.
    One can get a used Conti at a very good price, at least here in the States. at that level i think the car is a bargain and very good value.

      @PRNTestDrive  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's certainly true, but your typical Lincoln buyer doesn't care about that. The whole week I had this bad boy I'd see one or two other Lincolns on the road, up until Sunday when I saw at least 100, all MKC or MKX crossovers. Ford's target demographic is still buying the brand, but during the time the Continental was shelved those buyers went with crossovers.

    ride and quietness shouldn't just be very good in the top-of-the-line Lincoln. They should be better than anything else you can buy, excepting Rolls Royce and high-end Mercedes. • @PRNTestDrive

      And that's ultimately why the Continental failed. It wasn't a 'no expense spared' vehicle for Ford, but rather a decent attempt to make a mid-size premium sedan. I miss this car, I wish they kept at it, but Ford/Lincoln isn't the same as they were decades ago.

    The exterior is nice looking but that inside is not worthy of the price tag. Cheap shiny plastics, fake looking wood, low res screens... No wonder it doesn't sell. Just look at the new Kia K900 (which we unfortunately don't get in Canada), it's a much better car with an exquisite interior and quite a bit cheaper too

      We barely get the Cadenza also, which is a serious shame.

      @@vladsaghin7644 Definitely not! The Cadenza is a nice E-Class competitor though. I've been begging Kia Canada to let me feature one but they just don't have them on the fleet, even when they had one in Toronto only a few journalists bothered with it.

    These arent popular anymore because they look like shit. The only "luxury sedan" I'd buy to date is the
    Chrysler 300 and even that is kinda eh. With the death of land yachts came the death of luxury sedans and now what's called "luxury sedans" is now sports sedans with leather seats.

      Everything needs to be sport oriented now, that was the thing we didn't experience with the Continental at least. It's probably the least sporty sedan we've driven on the show, considering the Chevy Impala had those menacing black bowties which add 100% sport to the car 😂

    quick complaint: It literally took you 17 and a half minutes to get to driving. Please don't do that in the future. Retrospectives are fine but not 17 and a half minutes of it.

      While I appreciate your feedback, we produce a very different show from most TH-camrs who spend their entire videos driving the car. The point of TestDrive has always been a ‘full tour & review’ of the vehicle. If we cut out the full tour of the car, then we’re just like everyone else on this platform.

      I saw a Continental over the weekend, older gentleman was parking it at the grocery store while I was at the check out. That was the demographic for this car, and Lincoln dropped the ball. It's too bad, I liked it, but it just wasn't as good as it should have been.
