I do wonder how Frieren's elf years scales to human years. If 10 years is less than 1/100 of her lifespan..... Assuming humans live to 100 years old (IRL it's closer to 80), 1 year = 1/100 of a human's lifespan. So maybe the scale is anywhere after 1/100? Maybe 1 elf year = 500 human years? That kinda works. From the time Flamme died to the present (and when Frieren last met Serie), it's only been 2 years for Frieren. The journey with the heroes was only 7 days for her. The sealing of Qual (80 human years) has only been 57 days.
@@Un1234l all elves seem to know they will die eventually, but they don't seem to have a defined lifespan, the closest definite info we have being Serie saying they live for "closer to an eternity." Frieren's statement about 1/100th of her life wasn't about her lifespan but how long she had lived so far (i.e. she is over a thousand years old).
4:00 she failed the ones that had no drive or nothing special about them, and the third was the mana detection that all the ones up to Fern didn't even notice it. Also they want to keep the standards of the first-class mage up and most of the ones that failed weren't up to the level, if you watch them through the exam they mostly got carried by the ones that passed more or less. Why they passed Ubel - Fearless and unfazed by the mana Fern - Powerful mage with potential Land - just the brass balls to send a shadow clone to do the test for him Wirbel - is indifferent to magic Methode - has a elf fetish
i definitely prefer that idea for methode but it was probably the fact that instead of instinctive fear of serie's mana she instead was like "what a cutie"
Damn, I just realized why Fern chose, "a spell to make clothes clean and spotless". In a past episode Frieren considered, "a spell to remove mold and a spell to remove tough oil stains" to be legendary, Fern even says, "those spells are so convenient they changed my world". Frieren is definitely influencing Fern's view of magic the way Flamme did for her by wanting everyone to be able to use "simple/everyday" magic. In their eyes those are "legendary spells", to Serie they're useless and foolish spells.
An arms race to get better and better at destroying each other is a race to the bottom. But magic that focuses on performance and convenience just builds and builds forever, a slow and steady rise of living standards.
Its sadly even simpler than that. Freiren said Methode smells nice. So Fern got jealous and got a spell to make her smell nice so Freiren wants more Fern hugs and piggy backs.
Ubel didn't know Land's secret because after the first test she approached him in town and said "i see you don't use a clone while walking around in town, is that safe?' so she thought it was the real him
my dude is on a whole nother level to be able to trick someone into thinking that a clone was his real self from that far away, must be some insane fidelity
@@dankerbell the lengths he goes to making it look like the real him is crazy too. Land's clone was bleeding out and he was dedicated to commit through the act that that was the real him until his "real body" was forced to save Ubel.
Yes, Lernen's favourite magic is the golem and he created the escape golem for the second exam (Sense even name dropped him but without showing his identity). He is probably the strongest living human mage currently, being able to see through Frieren's mana supression in a single glance (something Denken and Methode couldn't), his attack easily broke through defensive magic and in the manga he just used one blast to break through at least 2 layers of it effortlessly and his golems have escape and healing capabilities.
I don't think Lernen wanted to defeat Frieren in order to gain fame or recognition from Serie. I think he wanted to defeat Frieren so that Serie would have another name conected to her, and one which is more recent than that of Flamme. Serie is the last Great Mage of the Mythical Era, she is so beyond the common folk that it is safe to say that most people don't know she exists, so when she said to Lernen that he was a disapointment because he didn't went into history, I think what he listened was "I trained another person who failed to come to the height of magic like me, and thus I continue alone". So, I think what he really wanted was what he said to Frieren: "I don't want her to be alone". And the point that Frieren made was basically: "she don't care about that shit, son, chill out". I really like Lernen's character and the idea that he is a well-mannered soft threat xD
That's also how I interpreted it! Flammes been dead so long she's a fairy tale, ppl doubt she ever existed at this point in time. As time goes on, she'll fade even further to where no one will even be talking about her.
For fun reference, Prestidigitation is a cantrip (0 level spell) in D&D, and one of the things it can do at will is clean soiled clothes. In that context I feel like Serie xD
Well Ackchually! It’s Better than prestidigitation because the clean laundry spell actually cleans the clothes while prestidigitation cantrip is an illusory effect and wears off after 1 hour.
