I am in no way a purist, but am in complete agreement with you. Most of those people were just a bunch of crows cackling to hear the sound of their own voice.
Actually I like this, as it allows you to not have to worry about adding it up yourself. It gives easier calculations. The place where I bowl doesn't even give the 30,60,90...etc. when you are bowling a 300 game. No score numbers at all. It is annoying.
It does that yes, but that's where you have to remember that the way the bowling format works, there is a little bit of difference between the players. Don't take this the wrong way, but for some people who don't understand how to do the calculations for the scores, they don't know what the actual score is. This is not talking about you, since I don't know you. But I do know how to do the calculations, and so it makes it easier for me with this scoring graphic. Less calculations.
It's a shame what a small crowd these PBA events have....In the 70's there would have been 3000 people in attendance....even for PBA50 ! A great sport is now dead ! In my city there were 40 bowling alleys in the 1970's...now there are 7....including the suburbs ! The game is now a joke ! UNFORTUNATELY ! When a 300 is equal to a 239 in the 70's , no wonder the lack of support !
Robert - This tournament's stepladder was the Tuesday after Memorial Day. Harvest Park Bowl is a small bowling center (32 lanes) in Brentwood, a community with just the one center. While I was there Sunday and Monday, I imagine those who have a regular 9 to 5 were back at work Tuesday.

No offense to the guys out on the regular tour but these PBA50 matches are SO much more enjoyable to watch. The skills these guys have are amazing

Typically easier? WAY easier. Frankly, boring. Not one single ball out of the pocket the entire match, really. That's silly.

Bowlers don't get much sun. It shows later in life with no sun damage wrinkles and spots. .

Norm Duke does not change balls every game like alot of these guys do. He just adjusts his spot and speed.

It's like the Waste Management Phoenix Open in golf. It's OK to have rowdy bunch once a year, but not on the regular.
The scoring graphic is annoying. I've never seen a system track like that.

You also have to remember that one player is always going to be one frame ahead, making it seem like they are ahead, when in reality that aren't.
