Here's a little bit about the songs:
MIC Drop was a song that was originally on their album Love Yourself: Her (2017). The original version is more hiphop, while this remix which was released later in the same year is more EDM (and has more English lyrics). Like you said, this song is a message to the haters. This was when BTS really started to get international recognition. They performed their song DNA (title track for Love Yourself: Her) for the first time in the United States at the AMAs.
Spring Day was the title track for their album YOU NEVER WALK ALONE (2017), a repackage album for their studio album WINGS (2016). RM and Suga wrote the song thinking about their old friends that have gone separate ways. But like you said, the MV is full of symbolism and can be interpreted in different ways. The MV especially has a lot of references to the Sewol Ferry Tragedy that took place in 2014.
IDOL was the title track of their album Love Yourself: Answer (2018). Like you said, the MV is very over the top because it is about accepting and embracing oneself. They are taking in all the comments from the haters and proudly embracing and displaying them. The MV uses a lot of CGI and green screen because they've been hated on for using them. The song has traditional Korean sounds on top of a South African beat because they've been hated on for becoming "too westernized". Even the members' outfits and small details like the filters that were on RM are all reflective of the comments they used to receive. All of this reflects the theme of the album Love Yourself: Answer, the final album of the Love Yourself trilogy, which states that in order to love someone or something, you first need to love yourself.

BTS never confirmed that the song is about the incident. They said it’s just a song about a sad incident and a song about longing for someone. This can be interpreted so many different ways. Plus this song released almost 3 years after the ferry incident. Why wait so long? There’s no question the MV is about it but I don’t think the song itself was written about the incident.

As someone mentioned, Spring Day us a song RM wrote in honor of the victims and survivors of the tragic Sewol ferry accident where over 300 people died, most of them being high school kids around the age of the members at the time😢 There is an explanation video of the song in relation to the tragedy made by Italian Armies, so you’ll gave an easier time following it. It’s very sad and sometimes painful to watch, but it’s important to understand the song and MV better.

A tiny quibble about your comment, which I think may perhaps be shorthand, but if so is misleading.
RM did not write the song like that. He wrote it in a park in the Autumn and was watching the falling leaves, writing about missing a friend who he had been unable to meet for a long time, longing to meet him again. Back at the company they decided to change it falling petals in the Spring, but the song remains about his longing for the friend.
It is now indelibly associated by the Sewol Ferry, because of the MV, which contains many references to the event, but no BTS member will say the song is about this. Given the blacklisting of those who spoke out, that may be significant even now. BUT, they will most certainly have approved it in full knowledge of the symbols, which was bloody brave, as were all the other actions they took in private at the time.

This is not correct. RM and Suga wrote the song about personal experiences with lost friendship, they have explained this many times. The MV was used as a tribute, but it is not what the song was written about.
@@Maraaha55 People commonly mistaken the political environment of Korea at the time of Spring Day's release. The president had already been impeached and was heading out of office and to jail and all of Korea was celebrating when this song came out. There was no "blacklisting" happening at that time. BTS were found on the leaked blacklist, but it was from other songs and private donations they made in the past, it had nothing to do with Spring Day.
They have spoken many times what the song is about and the company has confirmed the MV's connection as a tribute and memorial.

Spring Day is a beautiful song with a beautiful message that can really reach million of people for different reasons. The song was written by RM and Suga as they thought back on memories they had of lost friends. RM said that writing this song is what inspired him to reach back out to friends that he had been missing and gave him the confidence to go for it. Suga wrote this song about someone who was his dearest friend. Their relationship ended on rough terms and he tells about missing him and thinking about those complex feelings of nostalgia, grief, sorrow, and anger that comes with a broken relationship. He wrote another song "Dear My Friend", which is on his second mixtape, about the same friend.
The music video for the song was separately inspired by and giving memorial to the victims of the Sewol Ferry Tragedy. This is what really lead the song to take off and become pretty famous in South Korea. It still stays on the charts today, some six years later. They have also since dedicated the song to high school seniors of 2020 when they sang it at the TH-cam graduation and to their fans for Tiny Desk Concert.
I love this song because of how powerful it is and how it can be relatable to so many people. I know many people who are reminded of lost ones, some who think of old friends, some who think of the ferry tragedy, and many other reasons to love this song.