Its crazy how almost everyone forgets... the more you talk to Ubel, the better the chance for her to steal your spell. Why do you think Serie said literally nothing? She's a living grimiore, and Ubel learning any % of her spells is devastating. Serie is absolutely smart too, with the best instinct for knowing a person... except herself lol.
Not really, Ubel needs to see a spell and then empathize with the person who used it to figure out how they did it. She doesn't just miraculously learn someone's spells by talking to them. Look at Ubel + Land, she's been talking to him this whole time and yet she still hasn't to our knowledge learned how he creates clones. She stated that people choose the spells they use based on their personality and needs, so if she can understand them, she can understand why they would want to learn the spell she's targeting and how they do it. She seems to be a very misunderstood character for whatever reason.
You're looking too deep bro. Serie just had a talk with Denken about how no one would ever think to fight her, then hard cuts to Ubel who would want to fight her. And as the other comment said, Serie would have to use a spell first and THEN Serie would have to talk to empathize with them. Just talking isn't going to do anything.
@@sammed473 it s a neat detail that ehre says her grandpa is a first class mage and the only old one we see is lernen also when she fights fern she says it feels like she is fighting her grandpa
What gets me the most is that the helpful habits of Himmel that Wirbel was talking about... Himmel probably got that sense of helping people out from the one time she helped him out when he got lost in the woods. Also: Fern was just thinking of a spell that saved her the most time. Laundry in a medieval fantasy world is tedious and intensive.
Übel passed also because 3 years ago, she effortlessly cut down the ultimate cloth of defense with its user. Series is looking for odd balls that don’t know to limit their imagination in the presents of overwhelming force, or at least a combat orientated mage
No she failed. The examination specifically said killing is forbidden. It was meant to be a test of control and damage. Ubel effortlessly passed the second part not the first
Serie's test came down entirely to how they reacted to her and her power, for the human mages everyone who was afraid of her failed. The ones who weren't intimidated by Serie were the ones who passed. That's really all Serie's test was, if you're afraid of me you fail. Except towards Frieren, Serie knew that Frieren didn't care about the title in the first place. Serie would actually love it if she and Frieren were more compatible personality wise. The whole thing with Frieren not having a burning ambition for power when she is someone who could actually match Serie's level and have the lifespan to do so, while Serie's human students always die of old age before they can reach their full potential, is the thing that irritates Serie most about Frieren. Frieren isn't living up to her full potential.
Am I the only one who picks up that seemingly Land can see/talk through his clones? Like not only can he project these fuckers (multiple at a time at that) at a distance, but he immediately noticed when Serie noticed him. To me that just makes him an even bigger problem, cause he has the mental capacity to manually control two versions of himself while also chilling in his real body. Man's a hivemind.
and on top of that control their characteristics to the point that übel thought that she was talking to the real him in the city when in fact it was still a clone
Serie: You are now a 1st class mage. I have a plethora of OP ass spells for you to pick from, pick one. Fern: Uhhh lemme get that Legendary Leland spell. Now she stay clean🐐
Fun Fact about the Names which applys to most Characters in the Series. The Names are German Words, for example: Stark = Strong, Fern = Far, Laufen = Walking, Lawine = Avalanche, Himmel = Heaven, Lügner = Liar, Eisen = Iron, Ehre = Honor, Sense = Scythe, Übel = Evil, Voll = Full, Flamme = Flame, Frieren = Freezing. And this goes on for basicly 95% of all characters, as a German this makes it kinda funny to watch.
I don't care even if it'll take years for Madhouse to continuing the rest of frieren's stories, I'll wait and be there no matter what. Thank You, Madhouse 👏👏👏
I just want to point out that during Serie's test, Wirbel said that magic is only useful for killing, but then he used magic to help the granny with the oranges. He is almost a much of a tsundere as Serie and I'm betting that's why Serie grinned at him like that 🤣
i mean he is not being tsundere he just magic is a tool for convenience which is true him picking up the oranges is him using magic as a tool it doesn't mean he likes magic. ITs consistent with what he has been doing. He said he had no favorites he uses it when the moment calls for it. That doesn't mean he is a rude person or somebody that finds magic not useful he is just honest in that it is a thing for certain use.
