As a Bilingual Tutor for one of the High Schools in my county, I saw a lot of parents who were concerned about their sons and daughters missing school. However, these parents could do very little to make their eldest get up and get to the school bus. Why? Because they had to be at their factory job at 6AM for the first shift and could not be home to get their eldest up and going. If these parents were jailed who would work to pay rent and all the rest? Not everyone has an office job. Factory jobs require long hours and no excuses or you're out the door. Only a deluded, entitled person thinks that everyone should do what not everyone can do. Some of the parents were Hispanic people who did not know too much English and had no time with their factory hours to get into an English class. If they lost their factory jobs who would hire them with their Limited English Proficiency? There are economic realities that make it difficult for parents to make their older kids go to school if those kids choose not to regardless of their parents efforts. And you jail the parents? Does that resolve anything? And, why on earth would jailing parents be so funny? This woman is outrageous!
