What an AWESOME Video for those of us who just bought New Camper Trailers. My New Camper already has a "JACK IT" bottom bracket installed, it just doesn't have the top. I'm buying one used and this will work. I have some EXPENSIVE Santa Cruz MTBikes that I think will be just fine in that rack, now that I know. Thanks Man.
You really lucked out getting the bottom bracket with the trailer and finding the top part used. These things aren't cheap. You'll be glad you have it. It's great.
Thanks so much for your detailed demo. I’ve been researching racks in anticipation of purchasing a travel trailer. We purchased one yesterday and it came with this very bike rack. All my research had pointed to the jacket bike rack previously. The only bad thing is and 4 foot tall and less than average strength.I’ll have to work out on how to overcome that very soon. Pretty sweet that your trailer came with the bike rack. One thing you can do when putting the bikes on and off is to lower the tongue jack to bring the bike rack down to a more manageable level. Have fun with the new trailer!
We have this rack, bought it from a dissatisfied user for $60. It came with the off set riser and a straight riser for TT's that do not slope back enough for the rear off set. Also, with our bikes, I remove the seat posts and seats for transit, as the seats interfere with the handle bars of the adjacent bike. I am short (and old) so I lower the tongue to load and unload the bikes. That said, there is also a learning curve for adjusting the carrier for different size bikes, you got to be patient.

BUT, we just made a long trip to the East coast & back and realized, I should've installed the upper wings and brought along my bike! I'm getting it all setup and ready for our next trip! Nice to have the old clunker bike along, to make those trips up to the RV park office, pool or laundry, or just when I want to take a ride! -Tom

Great video ! Very accurate We have the same one and love it, when I load our bikes I back the truck up just far enough and put my tailgate down then then stand on the tailgate and lift the back bike up and over I might try your way Thanks

(Just got back from a 120 mile trip over rough gravel roads with an electric bike and a cross bike attached to the rear bumper of my travel trailer. Noticed that the paint was worn off the bike tube where it was resting on the arm of rack. Also broke a strap as well. Had to really cinch them down to keep them from moving. My neighbor commented that the bikes were really bouncing around behind the trailer when he happened to be driving up behind us- probably lucky we made it back without losing them so I will give this new rack a try - looks like a much better place to carry the bikes- thanks Again
Our bikes used to get really banged up on the back of the travel trailer. We've had the Jack-it for over 3 years now and no issues at all. We now put an e-bike and a regular mountain bike on it. It says the max capacity is 80lbs but we have about 85lbs on it. Never had any issues. Good luck with the new rack!
I just mounted the Jackit II to my Keystone Passport. I wanted a bike carrier supported by the frame of the trailer, not the back bumper. I was always leery of the bikes on the back bumper where there is only 4 welds holding the bumper on. Too much bounce, didn't feel safe. This arrangement seems much safer. Great video.
You'll feel much more comfortable being able to see the bikes out the rear view mirror and seeing how secure they are. I'm glad you liked the video and it helped in your decision making. Happy camping!

I've never really thought about it with a hybrid. You'd probably just have to remove a cotter pin and bolt to take the top part off. It's a bit of a hassle.

Great review and instructions. I have a very high end Thule bumper mount rack and really messed up my wife’s new townie bike due to the bouncing at the rear of the trailer. I’m going with this rack.
I found it helps to take 1 side of rack off, hang the rear wheel of rear bike and then have wife put rack back on and then hang front wheel. This helps if you are a little short and the rack isn’t in the way while lifting rear bike.

Tried everything to secure bikes. Some racks shouldn't even be on the market. I don't get why there is no gov't department against shonky products. I live in Canada now as a ex patriot from Australia. Some of these racks wouldn't be allowed in Australia. Wouldn't pass safety. This rack was like a gift from the God's. Finally some educated design. I just installed it and love it! Solid build for once. Not like most the garbage online. Thanks for your great video. The manual is very sad.

