Most hiring decisions are made through the informal networks of managers and supervisors. Minorities cannot access these networks and are eliminated from the HR department's candidate vetting and selection process.

Thank you Timeka, for being a great mentor to me. It’s sad but I think companies (including the ones mentioned) are manipulatively retaining their DEI initiatives without investing so much into it. To cut cost, they chose to make their DEI Professionals/Team redundant but retain DEI efforts which they push to broader HRs. They would probably be thinking “DEI is HR job after all. So why pay DEI Professionals when we have HRs who can do the work?” Deep down they like the idea of DEI since it helps keep them relevant, trendy with political movements whilst bumping up their image. However, they don’t understand why it requires dedication, investment and resources to push DEI efforts. As a result, they would rather remove DEI publicly but retain it by treating it like a function in HR or project to be handled by the wider HR. That way they save costs and resources for DEI programs which are not significantly impacting their overall business objectives. PS: Before y’all come for me, please note This is just my opinion which is not necessarily a true representation of all company culture 😅😂

The was that DEI plays out has always felt very nebulous. While there have been some progress, much of the core problems exist, particularly as someone who feels easily targeted or first to get cut on account of neurodivergence. In that respect, I have trouble seeing what it can do.
I feel like identifying diversity statistics is important but. Merit, equality, and impartially in the work place seems more important than just meeting quotas.
DEI helps to verify that you're includes in those statistics...working in HR for the last 13 years has shown me that without these protections, we would never be included. For most, minority merit, etc means nothing to them. I've worked with too many CEOs, decision makers, etc that can't get pass the skin color. Can't wait til we can get to the day where equality truly happens everywhere in the US. Keep in mind, DEI stats are created to verify you're being equatable. The decision makers think it doesn't impact their quota. You may find his link helpful: heyyyhr.com/category/dei/
I have a HR question? I’m currently going to school for a bachelors in communication because the college nearest to my home doesn’t have a bachelors degree for HR. So I’m going for communications and I’ve read on that with the bachelors and communication you can get an HR job. But when I look at for like examples of people who have it’s hard to find some. Do you think the chances of me getting hired for HR with a bachelors and communication are too low?
Just make sure that you do an internship that's all I would say. I worked in higher ed for almost a decade and it's not always degree focused as much as it is experience focused so just focus on getting experience you should be fine
this is nice...but half the story. EEO laws and programs have existed for years which covered all the topic areas you mentioned. DEI at is core is different, but companies (and DEI advocates) combined all together. Essentially, take things that everyone is ok so that you can push things no one agrees with and make it sound like it's not new. As a result, the things people don't like, like the pushing speakers who tell everyone that they are inherently racist due to race, gender stuff, etc, gets lumped into initiatives to make sure disability workers can work in the office. Then you have to add the reality that Blackrock, State Street and Vanguard (the systematic financial companies that own the world and could end all discrimination in like 30 seconds since they run the "system") are the ones forcing companies to setup DEI programs in the first place due to the ESG requirements. Maybe I'm dumb, but I doubt the evil banks are going to push a program because they actually care. In the end, EEO laws and accommodations for disabled workers are not going away. Companies are not going to stop hiring black people (companies aren't that stupid to avoid people due to race because their competition will hire the talent instead). Also, with Trump in office all these companies know they are going to lose massive federal contracts if they don't cut DEI. In summary, DEI gone won't change anything for anyone and life will go on. Companies won't save money keeping these programs, but will lose billions in federal contracts and sales.
The pushback against DEI was a political one. The rightwing mouthpieces catered to it's base by raging against it and it worked especially in the corporate space imo.
As a Mexican, I'm all for eliminating DEI. No DEI means not hiring Black people in order to fill a quota. If companies are going to hire based on who works the most, that means a lot more jobs for Mexicans.
Wow!!!! All kinds of wrong with that statement. You would've been better off saying you hate black people and wish they weren't around. Even though, if it wasn't for black people asking for DEI, so Mexicans can get an equal shot of getting hired, too. SMDH
@@tbirdboy Walmart is getting rid of DEI. I doubt Walmart is going to choose African Americans over Mexicans. We know who gets work done, and who doesn't.

Wrong, being a minority does not exclude you from networking. Open your mouth and do the work. Its not that hard.
That’s why I emphasize networking. It’s so important
Show me proof that they are being eliminated because they are a minority.. you can't as you're talking out your ass.
Yes, DEI is far more than being black or just race-focused. Thank you for your fresh perspective always Timeka ❤
