    I just started playing myself. I truly believe LOTRO emphasizes: it's the journey, not the destination. I've started slow, read the quest text, and honestly it really does feel like being in Middle Earth. I hope others can find the same joy I am in playing it.

      I love that point about the emphasis being on the journey and not the destination, because it's so true. Well I'm glad that you found the game, thanks for the comment!

    For someone who has played this game every single year regularly since it came out, I highly recommend it. It's been one of the best MMOs I've ever played, actually my first MMO, and I've met some of my best friends I've ever had on this game, still talk to most of them every day. Sure I liked the PvP most of all, and the story, and the raids, but my favorite aspect was just meeting awesome people to enjoy the lore and gameplay that is Lord of the Rings. Still happy to see that people like yourself are still posting videos about this game and promoting it.

      but can you pillar stun people in lotro? i think not mr anhur

    • @LegendaryAnorCem
      @LegendaryAnorCem 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      MyWolfbane You're right you can't pillar stun in Lotro. ;D Unless you pin their ass to a cappy flag. Lmao though, SMITE is a really fun game, play it a lot as well, and main Anhur if you couldn't tell. ;)

      Sid Jr That's all based on opinion. But you can lay down the facts such as, does WoW have more players? Yea, a ton more. However both games still give out content, so for me, as I've played both games, it was just a matter of preference. Lotro grabbed my attention just for the fact of it being a Lord of the Rings based game, because I adore the books aswell as the movies and it was just a nostalgic feel for me. My opinions comparatively to the games are this though: I feel the combat system is more fluid in lotro than in WoW. I feel that lotro has a unique PvP system in the sense of getting ranks for killing a certain amount of enemies by gaining points. However WoW has a nice ranked system that would be fun to see in Lotro. My last opinion would be that I feel like lotro just has more of an interactive storyline, gameplay wise.

    Great video! I was so into LOTRO when it launched, played it religiously for about 5 years, mostly in the Moors on Landroval. I loved being a warg so much! But the way they changed everything, questing for points, getting renown/infamy from npcs and not actual pvp, and the way that points got distributed equally in raids, making ranks meaningless, I just lost heart, and left. Now, 6 years later, I'm just coming back, and although the Moors will remain just a fond memory, the game itself touched me so much once I started playing again. It felt like I had come home. I've played a lot of MMOs, but none have the feel of belonging to a community the way LOTRO does. It's a very special game, with special people, and I don't think I'll ever leave again til the day it shuts down. I have the lifetime membership, after all :)

      I was charged only $200 for a lifetime VIP subscription for participation in the closed beta. I really feels like cheating, because that paid for itself ten times over by this point.

    • @synth_pulse3098

      @George Washington How many games do you buy? microtransactions? DLC? you can EASILY surpass $300 in a matter of two to three games. this person was smart and paid up the money to get NINE years worth of VIP status, free expansions, and all the things that come with it.

    Man ive played this game on and off since I was 9 years old. My Dad got me into this game and since he has loved Tolkien books since he was a kid, he was very happy to see they made a realistic middle earth game. Although he quit sometime after mirkwood came out I still play from time to time. I still show him how much the game has progressed.

      Costs! Holy cow man long time no see! I actually still have tons of old PvMP footage of the good old Moors days. God I miss it. Good to hear from you! Lotro should be around in 3 more years, but the problem is everyone ended up all over the place or servers I should say. Thanks for watching and dropping by!

    I tried this game when it first came out but couldn't get into it for whatever reason, but then I came back when it went free to play... this was around the time I was becoming burnt out with WoW. I will say like others have said the combat is slow and very old school.. I do not really enjoy the combat BUT when I finally gave it a chance I got sucked into the lore and the beauty of the game. I remember running around the shire just absolutely geeking out and just in awe of how amazing looking it was for such an old game. WoW will always be 'my' game but out of all the other MMO's I've tried, LOTRO will always hold a special place in my heart. If you're a LOTR fan and are looking for an immersive unique experience I'd say it's worth a look and hell, it's free to try so what's to lose except a little bit of time and space on your PC. :)

    Watching this is making me very nostalgic, great video. I completely agree about the Lotro community I have played so many MMORPGs and by far the best bunch of peeps I've met has been on Rings. I'd like to add another point that I think the Lotro today has done so much to raise the quality of life things in game, there's more player housing hooks, you can xfer toons from the launcher itself, added a new collections panel and you can even craft from within your home. Good stuff, subbed and looking forward to the issues vid.