Awesome! This just might work for our little KZ Sportsman 181BH…it’s a bit jammed up with our tanks, battery and space but my hubby is tall (check!) and I think we have same tongue jack product (check!)
These are not going to work for everyone as I’m about to start removing mine to return. There has a be a minimum distance between where this is mounted (directly behind the ball receiver on the tongue) and the trailer body. If there’s not enough room, the rear bike won’t fit. Also ran into some major QC issues regarding stripped bolts and incorrect parts packaged in my box. Extremely disappointing but glad it worked for you.
What about the rods? I only saw one in your video. There are four. Do they go in between the spokes? Or rest against the wheels? Did you take the rods off?
One of the best demonstration videos I have seen. Excellent job. Except for one thing. How did you determine which holes to put the bike holder hardware on it? I imagine it will be intuitive. Just wondering. Mine came already installed on the trailer - with no instructions of course. All 4 mounting pins are on the same side. I doubt I'll be able to mount two bike on the same side. lol
I was wondering if your F-150 has Pro Backup Assist and so, did you have trouble placing the checkered sticker on the trailer frame after installation of the Jack-It.
The truck has pro backup assist but with the trailer I have, the propane tank cover covers the area on the frame that the checked sticker is supposed to go so I never put them on. I don't use the Pro backup assist. I had a look at it and I can't see why the Jack-it would interfere with it.
Love your videos! We are just wondering about how you transport your kayaks? Do you use kayak brackets on your truck cap roof rack? Do any of your previous episodes show how you put your kayaks on and take them off your roof rack? What are your thoughts about driving with kayaks in winter to head south?
We put roof racks on our cap when we first got it. We drilled right through the cap and used large washers on the inside when bolting them down. We then attached kayak racks to the roof rack. We were lucky enough to find ours at a garage sale where we got both sets for $10 but you can find them on Amazon amzn.to/3U6aD3d. We haven't shown the actual set up but we have recorded a few times where we are taking the kayaks off of the truck. You can see that in our Sauble Falls video at 14:20 th-cam.com/video/_jzMm9w9TyU/w-d-xo.html. I'm very pleased with them and have never had a negative issue. It's definitely a 2 person job to put them up and take them down though. I'd take the kayaks if heading south. I suggest you check the straps every time you stop to make sure they aren't loosening. We are fortunate that we have a sun roof in our truck so we can see the kayaks from inside.

I have an f150 as well. How does it affect your tongue weight? I just had air bags installed because I find the back end sags quite a bit even with weight distribution.
I pull my TT with a Suburban 2500 and I’m curious if you have had any trouble with your truck bed canopy hitting the bike tires or have had any concerns with clearance?
On really sharp turns, like sometimes when backing into a campsite the wheel of the bike will hit the truck cap. I've never noticed it when I'm actually driving the truck but I've seen it on video when I record myself backing in. The good thing is that there is a little give on the bike wheel on the rack, so it doesn't cause a problem. No damage to the bike or the truck cap.
I lock the bikes to the rack all the time. I wrap the lock through the bike frames then through the frame of the rack by the top of the tongue jack. You'd want about a 6 foot cable lock.
Yes it should. The bike is held by the wheels so the handlebars don't matter. I put the bikes opposite eachother so the handlebars don't hit eachother.
@@CampingwiththeColes yeah, and it’s not really close.. the bottom of the Jack still has about 6 inches to go. The power line joins a bunch of other ones under and is surrounded by a shealth.. think I’m gonna have to return the rack.
What brand is your adjustable ball hitch? Purchased at? Looks very solid. In process of getting an Express and the style rack your using was recommended by a dealer. Be awesome if you could use same rack in your truck receiver get dual use. Maybe I can invent one lol.

