    Every year I spend a week going through my entire apartment. Anything I haven't used in the past year, I get rid of. Last year I threw out 7 full trashbags of stuff. It's hard to throw stuff out, but it's the only way to not have a mountain of crap in your house.

    I feel your pain! The hoarding is real. I have been dealing with hoarding issues for years. Same as you, it is not like those shows with piles of garbage, etc. all over. I just have too much stuff, and have NO idea where to even start thinning it out. Every time I try, I start saying, "Oh, I may want/need to use that someday...." So yeah, the struggle is real.

      I definitely relate to this comment. I've started to make good changes but it can be easy to get overwhelmed, and end up doing nothing. For me, I just gotta be patient and remember it took time to get this way, and it will take some time to fix. I love music so for me it's all speakers, amps, gear, wires. My basement and garage looks like a stereo/speaker store. Some times I just gotta laugh at myself. Like yeah I'll definitely need that S-video cable some day lol. At least I have good taste, and can sell most of what I don't want. Keep grinding!

  • @Maxxarcade

    I think a lot of us can relate to this. I wish it was easier to sell/donate stuff to good homes. Once you free up the space the cycle starts again, but at least you can mess around with "new" junk for a while. Ebay has gotten to be a nightmare for sellers though.
    9:40 I have nearly that same Compaq case. It's actually pretty well made, and standard Micro-ATX. Mine has an old Core 2 Duo rig in it that I used to use for Linux testing.

    Not sure if you caught my tweets a couple of weeks ago but I basically just went through the same process you did except with ALL of my stuff. I've had to clean up my space and rethink my product-focused content. It was literally unsustainable because I don't even have half the space you do to store stuff and junk was just piling up. I dreaded having to find all the equipment I needed to do things, I couldn't get in the right headspace to be productive and I really don't have the capacity to shoot the stuff I thought I could.
    So I totally feel you with all this cleaning up feeling so good. I feel so much better now that I have less junk to look at and worry about.

    It's like watching my apartment. I recently moved into a new house and my review and not only items are always in the way. It made me feel depressed so I started to make make my heart like stone and start getting rid the most of them.. I know how bad it feels when you are a person who keeps everything but things have to be done..

    I've been on a journey towards minimalism for the past several months and its soooo freeing! The secret is to be able to let go of things. I grew up flipping stuff on ebay so I learned I can always find replacements and there's someone out there who can use it more than me. Eventually you find what you use most and really need, and that's what takes time. Sometimes you just have to drop it off at Goodwill, especially if it's been sitting for so long and selling isn't worth it.

Got rid of bunches of cables I haven't touch in years (BNC, etc.), cartons for stuff I don't own, other's people's belongings in my basement, etc. Got rid of old records (33's) that have no meaning to me, duplicates, etc. You need to skinny down once in while.

    Good way to get rid of a lot of stuff without throwing it away. Sell it in bulk, put it in a large pile on a palette, take some pictures and you can store it efficiently while it’s stacked on a palette, and put the palette up for auction on ebay+200 or so for shipping.

    I'm lucky! I'm in highschool so i don't have any money to hoard stuff. I'd go through and organize everything in a spreadsheet, and decide why you're keeping it, like mark it if you need to make a review, or just want to keep it for some other reason. Then everything else you can get rid of, and slowly go through the list and get rid of everything.

    This certainly brings up an interesting review series called "EposVox's junk: yeah or nah?" Where you'd review stuff that is either ebay worthy, donation worthy, or something to be thrown into the recycle center. That would definitely make up for the funds you dumped into this equipment and keep your house clean in the process :)

  • @420Cris
    @420Cris 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe you should try to make a custom shelving organizer out of wood or plastic, like for your lenses, trace a hole around them and cut it out, and put it at an angle like a storefront, then you could label them too, maybe even a collab with someone who does crafts like that?

