    ... Cool Series.. I'm not really planning to breed or even keep Discus, but its good information and in this hobby more knowledge is a benefit to your own fish...oh and when I get the "Discus Fever" ... they will be Stendker Discus from Hans.. Thanks John

    My friend has a pair of red turquois in a 55 gallon tank, and it is not that much work to raise discus. Yeah he does more partial water changes, He feeds them freshly hatched brine shrimp for two weeks, but otherwise the small fish start eating the discus mix that my friend prepares by himself after just a couple of weeks. Hans keeps them in 20 gallon tanks, and yes that will create a lot more work due to quickly changing water quality.

    Ginny yes use ro/di water and adjust the ph to where you want it in this case 6.5 is a good start for discus

    Is that galvinized hardware cloth covering the cone? I guess there's not an issue with the zink leeching into the water?

    Hello
    I am not able to keep the PH in my breeding tank stable at 6.5. It will change within 24 hours.All the eggs will be white in no time!Any help greatly appreciated.SHould i use RO water?

    • @elijahdail431
      @elijahdail431 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Discus need soft and acidic water. If you are using only tap water and your ph and hardness is not in your desired area, you can change temporarily. I would switch to RO.

    I have a breeding pair,6 inches blue pigeon male and a 5 inches red Turquoise female that have been spawning continuously every 5 to 8 days for about a month and a half now.What happened was the eggs sometimes hatch and a couple of days fry disappear or eggs few times didn't hatch and they turned white and ended up at the bottom of the bare tank base.I can only assume that my tank conditions are in top maintenance level with partial water change every other day( 2 times a week) and my discus appear in excellent shape and active.Still I am trying to gather some great ideas on how to manage a successful batch of breeds.Please to hear from anyone with suggestiions.

    Do you know how I can get those breeding cones and screens?

    • @sky032547
      @sky032547 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Grant Taylor the cones you can buy off ebay they are made by company in europe JBL discus cones, the screen is made of a "chicken mesh screen" you can buy those at Homedepot, you just have to cut it to size you want and then what I do, I just close it up with some zip ties.

      Discus are flexible 5.8 to 6.5 would be okay even a neutral 7.0 your main focus should be having clean water, if ph is your concern cure some driftwood and get an r.o. unit

    my discus has spawned on the filter in my community tank i wasn't expecting it. I don't even know who did it. Obviously 1 is fanning them so i presume that's the female.
    I think i will need to find a way to separate them from the other fish.