    • @GRMAdrian
      @GRMAdrian  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment, I have to say that's a great point you've raised that I missed. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts =)

    It is very worth spending your time in this game, because it's LOTR and it's free, yes, you can aquire turbine points (TP) in-game and completing the same "deeds" (the thing to aquire TP haha) with different characters of your account (the TP are bond to acc) also very tiring so for our new friends, go and adventure with your main character. Very fun to play and earn TP with hard work in-game, but you better upgrade your account to vip, then you'll be a premium member (when vip ends) and have some really cool features forever in your account.
    Found this awesome game in nov 2011 and I still play sometimes.

    Ive had LOTRO since 2011, and while its a great game, ive never put a single cent into it. Im not a very serious player and ive been on and off countless times. The farthest character I have is a level 48 hunter and in the middle of the main story line in the misty mountains. Ive completed almost all the deeds and quests possible in previous areas. My question is, is it worth putting more into the game and getting the payed subscription at the moment for someone like me?

    • @superduperfreakyDj
      @superduperfreakyDj 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well depends on how much you play. If you only a few hours a month then obviously you are wasting money but if you play a couple of hours a week a subscription could come in handy.

    • @thorbeorn4295
      @thorbeorn4295 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I still don't get it, lol... I bought a VIP for a month, way back in 2016. I unlocked zones like Forochel, Misty Mountains, Angmar, etc (I guess it unlocks every zone to Moria?, I'm currently level 46 so idk.) However, I recently returned, and since I'm not a VIP no more, I can't quest in said areas :O I thought once I unlocked them, they were available for me permanently? :O.....

    • @supersora1995
      @supersora1995 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Toby Gunn No, vip grants you access for the non-expansion quests only for the duration of the subscription. However you can buy said questpacks in lotro store with marks which will unlock them permanently.

    If you choose, you can play completely for free. When joining a new server, more than likely you have two character slots. Do deeds in the Shire, Ered Luin, Bree-Land, and the Lone-Lands. At some point, you will have enough lotro points to unlock a new zone or a character slot. Either works, because you can do more deeds. I suggest you add more character slots (up to about four or five total slots) first then unlock new zones. Do deeds on new characters, unlock new zones. Rinse/repeat.
    A hunter as your main gathering character (explorer) can gather ore, wood, and leather. The best reason to choose hunter is mobility of the hunter class. Campfire fellowship travel (Return to camp skill), Guide To... fellowship travel (Guide to skill), and fast out of combat run speed skill (Huntsman; blue spec tree) allow hunter class a gathering advantage over other classes. A gathering character is almost a necessity, especially if you plan on having alt characters to cover all seven crafts/crafting guilds and produce Legendary Items, relics (ie essences), jewelry, weapons, armor, trail food, battle lore pages, potions, tools, and all the other extras that really become necessary as you progress towards end-game content.

    I really do like the overall design and feel of the game but my issue is that I play a few other MMOs I'm heavily committed to (most notably, RuneScape and Elder Scrolls Online, the former of which requires a pretty decent amount of grind to get anywhere), and I find myself having less and less time and drive to dedicate to games and particularly games with grind, as grind is the most boring thing I've ever encountered in gaming. I have two characters on LOTRO, both of which are low levels, but I do have to say I have enjoyed my time in the game thus far except for the grind.
    That being said, if I had more time or if there was less grind, I'm sure I'd be able to really delve into it and enjoy it a lot more.

