    Hi Gary. Great home improvements vid. Water jobs whilst it's quiet outside, at this time of year for us. You have your home defences in order. The lamps mounted on the boards with the horseshoes was a brill idea. I hope all is well. We've had a fair bit of snow but nothing to cause problems. Stay safe. Take care. 🤓🐶🧔🏻‍♂ Johnny and Jacob.

    Crikey that's a huge shoe the horse must have been massive! Love those lamps you made, I received a carriage lamp as a Christmas present, I felt reasonably prepared when we had the back outs caused by Eunice but more the merrier!
    Tell you what, maybe a crossbow would be more effective for the burglars? You could pin the buggers to the wall with it. Leave them there as trophies to ward off others haha ....... Too far?

      Hello, a great present you got ! im often browsing ebay for lamps, Vicky went into my search history and got me these lamps at a very good price, the person selling them thought they were just ornamental and were not real working oil lamps. Hope your all keeping well, dont forget you have a free break at our caravan if you fancy one. keep safe and well. ( no thats not too far for a bugger that tries to steal from me ! ha ha )

    Happy New Year to you and your family Gary. Great video. I’m gathering all my bits for my allotment to do repairs. Need to wait until warmer to start painting inside the house so I can have the windows open. My husband has COPD so cannot have strong paints smells around for long. My youngest son built me a trailer out of a huge plastic tub that had been used for mixing cement and I hook it on the back of my mobility scooter so I am able to transport heavy stuff mainly to the allotment but have a load of logs at the front of the house which needs moving to the back so the trusty trailer will be coming out. I love reusing stuff much to the disgust of my allotment neighbours wife who I never see with a spade but just walking round with her hands in her trouser pockets telling her husband and everyone else what they should be doing. She picked the wrong one with me 😂😂😂😂 have a great week and hope to hear from you soon 👍

    Lovely video, Gary. I do like these little insights into your homesteading life, and I love to see other people making the most of what they have. Years ago we were given a load of decking boards that were being thrown out and I've used them for so many different projects! They've been a lean-to wall, above-ground pond cladding, planters, greenhouse flooring, chicken house and run framing, loads of things. Re-using stuff is great, and cheap, and TH-cam is a fantastic resource for learning new skills, solving problems, and giving us ideas. I imagine you'll be busy planting stuff fairly soon - I'm looking forward to seeing what goes in this year. Best of luck with everything!

    The remote cottage in Wales at least 300 or so years old needs so much doing to it and cannot have solar power to main lights or lamps but solar can only run white goods and small devices agreed. So it's all oil and candle if you do not mind I like what you did with carriage lights and wondered if I could use the idea minus the horseshoes I have learned so through your channel on top of family-taught farming I look forward to the next.

A certain type of "community member" likes to steal off road bikes and thought because I had an old motor x motor home in front of my garage that inside there would be a bike. Well there was not. I love the lamps and horseshoe shelves, very nice. I wanted to see them at night. The 'idiot' may be closer than you think, he might live in Downing Street.....!!!!!! Have a painting party, the 4 of you all get cracking together for a few hours, followed by a takeaway or some other treat...

      Hello Bry, hope all is well. We cant afford takeaway !!! ha ha we have spent the money on paint ! I must admit trying to live on a shoe string and living off the land the luxury's go out of the window, but im enjoying the break from not having to look after the Tik tok phone zombie gen ! We had a poorly chicken the other day, we went all out to save its life as its life to us is now so vital for us to live ! its brought a new twist to self sufficiency where its no longer a game ! really enjoying the challenges having less money brings. I have a confession to make Bry, i done some skip diving at the back of pound land yesterday, we got loads of bread to feed our chickens and also got 14 bags of multi pack crisps just a few days out of date ( 84 bags of crisps ! ), they was double bagged all in clean bags ! only just been put out ! life is great when there is a sell by date ! Jackpot ! ha ha, yes i have no shame Bry !, perhaps a painting crisp night ! thanks and take good care

      Hello Dr prepper. The only trouble with the oil lamps is that they are expensive to run.( we use a clean burn paraffin specially for indoor use, very low fumes) Im looking to connecting my downstairs electrical lighting up to solar/battery system soon, but with the extra prepping backup of oil lamps as well, if there is an EMP attack or a huge solar flair a lot of electrical stuff could fail. Oil lamps will never fail as long as you stock up on wicks and oil, which we have done here. Thanks so much for your comment, keep safe and happy prepping, I'm sure the war is coming our way next month ! i hope im wrong !

