- Meet Damayanti Vijay Tambay, a six-time National Badminton Champion and Arjuna Awardee whose husband went missing after the 1971 war between India and Pakistan.
She, along with 53 other military families, has always believed her husband Flt Lt Vijay Tambay was alive and imprisoned in a Pakistan jail.
Though she spent less than two years with her husband before he went to the frontline, she has spent five decades looking for him.
"To have experienced even one and half years of love is worth everything to me," she tells Barkha Dutt. This is an extraordinary love story.

The thing that struck me about Damayanti aunty is tht she's practically unchanged in 30 years. I grew up on the JNU campus and she was a colleague of my parents. She encouraged all us kids in those days to take up sport and be positive in life. A powerhouse of optimism and a true inspiration!
I think nowadays u don't find a lady like her,the one and half year of love she got from her husband,is what she carries through her life. God bless u mam,

@sripriyarao7238 I will disagree with you on one part, i.e., "especially educated ones"....women of that Era had grace no matter educated, little educated, or not educated at all.
I am deeply touched but truly not impressed, This lady follows the genuine Indian civilization and is not in the least pseudo-westernized. Surely has taken the best from all cultures but retained the solid-Indian-cultural roots. The youth of India have much to learn from her. Extremely, honest, brave, cultured and has true loyalty in every manner. Her face shines like a little goddess. So why be impressed since she had solid Indian cultural roots! Her path is the right one as well. A solid law of nature is it is still not over till genuinely over.

I salute Mrs Tambe and shame on our politicians who treated POW’ of our sworn enemy nicely and did nothing substantial get our POW’s released from Pakistan’s captivity actually Congress govt of that time should have kept at least 5000 POW’s in our jail to seek our POW’s release

Good thing about today's govt is we dont leave our own behind ever - whether its military personnel in enemy territory, Indians stuck abroad in war or pandemic. Every Indian's life matters. How was Indira Gandhi iron woman if she couldnt get our own PoWs but gave away 90,000 Pakistani PoWs! Congress has lot to answer.
