Nah, it's not punk or post-punk. It's straight up pop, and that's fine. I love that you're always out of your genre and looking for stuff that's good. Carry on, good sir.
They just don’t make duets like “It’s Only Love” anymore. What a song and what a time for music 😍 Pure rock passion and enthusiasm shared between two absolute megastars with vocals to die for 🤤 Almost impossible to beat.
Justin, sir, you need to do a video in this studio setting where you CRANK IT UP and play the songs that inspired you to become the magnificent guitarist you are. Also, a cameo by your brother would be cool.
Gday Justin. Thought I would pop in and say thanks for keeping us entertained. Its difficult to wade through so much crap on the internet these days so your channel is refreshing, engaging and funny. You have a sense of humour very much in line with us Aussies. On a personal note I would also like to thank you for your music and in particular your live work. My wife, daughter and I were at your concert here in Sydney a few weeks back and my wife and I were also at your last concert here in (I think) 2017 ? Cant remember the year, but I distinctly remember you guys having an illuminated sign on stage which simply said "cunt"......lucky the daughter didn't come that year she was too young :). However my daughter is now 20 and she has grown up with her parents forcing good rock music down her throat and she loves you guys. She was the one up in the stalls yelling out "play knockers". Both fantastic shows. My wife and I both agree after watching your channel, if we were to play that game where you could invite 5 people......anyone....... to a dinner party....you would be first choice at ours. We love ya and we love your band. Me in particular, being that I am a weekend hacker on guitar, I have enjoyed teaching myself to play a number of your hits. Love it. Our family has that absolute joy of music that you have, its simply something that is critical to our enjoyment in life and we cannot go without it. I was bought up with rock music and its what I learnt most of my guitar on, with my (attempted) lead breaks mostly based around that pentatonic scale you mention frequently when speaking about guitarists that may be a little......lets say "average" ;). Although I am pretty confident I can put together something better that the solo on Take That's cover of Smells like teen spirit....Jesus fucking Christ how bad was that? Like ACDC, Cold Chisel (who you should critique one day, I think you would love them and they are my favourite Aussie band), Australian Crawl, The Living End etc. Being that I am an ordinary guitar player (and avid air drummer), I still really love watching a great guitarist like yourself and others like Eddie Van Halen (GRHS), Dave Gilmour, Stevie Vai (I have the same guitar) etc. Lately we have really been enjoying a guy called Martin Miller, his style is in my opinion outstanding. Its fast, tasteful and extremely precise and for that reason I am requesting you maybe check him out and critique him. Would love to see your opinion. Again thank you, you are a fucking legend. Shame you no longer drink, it would be awesome to have a beer with you. Our house is open if you ever need a place to stay in Sydney. Keep up the good work. Cheers Jus'

Never mind Avril, Justin, I think you've discovered the Fountain of Youth in this episode! What a difference a clean-shaven face and a backwards cap makes... 😁 I honestly had to check which decade we were in after the video started!
Justin, I saw the Darkness in 2013 in the Paradiso. (Think it was part of London calling). It was such a blast, good vibes. You disapeared from the stage and came back from the back playing a guitar solo on someones shoulder. Pretty epic memory so thank you 🙏
Kudos for mentioning Tribe Called Quest. "Low End Theory" (1991) was unlike anything else I'd heard when it first released. Still play it at work to edumacate the younger generation of Chefs. The opening track always gets people bopping around the kitchen 😀
Yes! I cheered when he said A Tribe Called Quest. I love them so much! And De La Soul come to think of it...3 feet high and rising is an iconic album! Also, I watched Eminem's thank you speech for the induction into the hall of fame, and when he listed his 'teachers' in which he cited a lot of rap artists, I cheered a lot in that as well....so much quality hip hop back in the day...
Three classics in a row... "People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythms" , "The Low End Theory" (my favorite front to back) & "Midnight Marauders ". For anyone that wants listen to the greatest.
Absolute classic album. Seen as one of all-time greatest Hip Hop albums and groups. Unfortunately, after 1997 Hip hop has been a long-term decline to the point it unrecognisable.