@DBZFANX1000 Right but... he did say it's only useful for killing which is very specific. He didn't say means to an end. Not trying to be argumentative or anything though. I just appreciated that although he presents himself as kind of coldhearted, he consistently shows care for others with his actions, like carrying his party members, or helping the old lady. He's a genuinely good guy
@@Alexa-md2uk when he says its a tool for killing that calling it a means to end its the same thing.... he didn't specifically say it but if you use something you do not love to get the job done that is what that means. and yes its his tool for killing mind you he became a magic user to protect his hometown from demons and he is the captain of the nothern magic corps that fought the remants of the demon army so yes 90% of the time magic is a means to end for him to kill demons and protect his hometowm. Yes he is a good guy but he is not tsundere he is pretty honest he is not hiding his feelings at all he is pretty straightforward with any stranger like he was with frieren. I'm just saying he is not tsundere magic is a tool for him and yes he said killing because if you look at his job thats what his magic gets used for the most since he fights the demon remnants
i dont think that was the same situation for him at all, he truly does believe that, even though he still helps people, he believes magic is fulyl for killing and war. as explained by his backstory.
Fern remembers how she almost got killed because of demon blood on her clothes so she chose a spell to clean clothes! What a genius! Can't use same trick on her twice😂
Fern choosing a spell that cleans clothes, after the magic blood in her first demon attack makes so much sense, like yeah it's useful for everyday, but also magic blood aint got shit on her anymore!
Damn this season has been perfect. It’s really remarkable the quality we got and for a pretty long first season as well. Hopefully the next can at least be close to this
The bottled golems are Lernen's. That's his favorite spell. The few first-class mages shown used spells we already know - Reamstroha from Kanne, Sorganeil (or the bird-binding spell) from Wirbel or Frieren, and the Golems.
Ubel doesn’t know the clone is fake because she continues to tag along to better empathize with him to better learn his cloning spell which is taking longer than other instances, she says this in an episode. If Ubel knows the clone is fake she wouldn’t keep tagging along and would probably go after is real self.
You guys never watched the end credits 😅. There's a nice montage of the characters if you do revisit. Either way, thanks for the reactions. Thoroughly enjoyed your perspectives.
Even if Frieren does get a S2, it may not be under the same director as S1 and that... that would be real bad. Keiichiro Saito, this seasons director, is far too talented for a new director to replicate what he has achieved. Not only is Saito skilled at creating asthetically pleasing shows that adapt the manga's vibe perfectly, he also has contacts to some of the best animators in the industry, such as Shingo Yamashita, Kouki Fujimoto, Vercreek, Saucelot, K1RO, Yen BM, TNK, Tatsuya Yoshihara and even the man, the myth, the legend, Yutaka Nakamura. Looking at MAL, I see Shun Enokido, Roccia Nobili, Norifumi Kugai, Takahito Sakazume, Ren Onodera, Toshiyuki Sato and Kai Shibata. Unbelievable... HUGE props to Saito and Fukushi.
There's a reason Prestidigitation is one of the most-commonly chosen non-combat cantrips in Dungeons & Dragons 5e :) The ability to just say "yeah, that's clean now" is absolutely some legendary-level spellcraft.
wirbel's reason for becoming a first class mage in a nutshell “I have found that it is the small everyday deed of ordinary folks that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit
I watched this one historical costumer’s video about attempting to wash clothes using Victorian era methods and the way it takes days of prep work for (and even having to plan meals around doing) laundry even back as recently as just a few centuries ago really put into perspective how convenient that spell would be to have for traveling in that medieval-esque setting 😂 no doubt it’s a legendary spell!
