    Beautiful representation of a Harrier GR-9. Hopefully, Airfix will do a 1/48 sometime soon.

    I had the honour of serving alongside this gorgeous old lady in Belize as they were on duty along the Nicaraguan border as a deterrent.
    Three returned to the airport and before landing, stopped and bowed to their ground crews.
    Those were the days 😃

      Something I've seen them do at airshows but on active service? That's just showing off. No wonder the deterrent worked!

      Thanks mate! It is a very lovely kit for the price, and as there is no competition really at this scale it's a must for a lover of the Harrier breed I think.

    Looks superb I had or nearly had a similar problem with a nose gear like that once I carefully trimmed to lugs then cemented it in place it’s a Git when it breaks near the end of a build but you saved it ,on a lighter note when I worked for London transport we had Dennis darts called harriers and the garage was known as harrier base so over the radio you would hear hotel bravo 4 for eg from Harrier base hehe we would joke ok Roger Wilco old chap but I went onto double deckers more money 😂😂
    All the best mate

    Terrific looking lady there Gary. Your version of "I've done nothing terribly special" is me doing the model of my life.
    Nearly forgot to mention but at 7:30 your impression of an airbrush noise was just uncanny wish I had one to compare it to. Keep modelling on bud.

    Nice Work Gary, that paintshop up at Warton was a Shambles😉😉It could've come out as Pink with Yellow spots if it wasn't careful. Not sure about the Pylon on the outrigger position, either it was fitted or it wasn't on the GR7(yes I know it's a 9, but I'd escaped the camp by then)

      Pink with yellow dots? Isn't that the famous "Mr Blobby" camouflage??? Confuse the bejeezus out of the enemy so you can drop oooh nasties on them?

    Nice build Gary, well done and another great video. Like you I’m not sure about those greys. It doesn’t fit my mental image of a Harrier but without references to hand I can’t be certain. Still, one of the pleasures of the hobby is painting our models as we see fit.

    Fantastic price for the kit, with this good of a review it moved right to the top of must get list. It's not a near perfect new mold $100+ kit, it just goes together as it should. As a 48th scale, it will be a classic modern jet off the list and onto the display shelves. Just enough details and not overly obnoxious to build. Hopefully how to make the proper airbrush noises is in the instructions.
    Thanks Gary for this review. Well done 👍 and cheers ☕

    cracking build as usual Gary , i do love a Harrier like if i was going to build a recent jet this one would be in the running along with a F4 Phantom and a Lightning , not really a fan of the modern jets unfortunatly ...maybe an A10 in the more recent age ....looking forward to the 1/24 Spit build though !!!!! ...take care Shaun.

    Hi Gary, the Harrier turned out perfectly mate well done, it's a pty the RAF had to get rid of them, still may favourite Harrier is the one tnat has the nosed that looks as if it was taken from a F4 Phantom, bext regards from a Kiwi living in Australia.

    • @garys_stuff

      Yeah, the one with the fancy radar in the nose that Spain now uses - what should have been the GR.11 - damn I wish we'd kept them on a while.

    • @harriergr7728
      @harriergr7728 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dodgy Dave Cameron got rid of them, not the RAF. He also sold nearly all of them to the USA for a knocked down bargain price!

    • @garys_stuff

      That'd be the FA.2 I guess with the bigger radar and that works with the AIM-120. A fine machine!

    You are right about the sidewinder, it usually fits on the pylon next to the fuel tank, of all the pictures I have I have never seen it anywhere else, for a GR7/9 , it seems a constant failing of model companies that the instructions alway show them on the outside, but I have not once found a picture, maybe it is a US thing? And companies assume UK is the same

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Airfix 1/72 GR9 has (from inner to outer) fuel tank, BOL rail for AIM-9 in front of outrigger, CRV7 pod, Paveway IV.

    • @simonbarnes7620
      @simonbarnes7620 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@garys_stuff that makes sense as Airfix is a uk company, not seen the Airfix model, usually only dabble in aircraft and then only 1/144 scale, the Revell harrier suffer from the same problem of the sidewinders.I usually do vehicle’s especially things that shoot aircraft down😂 sometimes think about doing larger aircraft but then it’s a matter of space. 1/72 vehicles and 1/144 aircraft fit my display cabinets well at the moment

    Gary, she looks fabulous! Once again, a lovely colour scheme as well. 👍
    I said last time that it looked a nice and easy kit to put together, but once it's got paint on, it looks fabulous, and you've done a brilliant job! 😌

    Perfectly menacing squat as it sits there on the pad. The canopy det cord decal looks great-- Monogram's original AV-8B was engraved but didn't have a decal and I had no idea how to paint it. The exhaust nozzles turned out awesome.
    Leaving out weapons was a dumb idea -- the weapons sets are very hard to find.

  • @geordie_mech
    @geordie_mech ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Gary. I think you could have given a cleaner build review if yiu still carried out the basics such as dry fitting, filling and sanding etc. I'm by no means a rivet counter, but I've built this kit several times already. The nose section sits too high when you fit to the main fuse. I had to use 1.2mm plasticard along the upper surfaces to bring the nose down a little. The nose gear should be built up as one unit, not attaching the lower oleo and swing arm at the last minute.

      @@geordie_mech For an American Marine version I'd probably get the Kinetic's kit. For this Hobby 2k though, similar to Gary's choice of the 2 tone RAF. It would give the pair enough differentiation to highlight the beauty of the 2 styles of such an unusual fighter. Considering I am a newer modeller, figured this Hobby 2000 kit would be a safer and slightly easier one to put on the shelf first, and later as skills improve and more experience, onto it's shelfmate for something like the Kinetic's (or whatever comes out over the next few years).
      So just a load out representative of typical RAF, even if aftermarket.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      For satin and gloss I use Vallejo varnishes in an airbrush, although i'm not 100% happy with the gloss. For matt finishes I use Galeria acrylic varnish from Windsor & Newton from an art shop.
