- Hey guys! GullYY here, welcome back to another epic Polytopia video! In today's video, we're revisiting a challenge where we play a standard game of Polytopia, but we have to skip 20 turns! The naval update is sure to make this an interesting game, thanks to the drastic changes brought by the update, as well as improvements to Polytopia's AI! I hope you enjoy!

You thought "Crazy" referred to their difficulty. Midjiwan changed "Crazy" to refer to their _strategy_

@@Gerrieberrie76 omg I've seen that so many times. I think it's because when the AI has one city left and starts to get desperate, it defaults to cloaks as a way to turn the game around, but it's counterproductive when the cloak gets killed immediately
i just got back into playing polytopia(few months since i was focused on dysmantle), no wonder why it felt more challenging now

Hey Gully, quick tip abt sth I didn’t see you doing: when a scout disembarks on a land tile, it gets 5x5 vision from that tile as well. So when eco is not an issue, it may be more worthwhile to go Normandy 2.0 with the scouts and send em into the enemy lines for vision instead of keeping them right next to the coast
Maybe everyone knows that but fun fact if you get polaris and freeze the water you can build one big bridge across many tiles of water. Anyways I always enjoy watching your challenges and learn from how you think. Maybe it would be even better if the dev team released a new difficulty to AI based on pro player's strats.
Doesn't really work unfortunately, since bridges can only be built on shallow tiles like ports. It is possible though to build a bridge on nearly every shallow tile with polaris freezing, just not every water tile

GullYY, I like how CRAZY this video is, but it's not nearly as crazy as the disappearance of my father. I know what you did, the video is nice, but I'd really rather have him back. Please

Pretty sure the 1 tile cities are meant to be islands. They used to be a part of the old continent generation too.

with the AI changes, i noticed that the AI is smarter, but also make some strange and sometimes game throwing moves more often. in my games against them (I'm trying to 100% every tribe at the moment, 5 done) they do some better plays like building efficient roads but they sometimes completely skip upgrading cities where they have the tech to upgrade them, moving as many troops as possible onto boats on a lake at the edge of the map inhibiting their expansion, and generally not expanding and grabbing cities early game causing them to be wiped out by other tribes making me have to reset.
another thing if you spawn near Quetzali early game will block resource tiles with shields, and without archers, this can be costly to remove them without losses. (annoying for 100%)
I feel like the AI is way better on smaller scale than on big Maps. Because they seem like they don't upgrade their cities and don't even get much Tech on big Maps.
It's too easy I guess, try to complete Yadakk, immediately building roads on every availible tile you're starting to own (it does basically mean that you skip first 8 or 9 turns and can't even take a second sity right after..) - and you can't buy anything else until every your tile will be coveredd with roads... This challenge is extremely hard, I don't know if you can beat it on Drylands at all... but on water maps definitely yes
Maybe only tiles inside of your teritorry?
You know that the day is going to bite itself in the nose when GullYY decides to bite his nose in the middle of a yaddak. (makes sense to me)

I would love it if you could make a video with a short ranking of the tribes and then show how to play the best three. (or maybe just the best one)

And... yeah, I lime most of the stuff they added, but the AI still neekds some upgrades.
Regarding the update, i decided to make a 4 player game on water world, xin xi mirror. Its currently at turn 100 and only just starting to tip in one tribes favour because i deliberately ended the stalemate bombers cause, their splash damage makes them the ultimate defence unit and act as a strategic area of denial, to assail a line of them is near impossible even with a slight advantage. Markets as my observations go are most productive when you plan cities around them, have forges, windmills, sawmills and a port around them and the loss of unit capacity and population is trivial because of their returns. For 4 cities that are optimally planned you get 70+ stars a turn, assuming you chose only parks for the stars. Accounting for your type of gameplay i would say you still get a solid 50+ which isnt something to ignore; you are reluctant to invest in the economy despite juggernauts seeming weaker in the lategame as they get outnumbered, outranged and outmanuvered. On the whole a good video and i enjoyed how you responded to the update in this game
No way I JUST did this exact challenge myself yesterday what a coincidence
from what I've found it actually really helps if instead of going the forestry route you go the farming chivalry route since you have the initial stars to buy the tech cheaply and you also get to remove your forests which helps when dealing with cloaks
Why does removing forests help when dealing with cloaks?
@@JesseDishner if they have archery (which chances are they do) daggers will get a defence bonus when they spawn in your city if you have forests for them to occupy, removing your forests prevents this and makes daggers able to be killed by knights
Hi gullyy! I'm on college break as well (starting back up next monday tho) and I've been doing a lot of polytopia in my free time. Managed to push up to my all time PR of 1823 elo (before losing 3 games in quick succession and dropping down to the mid 1700s lol).

33:30 Yeah it's weird that swordsmen don't have fortify anymore. Xin-xi was weaker than other tribes to begin with anyways

I do feel like the recent update has made the city generation a bit odd too there has been a few times where a city has to have spawned as there were resources around it but the resources weren’t within boarder growth boarders of other cities

I think they need to tune down the juggernauts. Certain tribes can just get them too early and make it impossible for anyone else to get any ships on the water. They are really good at blocking ports and protecting bombers I feel most 1v1s now are just a race to the water
Are most 1v1s a race to the water? Yes, you are correct there. Are juggernauts broken, no, not at all. You can just throw riders at them if they are at the shore. Or any other ranged unit.

Why do you wait to promote your units? I can't think of any reasons myself
If they aren't in danger of dying, there's no point in promoting them. In a pinch, it acts as a free heal, which can enable more aggressive plays with an otherwise low-health unit
are crazy bots easier than low elo polytopia players? By low, i mean the default elo