I cried towards the end seeing that final flashback of quick goodbyes and having it be embarrassing when we meet again.. It's crazy thinking that the show is also referring to the audience as well because we know Frieren is easily getting another season. I'm really gonna miss this show so damn much until then. I watched this anime on a whim and it has catapulted into my top 5. What beautiful story telling, the animation is so lush, the score is amazing. Hope we get a second season
I like how serie immediately passed Ubel on the spot. Cause keep in mind serie knows basically every spell and if Ubel ever manages to empathize with her then she has every spell
On the Ubel and Land relationship: Ubel at least noticed his "trickery" in that Land was making at least one clone and she definitely saw enough to desire that spell. She mentions after the first test that if she can empathize with another mage, its enough for her to copy their magic. this is how she learned Wirbel's binding magic. Whether she knew Lands ability extended so far that he was directing clones from his own village has not been answered.
I'm not sure if it was intentional, but a reminder that Fern was tracked by the blood demon by having her clothes stained with his blood. With her new spell something like that will never happen again.
i just realized that land didn’t have a clone (enemy clone) during the fight in the ruins. it was a slight clue that throughout the whole test, he wasn’t technically there.
Roshi sighing when Fern chose that spell is gonna bite him back later on. That is an extremely important spell in a later arc and I cannot wait to see that arc animated!
I think the best thing about this series is how it develops the meaning of the very first episode where Himmel and the old heroes go on one last adventure. Because we've all played Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy, in that first episode we already can imagine what their adventures were like. What's more interesting is what you do after the great adventure is over. Well, in the show it's trying to say that as long as you live, you start a new adventure. The things that Frieren experiences with Fern and Stark and all the others is similar in terms of emotions to what she experienced during Himmel's time. It's just that given enough time she forgets, until something Fern does reminds her of something similar in the past. And that is the only way that Himmel can continue to live, through the memories of living people. All the humans that knew Himmel are dead, but through his one elven friend, he gets to live nearly forever.

Frieren's statement about 1/100th of her life wasn't about her lifespan but how long she had lived so far (i.e. she is over a thousand years old).
Why they passed
Ubel - Fearless and unfazed by the mana
Fern - Powerful mage with potential
Land - just the brass balls to send a shadow clone to do the test for him
Wirbel - is indifferent to magic
Methode - has a elf fetish
i definitely prefer that idea for methode but it was probably the fact that instead of instinctive fear of serie's mana she instead was like "what a cutie"
@@dankerbell
Methode: I mayhaps sit on you.
Serie: You pass.
I love when Serie made the same (´⌯ ̫⌯`) face that Frieren does xD and I’m gonna miss Fern’s pout (•̀⤙•́)
< ( = w = ) >
strongest emoticon game of 2024. out here practicing lost arts
Best faces. Ferns pout is so cute.
@@Zuldx Serie is going to have to spend time relearning that useless spell because she gave it to Fern.
@@toffee6701i swear they said she had them all memorised so she wouldn't need to
Damn, I just realized why Fern chose, "a spell to make clothes clean and spotless".
I think it's Fern as she's able to see through serie's mana fluctuations. But that's just my opinion
@@narberalgamma7957 I think Lernen would sweep current Fern though.
@@narberalgamma7957 Fern has a higher potential, but Lernen is currently stronger
Hmm I agree current fern is not at her peak now 😞
I don't think Lernen wanted to defeat Frieren in order to gain fame or recognition from Serie.
Yep. That’s why she thought it was insane. You have access to planet destroying spells and all you pick is Prestidigitation??
But does it add a floral scent?
If so, then why are some mages still dirty?
Well Ackchually! It’s Better than prestidigitation because the clean laundry spell actually cleans the clothes while prestidigitation cantrip is an illusory effect and wears off after 1 hour.
@@arvinsim ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Its crazy how almost everyone forgets... the more you talk to Ubel, the better the chance for her to steal your spell. Why do you think Serie said literally nothing? She's a living grimiore, and Ubel learning any % of her spells is devastating. Serie is absolutely smart too, with the best instinct for knowing a person... except herself lol.
I don't think ubel be able to learn all the spells she had it probably be too many not that i think it would matter.
that's true. I forgot about that.
Just talking isn't going to do anything.
words weren't needed between them. Game recognizes game.
Lernen is the one who made those escape golems
I feel like a lot of ppl forgot abt this
And the grandpa of Ehre!
