    Hans is the best. You are so correct about him watching the FedEx and then give you a call to make sure the fish arrived safely. He was great. Thank you Hans.

    The video is quite helpful. Thanks to Hans for the beautiful discus! It seems that Hans really cares about his fish and his customers. All of my new discus are happy and are coming to the front of the tank. They are beautiful, healthy fish and very interactive. Will order from you again soon.
    Look forward to next video!

    Awesome series. All of your videos are excellent, but I really enjoyed this one. It's great to get a behind the scenes look at Hans's facility and his opinions on discus keeping. He's the resident expert. Great job on the angel fish series also, great stuff!

    What a Gem I found on TH-cam!! Thank you, thank you so much for uploading these! (And, yes, some crazies out there are still subscribing to your videos from 5 years ago - that's how awesome your channel is!) Thank you for all the great work you've done!

    I bought Discus from Hans. They arrived in great health and after they acclimated to my tank they began to feed and are doing very well right now. I would recommend anyone who want nice Discus to get them from Hans!

    Thanks for posting this! I am in the process of making decisions on buying discus for the first time. I've always wanted them, but have been so concerned about taking care of them. Tank is setup and ready. Now I just need to take that step and get my fish! :)

    I got a box of discus from Hans. He always replied to my e-mails and treated me very well. Great guy. Funny thing is my Neons and Cardinals get ick when the lights flicker in the house. Discus are a great fish. Do weekly OR MORE water changes and you will be fine. FYI My water is on the acid side at the tap. Thanks for doing these videos!

    Hans has your dream tank in his shop. I didn't show it because I don't think he has lights on it (or he had them turned off). Its 200 gals and full of driftwood and big ole Discus, amazing!!!

  • @KGTropicals
    @KGTropicals  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Breeders use 20 gallons for the pairs to spawn in but its not a good size for raising them in if that makes sense. Usually the breeders will raise the fry in much larger tanks then once they are grown they'll put a pair in a 20 gallon.

    For the first time Discus keeper I can't stress enough that you'll have your best luck with fish from Hans. I've kept Discus for years from just about everywhere and NONE of them compare to his. I'm not just saying it because hes a friend. I believe in his product, I sell his product and would recommend them to anyone. Make sure you tell him you saw him on this video:-)

    Amazing interview with Hans, Great information. I've been told by a local store (Peterborough England UK).
    I would have to use RO water, instead of using my normal tap water and adding certain chemicals to soften it.
    The water I have is Lime/Chalk water. So very hard. I have even cleaned and changed the substrate from gravel to sand.
    Following advice from one shop. another has different advice leaving me a little confused.

    I was just there and got 10 discus, cant be more happy. An hour after putting them in my tank they were looking at the top for food and ate. My go to food is tetra xl granules, every single discus ate them off the bottom. Cant be more happy with my fish, or the experience of talking to Han.

      PS. he even took the box of fish to my car, almost as if he wanted to say one last goodbye to his little friends. Seriously if you havent gone there and youre in the discus hobby, you need to check it out. Offered me a can of soda too. The man loves his fish and also his customers. Show him some respect and he will open his knowledge to you, we talked for 2 hours, nobody else was in the shop so we both took time to admire some of those fish. Some like dinner plates good lord

    I've read the same thing about Discus, and that you should to place the tank accordingly. (e.g. Concrete floor is much preferred over a second story wood floor). Hans' Discus sure didn't seem to mind the overhead BWI jets though!

    how many water changes do i have to do if i get 2.5-3 inch discus? I've heard that the first week you do daily 40% changes then the second week you do every other day 35% changes and then go to your normal scedule. is this true? or can i start every other day the first week then go to once a week? this is the only thing i am confused on.

    His ph is about 7.4 to 7.6. It is not true that you need a very low ph it should not be thrue the roof but this blood line of Diskuszucht stendker has adjusted to the ph levels. I have a 90 gallon discus tank and I got all of them from hans.

    Hans breeds some gorgeous discus. My lfs sells his discus and every time I go in there they're staring at me thru the tank lol. But I will buy mine straight from Hans instead of him shipping them to the lfs i.e aquatic critter Nashville tn and me going to pick them up few days later. To me that stressed the fish out. A stressed fish is more prone to getting sick etc and that's no fun.

    He didn't say the amount of water changes, is it 30% each week like normal fish? or alot of discus forums talk about different amounts of water changes E.g 50% everyday some others say 30% every 2 days ect... for me personally I change the discus tank ever couple of days with 2 or so buckets which would probably give around 40% each week but in small amounts during the week(every other day)

    No disrespect to Hans but I got some discus from him that did very well and my live plants LOVE large water changes. I've got a low tech 120 gallon tank which you can check out on my channel. I am an amature fishkeeper with 4 tanks from 5 gall to 120 gallon. My fish seem to be doing well and am have a mated pair of angels that just had their first breeding. I would love to keep discus but like many people am a little afraid to try. The worry is that even though I can work with most of my water paramaters our water here is very hard. Would discus be able to thrive in this or would it be unfair to the fish to attempt to keep them?

    • @sagrath1982
      @sagrath1982 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Judith Peavler you should get your discus breaded from your place where you, if you order from some where else it's going to be harder to keep due the water conditions in y he water, I've hear some people breeded discus with tap water with no problem at all

    Harry, it's more the surrounding your Discus are in, dark gravel and back ground can bring out "speckles" on your pigeon types. Blue Diamond is not a pigeon so will never show it.
    Stendker pigeons are known to be very clean.

    @HansDiscus 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    TDA (don't want to call you DrunkenAlcoholic lol) 10% + 10% + 10% + 10% is not a 40% water change. Water change all depends on how many Discus, what sizes and most important: how much food do you trow in the tank, most of the time the Discus doesn't make the tank dirty, it's the owner by trowing a lot of food in. If I do a water change, it's about 30-40% of the system, don't use buckets lol lol One of the next movies will show how. I do this about every other day.
