    VAC started with a passion about breathing realism and life into reproduced music, to making it sound as much like the real thing as possible. VAC products are masterpieces because they allow each recorded performance to be the masterpiece the musicians intended.
    Our lineup:
    Preamplifiers: www.vac-amps.co...
    Amplifiers: www.vac-amps.co...
    Integrated amplifiers: www.vac-amps.co...
    Accessories: www.vac-amps.co...
    The difference between a good amplifier and a great amplifier resides in the details, and in the passion of the designer. One of the reasons for superiority of VAC equipment is that VAC uses vacuum tube technology almost exclusively. After almost 100 years since it invention, the triode vacuum tube remains the most linear (accurate) amplifying element known producing superior sonic performance. A tube amplifier, properly designed, preserves far more of the vitality of the original performance. Tubes simply bring the music back alive. This is why the world’s foremost guitarists use tube amplifiers, and why vacuum tube microphones and processors are highly prized by the world’s best recording studios. Tubes do have a sound that is different from solid state amplifiers, and one that happens to make amplified music sound better to the human ears and brain.
    Another reason: The potential benefit of hand wiring is that the designer gains infinitely more freedom in “voicing” through the ability to select the brand, conductor material(s), insulation, size, and geometry of wires used to build the amplifier. This has been exploited in many previous VAC designs.
    A third reason: Relentless search for musical accuracy. Once the basic electrical design is completed, countless hours are spent in the process we call “voicing.” During this time, small changes in the physical arrangement of the parts are tested, different types of capacitors and wires are auditioned, and even various chassis materials tried. The differences often elude the linear test bench instrumentation but are plainly audible to the human ear. The human ear and brain do not work in the manner of our test instruments, and the ear values different aspects of performance than can be measured readily. The passion for this work and attention to detail is required to bring a design to its peak of performance. Great care is evident in every note sounded by a VAC. Listen and let the sound be your guide!
    One listen and you will appreciate that VAC is the world leader in audio entertainment, an appreciation that can only grow over a lifetime of listening.
    In addition to this careful design and implementation, we carefully monitor the audio quality of our production to protect your investment and ensure your listening enjoyment.

    For a demo of a high end system, they should play something with more instruments. And something with highs, mids and lows,too. Jazz is a good source of such variety.

    Going to stick with my sixty-one year old Quad ESL! Interesting that this least speaker-like loudspeaker can sound just like a conventional coned driver loudspeaker when it has to replay music through such a system! All coned loudspeakers sound like coned loudspeaker once you have an ESL!
    Best wishes

    • @ewmcdade
      @ewmcdade 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah ok, I'm sure you were considering Grand Utopias but just decided to "stick with" your Quads. This coned loudspeaker would blow those old Quads completely out of the water in any metric you could possibly think of. Also ESL's SUCK with rock music.

    Nice hi-end setup audio components in a controlled environment Sound good depending on what kind of system you listen with, but to me to crisp and too bright, maybe I" am getting old but still prefer the smooth warm sound that '70 "s and the late '80"s components deliver.
    Do not get me wrong here, it is still very hi-end worth several $$$$$ more compared to the older stuff.
    I am not judging which is better? the answer is obvious but this is my personal opinion and should not be compared with professional expert opinions.

    They say that the 2 inch dome tweeter in the middle of dead center with this set... is were the magic comes. And alot of consumers have said the same thing about the unique sound that comes out of this tiny little dome tweeter at dead center. I personally have heard a lot of different tweeters in my lifetime, but they say that these ones in this set is something special. Google say that these comes in second place as the best Sp's in the world, but the Alexandria XLF Sp's comes in first place according to Google! For me the (Martin Logan Neo Lithe) would be first choice for me!!

    • @AVshowreports
      @AVshowreports  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +ramro keto Although it is a good recording, there is nothing specialized about it. The VAC system is what is bringing out the best in the recording.

    • @craneywatch
      @craneywatch 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, good recording will make lower priced system sound good, but it will take a lot of search, tuning and calibration to make lower priced sound system to make sound equality good.

    • @Turboy65
      @Turboy65 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, not even close. I can take the same recording and play it on any system and it's usually very apparent which systems are built to a higher price point and performance standard. Sometimes you find equipment that's so good it breaks out of its price tier. But no recording can make a BAD system sound GOOD.