@@sammed473 no wonder erhe, despite failing, is considered really damn strong. She just seems like she doesn't believe in herself once enough.
@@sammed473 it s a neat detail that ehre says her grandpa is a first class mage and the only old one we see is lernen
also when she fights fern she says it feels like she is fighting her grandpa
Ubel effortlessly passed the second part not the first
@@sentryion3106 are you confused or something? I just meant Series definitely knows her from the previous exam
people like Ubel and Wirbel are the ideal mages in Serie's eyes. People with strong visual imagination and all about throwing hands
@@sentryion3106 u misinterpreted the comment lol
@@HenryTitor oh sorry yea I got confused.
The fact that Land wasn't even there the whole Time is crazy
Am I the only one who picks up that seemingly Land can see/talk through his clones?
Like not only can he project these fuckers (multiple at a time at that) at a distance, but he immediately noticed when Serie noticed him. To me that just makes him an even bigger problem, cause he has the mental capacity to manually control two versions of himself while also chilling in his real body. Man's a hivemind.
and on top of that control their characteristics to the point that übel thought that she was talking to the real him in the city when in fact it was still a clone
Emotional ending? Naw. Let's over-think Kraft. XD
Fr lol
Serie: You are now a 1st class mage. I have a plethora of OP ass spells for you to pick from, pick one. Fern: Uhhh lemme get that Legendary Leland spell.
Now she stay clean🐐
Fern: OK but am I CLEAN though??? 😂😂😂
Cool Greys
Leland lol
Fun Fact about the Names which applys to most Characters in the Series. The Names are German Words, for example: Stark = Strong, Fern = Far, Laufen = Walking, Lawine = Avalanche, Himmel = Heaven, Lügner = Liar, Eisen = Iron, Ehre = Honor, Sense = Scythe, Übel = Evil, Voll = Full, Flamme = Flame, Frieren = Freezing. And this goes on for basicly 95% of all characters, as a German this makes it kinda funny to watch.
Laufen = Running, Walking would be Gehen.
He is almost a much of a tsundere as Serie and I'm betting that's why Serie grinned at him like that 🤣
Not really, magic is a means to an end for him. He gets things done if needed.
i mean he is not being tsundere he just magic is a tool for convenience which is true him picking up the oranges is him using magic as a tool it doesn't mean he likes magic.
Can't use same trick on her twice😂
wow that's a nice catch. but do you think this cleaning spell can also remove blood stains with mana?
@@creativecave116 Well, Frieren did call it a legendary spell so I would hope it can
Fern choosing a spell that cleans clothes, after the magic blood in her first demon attack makes so much sense, like yeah it's useful for everyday, but also magic blood aint got shit on her anymore!
3:25 Dude was literally zoom calling his exam in with a Shadow Clone Drone. That is fire 🔥
Damn I’m really gonna miss this show till another season comes eventually, easily in my top 5 anime of all time.
Wrong. Toho will make the same staff
Damn was literally just thinking about y’all reacting to this episode, universe came in clutch.
This show was a great slice of life action magic show 😊😊
There's a reason Prestidigitation is one of the most-commonly chosen non-combat cantrips in Dungeons & Dragons 5e :) The ability to just say "yeah, that's clean now" is absolutely some legendary-level spellcraft.
I just realized the reason we didn't see a land clone is because he didn't really enter the dungeon so it didn't register him
Nah they showed in the last episode in the dungeon, when Land got Sorganeiled and asked Ubel if she's seeing what he's seeing.
12:34 dude! The best ending just got cut off…
You guys didn't let the credits roll~ there will be a season 2, no general date but the story will continue~
wirbel's reason for becoming a first class mage in a nutshell “I have found that it is the small everyday deed of ordinary folks that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love.”

Roshi got the boy sci-fi brain on thinking too much for these episodes, girls get this show better cause they use their heart.
All we have to do is wait a decade for a new season now. Just a mere decade it wont hurt
Peak from start to finish, now we wait for season 2
I watched this one historical costumer’s video about attempting to wash clothes using Victorian era methods and the way it takes days of prep work for (and even having to plan meals around doing) laundry even back as recently as just a few centuries ago really put into perspective how convenient that spell would be to have for traveling in that medieval-esque setting 😂 no doubt it’s a legendary spell!