I thought it was supposed to be pop punk lol but genres get argued so its whatever ig. For sound id just listen to Palaye Royale or whatever its spelled like
Yungblud just reeks of desperation to be famous at any cost. wasnt he originally part of a band? im sure the record co encourraged him to dump them and go solo, check am early vid, he was part of a band.
Right?!?! Pop Punk?!? You mean like the Descendents? Weston? Face 2 Face? I knew that "emo" was hijacked around 2000, but now they are calling these people pop punk. Get outta here.
On some of his own songs he has got a good amount of rasp. This is probably one of the cleanest vocals he's done. And for those claiming auto tune, he is amazing vocally live!
I mean, regardless of the quality of Yungblud's live singing, his voice is clearly auto-tuned in the song. As is the case with almost all prominent artists nowadays.
Hey Justin, I would not usually recommend this as it is not the genre of music you usually analyse, most of all it isnt even in a language you understand, but this week a pillar of Brazilian music history has suddenly passed away, that is Gal Costa, one of the most beautifull voices of Bossa Nova. I wonder if you ever heard her singing and if not could you give us a reaction to her angelical yet powerfull voice?Love all your videos, please come to Brazil.
Brilliant as always. Kansas City is known for their BBQ or Barbeque (meat cooked by smoking it using a wood fire until it falls apart,) hopefully you get a chance to partake while you and Dan are in town. I would recommend the "Burnt Ends" at the original "Joe's Kansas City Bar-B-Que" at 47th & Mission Rd. Alternatively "Q39 - Midtown" is another Kansas City favorite located at 1000 W. 39th just west of Westport. Cheers!
Justin I just want to thank you for introducing me to Aurora. She is not an artist I usually listen to, but my mind was blown at her talent and voice. So thank you again! Also, break a leg at your upcoming gig. I hope America treats you right.
The phrase "industry plant" gets bandied about a lot these days, especially at artists who become popular very quickly. But Yungblud is clearly exactly that. It's like he's what a bunch of out of touch guys in suits in a boardroom perceive punk to be like.
Maybe his creative output just doesn't match his input, that happens. I've been listening to metal pretty much nonstop for the last 20 years, but I started actually creating music recently and it's all techno. Turns out that's what moves me when I let things flow. Sometimes influences go through some bizarre filters and come out looking quite different. Probably worth noting I don't dig Yungblud's stuff so much, but I saw him on some chat show or something a few years ago, and he seemed pretty fkn punk to me, lol.
Avril Lavinge has an powerful amazing voice that loses all feeling and emotion in the overproduce effects and pitch corrected mix. Seems lately it doesn't matter if someone is a great vocalist or an artist that can't sing a note in tune. They post process them the same, so in the end they both just sound acceptably mediocre.
I'd disagree. It's not just the production. She does have a good voice that can be powerful but she sings without emotion. Seeing multiple videos and as a former fan I grew out of her because the passion isn't there. She's dead behind the eyes and doesn't sing any of her songs believably.
I practically worshiped Avril Lavigne as a teenager, I played Under My Skin so much that I wore out the CD and had to get a new copy! 😅 but by the time her next album came out, I’d grown up and her music really hadn’t, that “Hello Kitty” song was frankly embarrassing. Haven’t bothered with her much since and whilst I like this song, it’s not enough to make me rush to get back into her. Shame really, I feel like she could do so much better. Thanks Justin for moving the camera so we could see what you were playing, appreciate that 🥰 and thanks for promising to re-grow your fabulous moustache. You still look great without it, not at all like Gonzo, but I do have an irrationally large soft-spot for that furry little caterpillar upon your top lip 😁🥰
"Nin Stardust" When you mentioned her next album The Best Damn Thing which is where you outgrew her music, I think Avril should've continued going the Post Grunge/Alternative Rock/Metal route from Under My Skin (Stuff like Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Seether, Shinedown etc) instead of releasing Girlfriend and then going Pop in the 2010s. These days I am more into Metal music and although Avril released 2 good albums imo, she was my gateway into heavier music along with Linkin Park, Evanescence, Korn, Slipknot, blink-182, Green Day, Sum 41, Papa Roach, Metallica, Nirvana, BFMV, A7X and BMTH. Btw What music are you into nowadays?