      @@ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD I’ve had a terrible feeling of this conflict escalating hence why we sold up last year & moved rural . Didn’t want to be in urban area when the crap hits the fan. We literally completed as mortgages started getting pulled - ours was sorted & good till end of November- our buyers were First time buyers & relying on a 95% mortgage. They told us another week & their provider had pulled their product. We’ve got a 1700s cottage with a double storey addition in 2005 so we’ve got something nice to eat and sleep in while we renovate the ‘museum’ as we call the old cottage . We’ve got paraffin hurricane lanterns & hundreds of candles & matches but want to now get some oil lamps . Also want to get chickens it’ll all be full systems go as soon as the weather improves. Happy New Year to all the family, looking forward to another year of your adventures, thanks for another very interesting video, my OH has just started to get into pallets, your carriage lanterns look beautiful. We also have a house with two staircases, in fact it is two houses at the moment and one is derelict but we plan to reconnect them eventually. If you don’t mind me asking, do your upstairs halves of the house connect upstairs? Ours don’t and can’t unless we build some sort of extension so we’re thinking carefully about what to do. Your wood fired Rayburn video has got us thinking we will go that way eventually for cooking and maybe heating. We’ve been here about 18 months and just getting the outside under control has been the priority so far. My OH has been installing 12 second hand solar panels, mounted on frames made of old fences he has reused and old cut up telegraph poles concreted into the ground to stop it all blowing away. We haven’t bought any fruit or veg since last spring and it’s been great food. Thanks Gary, all the best for 2023 😊

His academic paper, Deep Adaptation went viral (downloaded over 2 million times) and it explores how we can work to ensure we avoid a Mad Max-style future by thinking through some of the important philosophical issues now and deciding what kind of post-civilisational world we want.

    Hiii! happy to see you're doing well, I didn't know you had a TV, I don't like TVs I find them a waste of money, just get a computer and you can watch stuff for free on TH-cam is my opinion! Most likely will have a fish tank in the place where a normal household tv would sit, much prefer it and then there's no news that kick starts my anxieties. I don't listen to much radio, my "radio" is just Lofi beats I recommend you just have a peak and see if you like it. Are you ok though? I didn't think you'd need to resort to a firearm, it just seems like something from the USA rather than UK, there have been a lot of murders where I reside at recently so I'm not too comfortable but I agree, there are selfish people and a lot of them, I've grown to become more selfish because everyone keeps taking and not giving back and I have to protect what little I have. I love me some lanterns too! really enjoy candles too, beeswax only though because my throat closes up with other candles in a closed room. You joke about power-cuts meanwhile we had them in the north, maybe you did too? I really wish I could lead this life...

    • @ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD
      @ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, its always good to hear from you, I also have a Lofi radio station on that app, i do enjoy that music as well. The rifle i use is mostly for dispatching the poultry, but i have no problem in defending myself from thieves, but if someone needed help or food because they really needed it i would help them out for sure, which i have done in the past. My guns are kept safe in a gun cupboard at all times. My children can also be trusted. You mentioned power cuts, it seems like the planned blackouts are coming very soon, my recent video is on oil lamps for the coming power cuts. Keep safe and well, take good care.

    Now days the paint companies just add your blood. At least the price we pay for paint these days makes me feel that way. Roku users here too ... and US has no TV taxes. Live TV is nothing but trash anyway. Also your lantern holders look very nice ... I know it isn't period, but adding a piece of shiny metal or a mirror behind the lamp on the board will magnify the amount of light you get significantly.