Not the foot being blurred lol 🤣
Yo that Feet Blurr had me dying ...😂😂😂
I cried towards the end seeing that final flashback of quick goodbyes and having it be embarrassing when we meet again.. It's crazy thinking that the show is also referring to the audience as well because we know Frieren is easily getting another season. I'm really gonna miss this show so damn much until then. Thank you Frieren! AotY 💙
Land is the ultimate work from home Chad! Like dude! He took the First Class Mage Exam from the comfort of his bloody home, that is some balls of adamantium!
This anime was just banger after banger every week with an amazing story and god tier animation. I cant believe this just came out of nowhere and we were here to experience it.
The highlighted comment at 2:20 got me rolling 😂😂
Frieren was such a good show to watch! 9/10
I'm gonna miss this so much. Love y'all ❤
Likewise. But spring season is going to be good.
April-June.
The escape golems are the ones that Lernen developed. Those golems were stronger then most of the mages in the dungeon 😂
I'm not sure if it was intentional, but a reminder that Fern was tracked by the blood demon by having her clothes stained with his blood. With her new spell something like that will never happen again.
TFW you realise that Fern only chose that specific spell because Frieren hugged Methode (“smells nice”) ☺️☺️☺️
i just realized that land didn’t have a clone (enemy clone) during the fight in the ruins. it was a slight clue that throughout the whole test, he wasn’t technically there.
Frieren was one of those animes that really got me hooked with each episode, now I can't wait for the next season
Land really said “Nah, i’d work from home”
This one of those shows you wish it would just continue forever, such a great series all around.
Currently waiting on Vol. 1-4 to be delivered, have absolutely loved this series and cant wait for it to continue.
Yeah.
A quick goodbye is fitting. If we get a second season I want to greet it with a smile.
Im so happy denken , wirbel , ubel , method , land , AND fern pass as first-class mage ! 🎊😁👍 ( I do feel bad about the other who didn't pass..😔 but I hope they'll pass the exams next time😁 ) 3:28 land is a major badass!! 😆 fern getting a spell that clean is so incredibly useful! ( I would so want that spell..! ) its was so nice to hear wirbel talk about himmel , and to see one last flashback of this season 😭 ! and this series is definitely one of my favorite number 1 fantasy adventurous anime imo ! All the characters are outstanding, the areas that frieren travels are amazing , and the story itself are phenomenally incredible. Its truly has been quite a journey.. I hope this series get a season 2.. ; )
Just imagine a timeline where Denken was not only trained by one of the Sages of Destruction but also The Great Mage Serie. He'll be unstoppable.
Was waiting for y'all to get to this episode, imo it's the most beautiful of the whole series so far
Getting to see all these important mages who passed and failed the exam interact one possibly final time with each other after learning to be more friendly to each other outside of the exam
Also was waiting for roshi to see the serie foot seen, this show is advertising for a certain audience odd they didn't show ferns throughout s1
Fern passed the magic Hunter Exam and the prize she chooses is a life time supply of Xtra 🤣
Himmel broke the fourth wall. Guess I can't cry until season two comes out.
JC Staff out here catching strays 😂
My interpretation of Serie passing Übel is because with one look she could tell that Übel has no problem imagining killing her.
it was a wonderful journey and pleasure make whit you thanks for the reactions
7:50 LMFAOOOO Himmel didn't receive any cheeks from Frieren indeed
First off sick burn by Frieren calling Serie a child, for Fren that was a great choice of a spell to clean that such a time saver, & alas this was the Season 1 last episode but like Frieren mentioned it would be great to get to go on another journey with them

The one who attacked Freiren, his name is Lernen. He is indeed the one who made the golem used in the 2nd exam.
Lernen making that golem really show what he capable of. That golem is strong
We’re gonna need either a Denken prologue spin-off mini-series or an OVA of Stark hanging out with the villagers while Frieren and Fern were busy with the exam to hold us over until season 2