I wish to God I never jumped to conclusions on you when I heard thing called love as it wasnt my cup of tea and now I find very little better than watching these videos you put out and appreciating your musical knowledge and your ability as a guitarist/musician i would love a drop of your talent
Damn, i think the last time i saw you without moustache was during Hot Leg days. Instantly took me back to early The Darkness. Long time fan, great work on a channel - i'm glad that more people are getting to know you.
i think this review really puts your opinion of yungblud into perspective, which is fine we're entitled to opinions. im just glad you werent being sarcastic in the last reviews cause with a lot of the hate surrounding him people act like he's the devil reincatnate when he's just a guy making and people just need to take it as that and chill out. great review man, love the channel!
My first guitar was a Roy Rogers kids guitar at around 3 or 4 years old. I was hooked. Been "playing" ever since, and I'm 53, heading to 54. Never had a lesson in my life, I learned to play by ear, and "Boos" I do "ok"... I'm a humble player, nothing awe inspiring. When I listen to Justin "talking shop", it intrigues me, even though I have no idea what he's saying, mostly... It makes me envious, his serious and extensive knowledge. I wish I knew as much about music as he does. And, Avril has a great voice, I can't think of anything she's done I haven't liked.
Hi Justin. I'm not a mad fan of this pair or this song or their performance. You, however are such a generous teacher. I love music with everything I've got. I'm 40 and have grown up listening to it morning noon and night. I cannot read music properly or play an instrument though 😕. I had piano lessons for 6 years and failed my Grade 1. I absolutely love listening to you explain what is happening and how everything fits together. You help me to peek behind the stage curtain and I could listen to you for hours. I'm so pleased I found your channel and I'm so grateful that you are sharing you knowledge, experience and passion. I really do mean it when I say thank you. In terms of duets, I'll never find one I love more than Dolly Parton and the Ol' Fella doing Islands in the Stream. Closely followed by George Michael and Elton John doing Don't Let The Sun Go Down on me. Neither of which I could play on my piano or my sisters oboe!! 🤘❤️😊🤦♀️
It gives me such joy when you reference the musical touchstones of my childhood as it seems we listened to lots of the same stuff. Love your channel 🤘🏻
The comments about Industry Plants make me laugh honestly, he's never claimed to be punk - more of a hippie and fluid in his music tastes. The dude is a Chameleon of Music and his Discography proves it. Don't believe the rumours and bollocks people come out with. Avril is amazing, Dom (Yungblud) is amazing. Plastering Pop Punk/Punk back on everything just because of a sound or a look. Judging a book by a cover and not knowing the people underneath. Enjoy music, don't cause rumour after rumour. XD Justin, love the fact you've got a level head about music and your guitar's tone is GORGEOUS. A video of just twiddling on it would make a great video. Haha.
Well... the algorithm has served up a bit of JH rides again a few times before now... perhaps off the back of watching a lot of Michael Palmisano ? I've resisted up until this point, but today you got me. The silly tom foolery coupled with guitar nerd antics and fancy clothes has reeled me in to hit the subscribe button. Thank you Justin, more often than not, this channel has turned the corners of my mouth upward and for that I salute you good sir!! 🤘Rock and Roll
I think you also look good without the mustache, Justin. It's the version of you I got used to seeing first so I actually didn't notice until you pointed it out. I don't see the gonzo resemblance!
Ah Justin, you bought back some memories with the Back for Good reference. As a spotty young lad with fresh hairs coming out of me and being into the angsty tunes of the day, I always thought of Take That and the like to be just "girl music" and, at the time, didn't appreciate how brilliantly written and performed those songs were. What a naive little plonker I was. My mother would agree. Nowadays, I can't get enough of a well written pop tune. I wanna bathe in them.