Nice vide. In my situation our 2018 F150’s tailgate was hitting the electric jack head. So we rotated it 90 degrees and the buttons now face the drivers side of the vehicle. I’m wondering if this would still work for us. What’s the space between the 2 risers?
I'm sorry but I don't have access to the trailer now as it's in winter storage, so I can't measure the space. Just from looking at the video again I know that the head of our electric jack wouldn't be able to fit between the two risers if it was put on like yours is. So if you have the same make jack as ours, it won't fit. If yours is different/smaller I don't know.
As long as you have a power jack that's bolted to the trailer with the 3 bolts (like most) it will fit. No drilling of holes. You take off the jack, put this on and put the bolts through the holes in the bike rack and jack.
I was with it until you pulled out of the driveway and it *looks* like the bike is very close to hitting your cap on your truck. I have the exact same cap and truck. How close does it come? Do you have to limit your turns backing in a trailer?
Yes, it is a sharp turn out of the driveway. The tire almost touches the cap of the truck. I have done sharper turns where the tire hit the cap but there is quite a bit of give on the tire/wheel of the bike when on the rack that it didn't cause any damage or concern. There is no concern at all if you have an open box or tonneau cover. I have been using it for a couple of year now and have never had any damage to my bikes or cap.
I’m trying to find out the measurement from where the piece of balls onto the trailer how tall it is just the first piece a Bolts on to the trailer jack that’s all I’m looking for the total height of that piece, thanks

I never really noticed that before until you pointed it out. It's a real sharp turn getting out of the driveway. It looks like it almost touches the cap of the truck. Even if it did touch I think there would be a fair amount of give with the bike and tire moving a bit. I haven't noticed any issue with the bikes or cap in terms of any damage.
You're not allowed to put more then two bikes on back of travel trailer and has to be RV rated with zero welds. They make rv hitch bike racks for a reason. You're not supposed to put just any bike rack on the rear of a trailer

You should check out Arvika bike racks. They're pretty expensive but they might be what you're looking for.
Very credible - I am very interested but have to see if the eighty lb Hensley Arrow hitch pushes my tongue weight too far if I add this rack.

That was a trial and error. I put the rear ones in lower holes than the front ones to offset the height of the bikes.
I was wondering if your F-150 has Pro Backup Assist and so, did you have trouble placing the checkered sticker on the trailer frame after installation of the Jack-It.
The truck has pro backup assist but with the trailer I have, the propane tank cover covers the area on the frame that the checked sticker is supposed to go so I never put them on. I don't use the Pro backup assist. I had a look at it and I can't see why the Jack-it would interfere with it.

Love your videos! We are just wondering about how you transport your kayaks? Do you use kayak brackets on your truck cap roof rack? Do any of your previous episodes show how you put your kayaks on and take them off your roof rack?
What are your thoughts about driving with kayaks in winter to head south?
We put roof racks on our cap when we first got it. We drilled right through the cap and used large washers on the inside when bolting them down. We then attached kayak racks to the roof rack. We were lucky enough to find ours at a garage sale where we got both sets for $10 but you can find them on Amazon amzn.to/3U6aD3d. We haven't shown the actual set up but we have recorded a few times where we are taking the kayaks off of the truck. You can see that in our Sauble Falls video at 14:20 th-cam.com/video/_jzMm9w9TyU/w-d-xo.html. I'm very pleased with them and have never had a negative issue. It's definitely a 2 person job to put them up and take them down though. I'd take the kayaks if heading south. I suggest you check the straps every time you stop to make sure they aren't loosening. We are fortunate that we have a sun roof in our truck so we can see the kayaks from inside.

What if you have a backup assist sticker on the trailer will it cover it?

I don't think it will affect the back up assist. The sticker isn't covered by any of it.
I've got 2 of the little Jetson electric bikes from Costco and I'm wondering if they'll fit on this mount.
I would think they would fit. The attachments are very adjustable. I can't be 100% sure though.
I have an f150 as well. How does it affect your tongue weight? I just had air bags installed because I find the back end sags quite a bit even with weight distribution.
I also added air bags for the same reason. I haven't measured the tongue weight though.
I pull my TT with a Suburban 2500 and I’m curious if you have had any trouble with your truck bed canopy hitting the bike tires or have had any concerns with clearance?
On really sharp turns, like sometimes when backing into a campsite the wheel of the bike will hit the truck cap. I've never noticed it when I'm actually driving the truck but I've seen it on video when I record myself backing in. The good thing is that there is a little give on the bike wheel on the rack, so it doesn't cause a problem. No damage to the bike or the truck cap.

