I love all the comment where people are judging the sound based on the youtube video. Are people that dum that they think that sound can be judged on their OWN speakers through a video on youtube :-)

exactly, i was a B&O Audio amplification engineer from 1986-96 (brought in for the new beolab project to replace beo vox speakers etc) im retired now tho i still have countless amounts of gear (tho newest things i have are beolab 5 in my place lol) i was on the team to make beovox penta into beolab penta, and was there for the 8000 (pipe organ pipe) and 6000 from scatch lol, last tvs i bought were in 2009, a beolvision 10-40 and beovision 10-46, i just bought an edge to replace my 28yr old century in my kitchen lol, i still have a beocentre 3500 with RL60 and cx100 in my workshop outback, and a beosound 3200 in the house with my tvs (im old fashioned i like the cd player and the hard drive and radio, beolab 5s downstairs and 8000 and 6000 along with a beolab 2 upstairs lol, i can still control my old stuff in the workshop even thru masterlink (whole house was wired that way in 1990 even still have motorised curtain and blind rails lol, im a bit of a dinosaur tho ive gotten an edge like i said lol, so yeah to original point, the only ppl who misjudge B&O are ppl who dont know the eqiptment, a 30yr old pair of pentas against a brand new sonos set up has only one winner lol, ppl who say no bass in B&O are just idiots, non experienced nae sayers, an old beolab 2 cube can crack a window pane, a lab 5 darleck can crack it more, a lab 50 and 90 can blow it out the frame lol, i hate ppl downing stuff they have no experience of :( wouldnt be here after 93 yrs if it was junk lol, they just cant afford it i guess lol, sorry for the novel bud :)

I listen on technics sb-f3 studio near-field aluminium monitors. Trust me, I can sense the details. For example these BO are a little too much on the higher frequencies , but they are superb otherwise. And the mic is very important in these videos.

I have had many hours with these and the sound is mindblowing. The bass is stunning and the power of these is really scary. The high notes are a bit to much at times but the midrange is spot on. Not a fan of the Omni and Wide mode, but the narrow mode gives you sound that is just beyond anything. But dont take my word....find a store that has these and take the ride. YES there are some stunning speakers out there but the cost more than these is you want the whole package (speaker, amps, cables, processing and more)

Heard these in Harrods as a demonstration in the open. I was BLOWN away by them. The song demonstrated was called "Earned it" from the fifty shades soundtrack. I was shocked by the openness and the ability to produce clean, powerful and moving bass with such ease. It showed me that there are audiophile speakers out there that will appeal to those such as myself who enjoy powerful bass and aren't classical lovers. Seriously impressed, Wish I had asked to play Funkadelic through them :)

Peter, I'm sure these sound fantastic but I would LOVE to see an independent survey based purely on a pair of these set up in a modern living room setting, grilles on. Full marks to B&O for being willing to march to the beat of their own drum and most audiophiles couldnt give a hoot, but PAF must surely be abysmal with something that looks like a prop from a Klingon Warbird ;)

These remind me of some old Radford omnidirectional speakers I used to have, model Studio 270s. They placed mid and high frequency drivers (high quality German drivers) on 3 sides giving a 270 degree sound radiation. Except that the cost was far more reasonable than the Beolab 90s. I'll wager the Radfords sounded every bit as good, perhaps better balanced overall as these sound much too tipped up in the highs.

I heard these in real life and nothing, no reviews, serious write-ups, prepared me for what I heard. It first sounded strange for say 3 minutes, because I didn't hear any room interaction, just the speakers. The sounded clear, delicate to me. Not at all to bass heavy or too much high notes, on the contrary: very natural. For those who can afford them (not me unfortunately): go take a listen. They're a masterpiece.

Bang & Olufsen have been innovating for decades. Audiophile prejudice might have them down as a 'lifestyle brand' but in this case that generally just means that some serious consideration has been given to aesthetics, ergonomics & reliability.
I'm absolutely sure therefore that this cost-no-object effort will successfully compete nose to nose with Wilson + Magico etc.
But please please please bin that godawful demo track! If I hear it once more I swear I'll start weeping.

stunning. no bass feeling from the record = means zero coloration to midrange in Narrow_mode. Zero. A shaking reality Volcano. First seconds of the track shows ludicrously large amount of energy they radiate.
The speaker (person) is so emotional)

Should have designed them modular: consisting of multiple enclosures tightened together. So it's easy to maneuver and assemble-disassemble the entire two- speaker set by its relatively light smaller separate parts rather than grabbing the whole speaker and trying to move it.

It's very clever and sounds great in the bass and mids, but the trebble is uncomfortable to listen to, certainly in direct mode.
It seems to be the same sort of DSP artifacts that make some digital guitar and PA amplifiers sound harsh and fizzy.
It may sound great in the room and the harshness is being emphasised by the recording and TH-cam.
Also what type of power supply does this thing need? If it requires a dedicated circuit like an electric shower then I will believe the 8kW rating, but if it plugs into a regular outlet then I call BS on the amp spec.

I like the omni mode, but bang & olufsen seem still to have that same old issue of being too tinnie sounding. In other words too much treble and harshness. I wonder if it felt that way in the room.

They sound better than I thought they would, but I still wouldn't buy them. I find them tinny sounding. I know what you mean, their other speaker seem to be very bright. Maybe changing cables would be a thing to try.

    • @joakimkn1
      @joakimkn1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

I actually got that same feeling listening to the new beolab 50's. I once had a Lyngdorf 2+2 system witch never started to be harsh, on whatever volume. But turning the volume up on the 50's and it was like getting knifes into my ears, like to much treble or something. Anyways, the 50's was really good, covering everything from the deepest sounds and up.