Hi Jus, one of your lovely commenters asks about your baseball cap. Can you confirm it is a Celine Homme baseball cap. The C is for Celine. I found it for sale for £395. Is this the one, mate? I think Toby C wants to buy one. A little too high for me, but it is lovely. Thank you gorgeous 💖
The one blatant thing that stands out to me is at 14:37 where Yungblud is strumming away and there is absolutely no sound coming from the guitar. It's a bit odd.
Punk was commercialised by people like the Sex Pistols, Ramones, The Clash etc who sold out. You can buy their t-shirts in Primark in the UK i can't think of much more establishment than that. Mainstream "punk" hasn't been anti-establishment since about 1979. Yungblud, as much as I hate him, isn't any worse in that sense than Sex Pistols or Ramones.
@@maquettemusic1623 Those are the bands who started it, as well... so if they sold out, then what exactly do you go with? Gutter punks from the Cali scene who never made it? Pat Smear's playing Beatles covers with Paul McCartney. I don't think he pictured that when he started out in the germs, but our lives lead down weird paths.
What makes you say he's got greatness in him? I can see compared to a lot of today's popstars he stands out, and he's obviously talented but greatness! I don't know enough about him to comment, just know he wears the right clothes and says the right things...
Finn Mckenty said Youngblud has good front man qualities: stage presence, the voice, and the look. That said I don't think he likes his music much. Not to advertise another channel, just sharing since it's related
You can tune a vocal with Melodyne and NOT have it sound like that. This is Auto Tune as an intentional effect which, as you say, seems weirdly incongruous on a punk pop track but is probably the only way he’s comfortable being recorded/mixed. It’s not about just pitch correction. They’ve made a choice to have that sound. Sadly.
If people listen to any of his music, he doesn't have autotune like that on practically anything else. There is one song on his new album that has clearly intentional over the top autotune, but the rest of it is the real deal and he can do it all in a live and acoustic environment, too.
Hey Justin. These videos are brilliant, keep up the good work. Any chance of doing a video on Alice In Chains MTV unplugged. Either Nutshell or Down In a Hole. I'd love to see you have a go at Lanes vocals!!!
Hi Justin. Three months ago the algorithm gods led me to a band called The Warning, three hard rocking sisters from Mexico, and have been pretty much obsessed ever since. They have released three albums in five years and are still only 22, 20 and 17 years old. Would love to hear your reaction to them. They have a few videos from their latest album but this one, Disciple, has a lot of visuals you could get your teeth into. th-cam.com/video/p9GcS8ptpCY/w-d-xo.html. But you could pick any song from any album, they just don't have any bad songs! Saw you guys in Perth on your Oz tour, great show, great channel. Cheers Steve
It's a cracking song with a cracking melody, and Avril's voice is sounding better than it has for a long time. You should watch the acoustic version of "I'm With You" she did with Yungblud earlier this year. She sounds incredible on it. As for Avril still looking young, she's only 38, not 58. From experience, 40 is the threshold where things start going to shit 😭
As someone who isn’t particularly a fan of Yungblud… id be interested to hear your thoughts on his interview with Louis Theroux?? Btw i think you look very nice without the moustache!
The live video knocking about on TH-cam exemplifies this perfectly. Both of them belting out the tune, not trying to sing it "record perfect" just captured and going by the energy and passion of it.
Loving the Channel Justin. Once Ive paid British Gas and have afforded to eat a contribution shall be sent directly to yoo. That Les Paul sounds incredible, what a beautiful, honest tone. You Sir are spoiling us…..have a great gig😅
@@JustinHawkinsRidesAgain Nooo Justin! Dont do it! Dont go all Beato on us! Interview that guy spoofs him all the time instead. That guy who does "What makes this song stink". Cant remember his name but his Beato jokes are very good.
Yep a pretty song by pretty people. Not much substance here but nice chords. Nice of you Justin to mention The Sex Pistols and The Clash. You really need to breakdown some of the killer old school English punk and a bit of post punk please. Start with "Pretty Vacant" by the Pistols. Then maybe "Melody Lee" or "Smash it Up " by The Damned. Then hit us up with,The Clash,The Stranglers,Generation X,Buzzcocks, The Jam,Siouxsie and the Banshees etc. Please. The kids need some education in the way of a few serious history lessons.