    • @GRMAdrian
      @GRMAdrian  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts Jacob, I appreciate it. Having played quite a few MMOs, I've learned to tolerate the level grind (I assume that's what's bothering you the most) but with Lotro, it does required that time investment and things will get better in time. Compared to the grind in other MMOs, where the grind is just there for the sake of a blatant pay wall or time sink.

    • @jakobfel2
      @jakobfel2 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Game Reviews Malaysia Good point, and I probably could tolerate some level grind if one of the MMOs I'm really committed to (RuneScape) wasn't one of the grindiest games out there haha. Yeah, level grind without rewarding gameplay during or after the grind is the worst in my book. I wish there was a better way for character leveling (and this goes for every MMORPG) that didn't require any monotonous gameplay.
      That being said, your video really made me want to hop back into LOTRO. I'll have to get back in, I haven't logged in since shortly after the server merge so it's been a little while. My best character is like a level 22 elf loremaster, I got there thanks to the fellowship I was in at the time. Very great community to the game, I have to agree. So thanks for this video, I'll have to download the updates and start playing again!

    I really do hope that LOTRO will stay alive for many years to come as I adore this game. I'm not really big on MMORPG's but this game really hit it on the head for me. But what I love most about this game is that even if you're not really in it for the xp, theres still ways to enjoy the game by just wandering around immersing your self with in the world. The best thing I ever did way back then was pony up for the Founders Sub. Being a big fan of Tolkien the buy in was a no brainer. I figured at worst I might be a year or so before it folded but here we are 9 years and counting. I always come back to see the new stuff and try and remember how to play my chars but I will say one thing you hit the nail on the head with the music and the locations. My first char back then was a hobbit hunter and I remember finally making it to Rivendell and just sitting by the waterfalls listening to the music and watching the scenery. The animal (deer, rabbit, etc) interaction with the environment was top notch back that and still is. Want a relaxing get a way? Head out to Elrond's and just enjoy the ambiance. :) You got another follower!

    Hey man, I appreciate your top 10 reasons for getting back into the game, as well as this video. I was an AVID, OBSESSED player since day 1 launch, and played from '07 - '11. It's funny, for some reason, the game was calling me back after 6 years... and sure enough it was the 10 year anniversary! I was a hardcore Lore-Master player, and was dedicated to a server called Arkenstone. I was hoping to play with a friendly, helpful guild for new-vets, and you seem like a great guy. What's your server, what's your guild, and what's your name(s) in the game? Thanks for your time.

    • @GRMAdrian
      @GRMAdrian  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! Thanks for letting me know! As far as I can tell Arkenstone is still alive and well, in fact it's the largest US server now. I'm on Landroval, but alas I am not in a kinship. I play solo these days as I jump around MMOs alot to make content for the channel. But if you are looking at Landroval, it's a great server with lots of community events and friendly guilds. I say give it a shot if you plan to start over!

    I just jumped back into LOTRO after they launched the legendary servers to progress through all the old content and expansions again. Perfect time for new or returning players to get back in to the game. You do have to sub to play on the legendary server, but the population is large and there are players everywhere so i feel like it's more than worth it to get to relive all the old raids and dungeons.

    This was so well put! I play LOTRO on and off, and when it's on, it's on. I have played the game all day every day many times. I never really understood why it lost so many players, except that they were playing MMO, not playing Lord of the Rings, if you get my meaning. I tried a few other MMO's over the years and none of them added up to LOTRO, in gameplay or graphics. My only issue comes later in the game ~ after Rohan area, where the region detailing looks a lot like it was made in MSPaint? Other than that, the game has never ceased to have something to do, and is a complete optional grind.

    • @catwoman1263
      @catwoman1263 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      One of the reasons that the player base SEEMS low is because of the ENORMOUS world that the population is spread across. One person said that Lotro has 30,000 square miles of game map; in comparison, WoW has only 80 square miles. So, WoW's population is crammed into a much smaller area, so you see more people all the time.

      Hi Oliver! Regions are not blocked by a paywall, you can enter all regions and finish the main story quests. Unfortunately, if you want to do the regional quests and deeds then yes you will need to buy the regions aka questpacks. They go for anywhere between 500-795 Turbine Points, but keep an eye out for sales, they happen often. Finishing all deeds in the 2 free regions you get will net you a decent amount of Turbine Points as well.