I lock the bikes to the rack all the time. I wrap the lock through the bike frames then through the frame of the rack by the top of the tongue jack. You'd want about a 6 foot cable lock.

will this work with road bikes because of different handlebars?
Yes it should. The bike is held by the wheels so the handlebars don't matter. I put the bikes opposite eachother so the handlebars don't hit eachother.
How do you disconnect the power cord from the tongue Jack? My cord is too short to allow the tongue Jack to be removed.
Huh, I never ran into that issue. I guess you'd have to follow the cord back to see where it connects to the trailer and disconnect it there.
@@CampingwiththeColes yeah, and it’s not really close.. the bottom of the Jack still has about 6 inches to go. The power line joins a bunch of other ones under and is surrounded by a shealth.. think I’m gonna have to return the rack.
@@garrett7101 it's probably as simple as removing that cover and unscrewing the connector. It would be with a shot. Likely very simple.

What brand is your adjustable ball hitch? Purchased at? Looks very solid. In process of getting an Express and the style rack your using was recommended by a dealer. Be awesome if you could use same rack in your truck receiver get dual use. Maybe I can invent one lol.

Nice vide. In my situation our 2018 F150’s tailgate was hitting the electric jack head. So we rotated it 90 degrees and the buttons now face the drivers side of the vehicle. I’m wondering if this would still work for us. What’s the space between the 2 risers?
I'm sorry but I don't have access to the trailer now as it's in winter storage, so I can't measure the space. Just from looking at the video again I know that the head of our electric jack wouldn't be able to fit between the two risers if it was put on like yours is. So if you have the same make jack as ours, it won't fit. If yours is different/smaller I don't know.
I'm assuming this would fit on a 2022 Apex 265RBSS without having to drill holes etc?
As long as you have a power jack that's bolted to the trailer with the 3 bolts (like most) it will fit. No drilling of holes. You take off the jack, put this on and put the bolts through the holes in the bike rack and jack.

I was with it until you pulled out of the driveway and it *looks* like the bike is very close to hitting your cap on your truck. I have the exact same cap and truck. How close does it come? Do you have to limit your turns backing in a trailer?

Yes, it is a sharp turn out of the driveway. The tire almost touches the cap of the truck. I have done sharper turns where the tire hit the cap but there is quite a bit of give on the tire/wheel of the bike when on the rack that it didn't cause any damage or concern. There is no concern at all if you have an open box or tonneau cover. I have been using it for a couple of year now and have never had any damage to my bikes or cap.
I’m trying to find out the measurement from where the piece of balls onto the trailer how tall it is just the first piece a Bolts on to the trailer jack that’s all I’m looking for the total height of that piece, thanks
That piece is 26 1/4" tall. The inside height (max height your tongue jack can be) is 22 1/4". Hope that helps.

At 13:15 it looks like the bike wheel could hit the back of the truck or SUV. Does that happen often?
I never really noticed that before until you pointed it out. It's a real sharp turn getting out of the driveway. It looks like it almost touches the cap of the truck. Even if it did touch I think there would be a fair amount of give with the bike and tire moving a bit. I haven't noticed any issue with the bikes or cap in terms of any damage.
You're not allowed to put more then two bikes on back of travel trailer and has to be RV rated with zero welds. They make rv hitch bike racks for a reason. You're not supposed to put just any bike rack on the rear of a trailer

Yeah you have to be careful how you lift them to get them on. Best practice is to lower the tongue jack so that you don't have to lift as high.