Yungblud dyes his hair and pulls faces at the camera, which is EXACTLY what the Sex Pistols did and was why they became popular and why they were important, and Yungblud does it too he's EXTREME TO THE MAX, MAN!!! A real outrageous dude.
Yungblud look like they compressed all of Green Day into one person.
LMAO 💀💀
Then gave him the vocals of a boy band
I'd love to see all of Green Day compressed, preferably in one of those car-crushers. 👺

Damn, i think the last time i saw you without moustache was during Hot Leg days. Instantly took me back to early The Darkness. Long time fan, great work on a channel - i'm glad that more people are getting to know you.
That Hat Justin! I love it, I have gone back through the videos to figure out if you ever commented on it, where can one purchase that C hat!
Toby C, I think it is a Celine baseball cap. The C is for Celine, £395 Celine Homme cap, I think you will find. It's lovely but yikes..... 😅
That's a pricey hair piece
Favourite duet, Little Baby Nothing, James Dean Bradfield + Traci Lords.
My sisters favourite song x
i think this review really puts your opinion of yungblud into perspective, which is fine we're entitled to opinions. im just glad you werent being sarcastic in the last reviews cause with a lot of the hate surrounding him people act like he's the devil reincatnate when he's just a guy making and people just need to take it as that and chill out. great review man, love the channel!
Yungblud's cover of Life on Mars is just stunning, worth a listen!
Dont grow it back yet. I remember your original look like yesterday. Love ya Justin.
My first guitar was a Roy Rogers kids guitar at around 3 or 4 years old.
I was hooked.
Been "playing" ever since, and I'm 53, heading to 54.
Never had a lesson in my life, I learned to play by ear, and "Boos"
I do "ok"...
I'm sure it was in another song first, but that main guitar riff sure reminds me of OK Go's "No Sign of Life" *quite* a bit...
You look lovely Justin! No gonzo vibes, just totally cute 😁
You look much better without facial hair to me, a lot younger. Now i feel the need to watch "Is It Just Me?" over and over again.
Shocking!!!
I think you look splendid with or without your fuzzy lip covering.
The mustache does NOT make the man, Jussy!
It gives me such joy when you reference the musical touchstones of my childhood as it seems we listened to lots of the same stuff. Love your channel 🤘🏻
Justin Hawkins rides again..... with The Darkness should be the opening to your gigs!!
Haha.
Justin Fucking Hawkins Rides Again! 🎶🎶
....againnnnnn
Somebody make and edit of every time Justin has said “AAAYYYRR” with his hands on his hips. it’s my favorite part of every video.
it's his Jagger innit
Right? Spit my coffee every time he does it😆😆😆
Haha I was thinking the same. Love me a jagger parody
Ok so that’s two people talking about jagger. I know he put his hands on his hips like that but did he ever say “aaayyyyrrr” like that?
@@codycoyote7046 it's 'ere, as in here without the H.
Well... the algorithm has served up a bit of JH rides again a few times before now... perhaps off the back of watching a lot of Michael Palmisano ? I've resisted up until this point, but today you got me. The silly tom foolery coupled with guitar nerd antics and fancy clothes has reeled me in to hit the subscribe button. Thank you Justin, more often than not, this channel has turned the corners of my mouth upward and for that I salute you good sir!! 🤘Rock and Roll
I think you also look good without the mustache, Justin. It's the version of you I got used to seeing first so I actually didn't notice until you pointed it out. I don't see the gonzo resemblance!
Your tone is really beautiful just even tryin to figure it
well done;)
Oh it’s a Gibson… modified? Either way sounds so good
You look nothing like Gonzo! 😂. You look handsome clean shaven
Atomic kitten-whole again
I like the no mustache!! Love this channel!!
There is a section of this, I guess it's going from D to Bm, that kinda reminds me of People Get Ready, but then it goes a different direction.