    The game may have its shortcomings, more than a few, but the story, the ethos, and the community one may reasonably say that are second to none. The art style, design, details, and in general the overall imagery, immersion, and 'feel' of LotRO, has proven to be timeless, just like the quality of the source - of Tolkien's legendary world. Still holding up impressively, even for the standards of the mmos of these days. A great jewel of older times still shining bright.

      Cheers thanks for the comment, I'm glad your characters are still there! And I know that feeling, I refuse to kick kin members out even after years in the hope they return. Ah the nostalgia.

    Few MMOs live up to their RPG part and this is a rare exeption. LOTRO offers enough ways to roleplay both direct, like rich questing, and more subtle social features like cosmetics, music etc.
    Though I stopped playing after russian servers shut down I have a deepest respect for LOTRO and Turbine.
    Thanks for the video. It made me nostalgic =)

      You are most welcome Alexander, thanks for watching and for the comment! Someday I'm sure you'll jump back in, the remaining 10 servers will be happy to have you. I'm hearing Brandywine has a large population of Russian players now =)

      Due to thechnical issues they were unable to transfer characters, progression and, most notably, purchases from russian servers so having to buy all the stuff I had once again and for considerably greater price (regional prices, inflation etc) put a stop on the idea. I moved to another Turbine title instead - DDO =)

    I stopped playing the game about 1 1/2 years ago, simply because i was rather too busy and too uninterested in progressing further in the game, leaving my character to himself at level 30. Possibly ill pick it back up, afterall, one thing i loved the most is just the atmosphere. And as you said, the music does that so well, i still once in a while listen to it and it brings up memories off me wasting my life infront of a cheap computer screen.

    Loved this game, It was my first MMO that I played. I pre-ordered and bought a Life Time account at the very beginning so there was no subscription but somewhere along the way the moved all the servers or accounts or something happened where I lost my lifetime account and my characters when it went free to play. It was amazing to be able to walk around middlearth, loved the graphics at the time but they are dated now. Would have loved it they added modern textures to it. I still remember beating the balrog, and the really really annoying watcher in the water battle.

      Hey there, thanks for the comment and I'm sorry to hear about your lifetime account. Yeah the graphics are somewhat dated but even while I do play newer MMOs, Lotro's graphics has never really bothered me. It's kind of weird considering I do take into consideration a game's graphical fidelity when I review games!

    My gf and I came to LOTRO from DandO and, well, Second Life. We've been here for a couple of weeks and have already gone VIP. I have 4 characters, and she has 3. We love the graphics and the music! sometimes, when your character is training, learning their crafting skills, and maintaining their day-to-day lives in-game, it gets hard to remember that there are quests that need to be run and deeds to be completed, and that this is all background for what's happening in the books. I think the one peeve we have is that this is our escape from the daily crap of real life and no matter when we come in, there is always politics and rl crap being talked about. Other than that... I love the idea behind it about all the "little people" trying to survive day by day as the main story unfolds often in distant lands. One of my characters is an explorer class, and that is pretty much what he does - goes out to the areas people don't like and looks around. The scenery is well done. There are other issues becides general chat, but I haven't found any that would make us leave.

      Hi Steve, thanks very much for sharing! Aye, LOTRO is one of those games that just rewards that type of play style. I do get what you mean about World chat however. You can turn it off or unsubscribe from the world chat so you won't have to read all the nonsense that goes in there. Otherwise, glad to hear you're having a blast!

      Hey, Steve, first off, welcome to Lotro to you and your gf! Not sure what server you're on, but if in the US, may I recommend trying out the Gladden server? Yes, we have our politic/religion/rl trolls on there as well occasionally, but for the most part, Gladden is a very friendly and helpful server. If you come visit, my Woman Loremaster, Alsbet, will say hi! Glad you found us; hope you're enjoying the game. :-)