Yeah the fit in Mic Drop is insane. A lot of the clothes are from a Japanese streetwear company Mastermind - really, really expensive. Now when they do Mic Drop in concert they do add one small refrain at the end where they do a dance break (mainly body rolls).
Spring Day is a special song and mv. It is actually about the 2014 Sewol Ferry accident where 306 people were killed, with 250 being high school students on a field trip. There are two other Kpop mvs remembering Sewol - One of these Nights by Red Velvet and The Light by The Ark.
As for Idol, there is so much symbolism in the mv (for instance, the rabbit in the moon is a symbol for good luck). DKDKTV has a great video explaining all the symbols in Idol. Btw, there is a second mv with Nicki Minaj adding a rap verse - and the video ends with Army around the world doing the Idol challenge.

Luna, a must see explanation video for Spring Day by an Italian army is the most moving explanation video made. RM wrote this song because he was missing his old friends whom he hadn’t seen for a long time due to their packed schedule. When BTS made the mv of this song they did it in honor of all those who drowned in the Sewol Ferry tragedy. Over 300 people died and 250 were high school students who were told by the crew to stay where they are. The tragedy happened because of greed and the Korea’s president and government officials trying to cover up the incident. The coast guards were there but they were told to do nothing and to prevent others from trying to rescue the passengers. The Italian army researched thoroughly and have clips of the event in her video. You can’t watch the explanation video without being emotionally bonded. I also recommend watching the explanation video by DKDK for Idol because of all the cultural references and why they made the video the way they did. BTS is so creative when you watch the explanation video. Love your BTS journey! Borahae

It's one of their most confusing pieces, but you got to the right conclusion.
You should DEFINITELY watch the Italian Army's explanation video to the MV, I remember I started crying its 2nd minute when I haven't even heard the song or seen the MV yet..
Long story short, it's about the 2014 Sewol Ferry Tragedy, in which more than 300 students died due to the captain and the ship crew telling them to stay in their places and don't try to escape while they themselves did so. The government tried to cover it up and put everyone, including BTS on a secret blacklist, who spoke up about it. I don't remember everything about Omelas (I should watch the explanation video again haha), but it's another reference to a novel written by Ursula K. Le Guin, called "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas". The plot is about a utopian city, Omelas, whose prosperity depends on the perpetual misery of a single child.
Honestly the whole tragedy is so insane and there are a lot of details in the MV, the washing machines, the pile of clothes, the clock on the wall, the little yellow ribbons on the carousel and the dying flame...and so much more, it's done in such an unbelievably genius way... I truly recommend that guide (but prepare a lot of tissues).
And this is why Spring Day is called the Queen of kpop, or the Queen of BTS. The song was released in February of 2017 and to this day IT IS STILL CHARTING on Melon's top 100 weekly chart (currently number 62)! The Rolling Stone Magazine has named it the 6th greatest kpop song of all time like a week ago.

With the motifs: winter, spring, time, change, and the phrase “I miss you”, this song touches on the bitter taste of missing the times and memories with a person. This is juxtaposed with the present and how the two have separated and changed over time with one trying to reach the other
When the song was released, many connected it to the 2014 Sewol Ferry disaster, a disaster where 304 individuals had drowned in a capsized ferry traveling to a resort on Jeju island, 250 of them being high schoolers. As they were waiting for the help that never came, the captain and some crew members left and told the students to stay and wait for officials who would not make it in time to save them
The visual imagery from the music video has guided listeners to make this assumption. As scenes from the train tracks, laundry machines, and merry-go-round show viewers the survivors’ guilt and how maybe they will grow older, but many of those on the ship never will.
Then there are the references to Snowpiercer and the pile of clothing that appears throughout the music video. Snowpiercer is a movie set on a futuristic Earth. The movie contains messages on corruption and injustice and the systems which keep many of those in lower socioeconomic status at the bottom, while those at the top live lavishly