  • @FalseKillSwitch
    @FalseKillSwitch 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    TLDW: Bought to review but never did 😅... You need to focus on making the review and selling it immediately, unless its something thats critical for further testing/comparison. Great example would be the ASMR mic, doesn't look like a project that your gonna revisit and the funds would be better spent on your next review/project. Tech comes and goes quite quickly so speed it key for interest and for max resaleability. Either way man looks like your working on it and ill continue to enjoy your content 👍

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the ASMR mic is about to get utilized heavily for headphone reviews - and I didn't buy it so I can't really re-sell it.

    • @FalseKillSwitch

      @@EposVox Exactly just like what I stated before if its something that going to be utilized for further testing then keep it. It was just a random example from the video. But I hope you understand what I'm saying. People do buy items to review and instantly resell just depends on its purpose ect.

  • @idahofur

    I went through this 20 years ago. Got to the point that even with everything organized. If I wanted to do a simple project. I couldn't find anything. Sure I had the correct cable. But what three boxes of cables is it in. The other thing was did I really need 2 or more of an item. Just last year I went though and got rid of my duplicate Minolta film cameras. One would ask how do you end up with the same model. Well until a few years back. Thrift stores in my area was cleaning out complete systems with bag for under $20.00. The bag would include a few lenses I did not have. One would think I would just take the lenses and re-donate the rest and or sell them on e-pay. But no, I just put it with the rest of the cameras. One of the things that help was prices on a-lot of items went back up. Now that film cameras are back in. Problem in the thrift store does not realize the difference between a $150.00 camera bag of goodies compared to a $15.00 bag of goodies. So they mark everything $80.00 . Plus I now have a list I can take with me on items like game systems and cameras. The list is my friend. I also cut down on going to thrift stores.

      It's possible it's capacitors, but there's a LOT of posts online about this specific one after someone unplugs it for the first time in a long time no longer powering on. There's a ROM chip that stores the power state and gets corrupt, apparently. Just needs flashed somehow and should be working again.

    Drinking game: take a shot whenever he says "Make a video on this"
    Seems like a lot of the stuff you keep and don't care for is due to wanting to make a video on it. I think for 2019 you should maybe focus on those items and making 1 video a week or something on your random tech (new or old). Then focus on selling what can be sold and donating what is better donated. Could even make a serious about Selling Tech Online. Your light bulbs can be donated to an apartment complex since they will definitely use them.
    If you are looking for ideas to display items use shelving that is 1'6" from the ceiling and wrap the room with it. Then display all items that will look cool on there!

    Why not start doing giveaway videos for things? Kind of like how Jayz2Centz does it, review, then give away the reviewed product. Doesn't have to be every video, just every so often, make a lighting guide, give away a set of bulbs, related to the released video. Audio interface review? Give away a mic. Something the interested audience who clicked on the video would be interested in.
    I know it is hard to give up things you worked so hard for, but you have to learn where the line is, and know when to cross it when it is something you really don't need anymore.
    Some of those lenses would be fantastic as backdrop items on a shelf; like, try to separate out a pile of things that you could use for backdrop changes, for example anyway.
    Good luck, and be brave! It's okay to donate too, if all else fails!

    Send some stuff my way dawg

  •  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, you got too much stuff. The solution to this problem is always asking yourself if you are really going to use this item. If the anser is no, get rid of it. This can hurt a bit but you will not miss these items. If you don't use an item within a year, you will most likely never use it ever again.
    The other problem is not really all that stuff but *how you store it* . How you store things can dramaticly change how much space you have to store things. For people having so much stuff, custom made shelves would be the best solution. WIth an efficient storage solution, your free space could increase a lot. And it seems like you are storing things very inefficiently. But I can't really tell from a narrow perpective of an video.

      @@jt3000o renting a house just doesn't make sense overall and would cost more for less space.
      Buying one requires great credit and big down payments which we are working on building up this year for a 2020 house. But there's no situation where we'd end up with a better result renting a house right now.
      We're in a 3 bedroom town home apartment, two floors. No hearing neighbors or anything light that. Thick walls. Nothing above or below us other than us