    Don't know if it's the limitations of TH-cam plus tablet etc, but I was waiting for the bass to rattle the floor boards and.... nothing. Yes it's clear, but bright. Did they turn down the bass? Not knocking the stuff, but with the size of it all I was expecting more OOOMPH!

    • @kilogone8781
      @kilogone8781 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s not bright, but typical Focal W cone dryness. Sure the latest W cones handle dynamics like never before. But the very first W cone design in 1st gen Utopia, imo the best version of all. As lush as paper cone and clean like a hard cone. Oh as for bass, only JL do it right.

      @Marten Dekker Focal is one of the most famous brand in Studios up there with ATC, Genelec ect... I don't understand the Hi-Fi place. These guys buy hundred of thousand of dollars in gear to put in shitty rooms, where a mastering monitoring system is maybe 50K max with really big ATC speakers. Why ? isn't Hi-fi standing for high-fidelity ? Why not use what we use ?

      To answer Andrew’s question directly - you hit the nail on the head, if you’re listening to this on a tablet, it’s hardware just isn’t capable of producing any bass with its small speaker(a).
      This is presuming the recording was well done and captured the bass in the first place.

  • @StormCentre88
    @StormCentre88 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Speakers are not bad, but their measurements (particularly in the time domain) are very, very average; especially for this price range.
    Time domain performance is that of a speaker in the $2K- 3K range; as there is a lot of time smearing, and it appears that the tweeter and mid range drivers are connected with inverse polarity to the remaining transducer set.
    Crossover design is less than spectacular.
    Furthermore, the cumulative decay plot reveals (a relatively long settle time for the LF system, and that) high frequencies suffer from modal/other break up patterns and/or uncontrolled "ringing" between 10KHz and 15KHz.
    The on axis frequency response, whilst ragged and featuring noticeable dips at 1.5KHz and 5KHz, manages (just) to stay within plus/minus 5 dB
    Overall the large Focal speakers - measurements wise - are close to unacceptable for their price range.
    For around 1/10th of their cost ($10K) I can buy other large passive floor standing and/or active speakers that nail their frequency/time and cumulative spectral decay plots, whilst also delivering similar - if not better - time domain performance and/or step responses.
    These speakers probably have a great "presence" and sound good, but they are nowhere near the top 5 speakers out there today.

      I heard a set of Grand Utopias a number of years ago and I was surprised to hear that such expensive, and presumably well engineered, set of speakers had a distinctly nasal characteristic to them. Something was wrong and I don't know what. The bottom octave of bass was also NOT up to par with what my Aerial 10Ts do. The Grand Utopias are more expensive but I think that the more affordable (if you can call 7700 bucks a pair affordable) 10Ts are much better speakers to my ears.

      YT as a limiter at -13 LUFS you can call it RMS so all the music which is above this limit is limited, you can´t ear if is too loud or not unless you can A/B the real thing with the video. i guess the guy who record know that and he is recording to fit the YT standard, it´s easy just don´t clip A/D converter and your surelly done if it is too low just push the level a bit with a limiter until you get the YT standard or just normalize for this kind of speakers and set up it should be OK

      Not sure it depend the frecuency range of the speakers you have for listen at, not over my laptop speakers of courses. also it never gonna be like to be in the room hahaha

    Why the speakers stand with this little distance to each other...in this giant room...?

      To prevent sidereflection from the wall and window, that will make the deep frequencies blow of.

    i hate to see ppl not appreciating music , i mean i wouldn't play distorted sine waves mp3 on this system , let alone great artistic work from madona or gaga on vinyl

    • @dedskin1
      @dedskin1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** man you completely misunderstood the statement , it was sarcasm, since the system is obviously work of art for rich ppl not music system ...read it again as sarcasm . As for music carriers analog vs digital and all that , im sure there is plenty of arguments for both , i just like nice sound no matter the source

    Awesome sound…considering the fact that this recording is nothing to shout about. Oh this was the LP version. The cd version sounded absolutely meh.

    What about some good old school speaker?? Klipsh. Voice of the theater?? Don,t need mega watt power amps!!! 20 ti 30 watts will blow you out of the room!!

    • @jstoli996c4s
      @jstoli996c4s 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Russell E Simonetta agree! Many of these mega dollar speakers are low sensitivity (not sure about the Grand Utopias), thus requiring absurd amounts of power to make them sing. What even better is that Klipsch no longer than the bullhorn effect like their older versions, so you get the details, clarity, and dynamics with relatively low power, though you always want it to be a good quality amp.