The pile of clothing has a meaning as well. It’s a reference to an art piece, created by Christian Boltanski, called "Personne (or people), but at the same time no one". The clothes represent the people who are no longer with us with their clothes being left as the last remaining piece of who they are. Young, and old, they all met the same terrible faith and that is Boltanski’s message. It’s a message of mourning
The group hace been asked whether it was about the Sewol Ferry disaster and they answered that it was about a sad event, but it was also about longing.
That message of longing is expressed in the first words uttered in the song.

Rather than anger, rather than hurt, or even rather than tragedy being expressed first, it is the longing that appears first.
And if one does look at this song through the lens of the incident, that longing is the grief of never seeing a loved one again which is the foundation of the song
“Spring Day” has not left Gaon’s Digital Charts since its release and is still making records. However, one of the legacies this song leaves is that it’s a retelling of love and loss, and grief in the aftermath of a sad event

As always, great reviews. There are videos out there that explain it give theories about the BTS mv storylines. You are so in-depth, I think you would really find it interesting.
I think at some point it will be fun for you to go back and see some of their live videos of their debut era. See their history and how they performed in the beginning.
Whenever you get to the song, “Run BTS”, please consider reacting to the dance practice, a live performance AND the mv. Same with “Fire”. They are both strong songs, on the scale of “ON”.
Just have to give my two cents about accepting apologies. I’m an elderly woman (68) and this is one area I disagree with you on. People make mistakes in their lives and it’s important not to give them a life sentence for mistakes. People can, and do change and grow. I don't want to act like a spokesperson for the whole fandom but I can confidently say that we generally LOVE longer reaction videos and people that take the time to really understand the message and not just listen to the song and get it over with. So if you ever want to do something like maybe watching the music video first, and then behind the scenes/making of the music video, an explanation video, and a live performance of the song all in one go i can assure you that we would love to see that and even if it takes like an hour long video to react to just one song, we wouldn't mind it, and it could help you get a better understanding of each song (because there is always SO much stuff going on and there is a lot to take in!!)
BTS members all have solo songs as well, and I wanted to suggest, maybe you can dedicate one day for each member and react to a bunch of their solo songs too? :) I would be happy to give you recommendations for each member!

Spring Day has a lot of meaning behind it, the clothes mountain is actually a reference to an exhibition by Christian Boltanski about the Shoah victims and the meaning behind the clothes are that clothes are second skin and they represent the lives lost that day. There are also small references to the Sewol ferry disaster that claimed the lives of over 300 people and 261 of them were students from Danwon High School and some bodies have never been recovered, so the shoes that washed up on shore is a small reference to that. BTS always have a deeper meaning to their music. 💜💜 The explosion in Mic Drop is real, there’s a behind the scenes making of the video, of course some CGI is involved but it’s very rare and they prefer to keep it as real as possible. 😊 you hit the nail on the head with IDOL and the meaning behind it that’s why the video is so wacky it’s them saying we can do what we want and we will still be ourselves.

Idol is actually hilarious. It's full of sarcasm 😛.
They were made fun of for being too Westernized (kpop wasn't mainstream in the west at that time, they were the first to break through with MIC DROP), so they made a song with Korean traditional instruments and traditional clothings, symbolism, dance, chants.
They were made fun of using CGI which is in fact false there were no CGI's in their videos prior to this one, so they made this video they were like ' i'll show you what's CGI is'
But this song is more of acceptance even if they are still true hiphop rappers they can't deny that they are also idols so instead of fearing that other side they came to embrace their identity which is both.
This came out as single for their love myself:answer album. So it's understandable they need to love who they are is the real answer.