I luv that he analises the songs using the guitar
The one blatant thing that stands out to me is at 14:37 where Yungblud is strumming away and there is absolutely no sound coming from the guitar. It's a bit odd.
God speed to you Mr. Hawkins!!! Stay strong, keep the faith and ROCK ON!!!
When I was growing up punk was against the establishment not for it....these guys are not punk they are 100% Pop music.
Love your videos and how you break down the songs. In this video we can’t see your fretting hand. Great as always. Cheers
I see you fixed it 😂
Any other guitarists just drooling over that Les Paul custom, my god, beautiful
Our boy has the 1176s and Pultecs in the background, awesome.
Now I'm no expert, far from it but those chords and that tuning are used expertly by third eye blind, specifically the album with the red cover
Sounds like Boyzone! Time is a flat circle! Blessed be!
Yungblud is a walking advert for Revlon and Ritalin!
Thank you for being so awesome. Love from Chile.
1:20 You trademarked the gap between left and right sides of the mustache? Oh great, I've got that, too. Where do I need to start sending the cheques?
He's looking quite youthful without the glorious soup strainer, but I understand the love of facial hair
You sold me at A Tribe Called Quest. ❤😂
Your commentary is far more interesting than the song itself...
Have followed them for a while. Great young band.
Thanks for the suggestion Steve!
Auto tune misses feeling and what makes a song real.
Wait, does this mean I fancy Gonzo? I always thought it was Animal I had a crush on 🤣
It's a cracking song with a cracking melody, and Avril's voice is sounding better than it has for a long time. You should watch the acoustic version of "I'm With You" she did with Yungblud earlier this year. She sounds incredible on it.
As for Avril still looking young, she's only 38, not 58. From experience, 40 is the threshold where things start going to shit 😭
I just turned 40 and boy are you right.
We old farts can vow to that
I'm 42 and look fantastic
Love your smile without moustache 🙂
As someone who isn’t particularly a fan of Yungblud… id be interested to hear your thoughts on his interview with Louis Theroux??
Btw i think you look very nice without the moustache!
Haha Justin breaking out some Gary Barlow. The patron children will appreciate that lol
Nothing beats the sheer energy and enthusiasm of "It's Only Love." It's so raw and real. They didn't ruin it by polishing it too much.
Looking perfectly cool and fresh sans-tache, Jus. 😁
Are you going to do an interview with Rick Beato? You're not that far from Atlanta.
Yes in December! I don't live on that continent.
@@JustinHawkinsRidesAgain
Nooo Justin!
Dont do it!
Dont go all Beato on us!
Interview that guy spoofs him all the time instead.
That guy who does "What makes this song stink". Cant remember his name but his Beato jokes are very good.
The Beato interview with Novoselic and Thayil is amazing #legends
Acceptance - In The Cold. Its very underrated but it's very catchy.
Then hit us up with,The Clash,The Stranglers,Generation X,Buzzcocks,
The Jam,Siouxsie and the Banshees etc.
Please.
The kids need some education in the way of a few serious history lessons.
Your face is so handsome. It's nice to see it uncovered. I like the mustache break!
You look fantastic without the mustache!
Good day sir!
You look good man. Face needs a break sometimes, imo.
Good luck in Kansas City!
Justin, we need some effects on the intro. Only seems reasonable since you're using a beautiful les paul.
Justin Hawkins Rides Again, I want THAT hat you have there !!!!!!!!!!
It might be the accoutrements that puts me on larger stages 😉
I like this song also if I think that punk is another thing! Anyway the 17.03 is one of my fave day too!😘😍
No mustache looks great, man! I believe I like it better. 🤘
Yungblud dyes his hair and pulls faces at the camera, which is EXACTLY what the Sex Pistols did and was why they became popular and why they were important, and Yungblud does it too he's EXTREME TO THE MAX, MAN!!! A real outrageous dude.
Yeah but he's not punk
Hey Justin, I feel it only right to mention “Yungblood” (if that’s how you spell it.) was once in “Emmerdale”…. I know, fantastic info! …
I liked your word curtain and hope you have fun in Kansas
