      His name was Thuo, he was from Eastern Africa (Kenya or Uganda, can't remember) and he never really stopped bouncing when saying aye-aye sir and also never really ever screamed like our drill instructors wanted. Dude was chill as fuck all through bootcamp and went on to become a combat engineer.

      My son went to boot camp and he felt the same way when they got up in his fa e and yeeled he tried not to laugh he thought it was funny. I always looked at the yelling as a bullying effect. But its not the case. When you go to parris island and see the action up close and personal its very overwhelming in a good way.

    I've watched a lot of these. At age 41, it makes me wish I enlisted. While I'm doing great in life now, at 18, I was a wreck. This would had turned me into a man sooner, instead of my 30s. God bless the marines.

      I feel the same way. I work in a county and alot of the inmates THINK I was a marine. So they actually listen and do what they’re told. But my dad and uncles were all in the Marines. I’ve never even came close to being in any type of military.

      You’ll get yelled at when you do something wrong. You’ll get yelled at when you do something right! It’s nothing personal, it’s their job. They tear you down, but if you give it your all, they’ll build you back up a stronger and better person. Once you understand that, it’s easier to make it through. No it’s not for everyone. But there’s been plenty of people who thought they’d never be able to make it, yet they wind up graduating and are now Marines

    There was one in every platoon. In my platoon is last name was Dapoma. He had a habit of slobbering and keeping his mouth open. The Drill Instructor would be in his office and without seeing him, holler "close your mouth Dapoma". Hilarious!!!!

    I just found this video series today. I never thought id have the "pleasure" of revisiting such an incredibly pivotal moment in my life, as this was the day I stepped onto the yellow footprints (im barely visible across all the clips from this day, but im in the back with the bright red shirt with black collar). So many of these faces i remember from Lima Co 3247, and a few of them followed with me through MOS training and into the fleet. What a wild trip, I always wondered if Id ever see the footage that came from the people standing in the back corner with cameras recording us as we were processed, but I never expected to actually find it. Thank you for posting this.

      Chase Lohmeyer I have had people that graduated bootcamp and the they told us about it. we could ask questions and the recruiters would ask them if we asked them questions because its one of only few chances.
      and I just did this last thursday.

    • @D4RKMA7TER
      @D4RKMA7TER 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Chase Lohmeyer I don't know how it would scare them. I think the most "scariest part is just before leaving. I'm leaving August 11 I'm really nervous about it like I don't want to go but I'm still going. Its because its the unknown i guess. but when you get into it. its fine i guess. that's how I am

    • @D4RKMA7TER
      @D4RKMA7TER 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chase Lohmeyer From what I have heard from my recruiters and being around them. they hate one someone drops out because of the work they did to get someone in. Like he managed to get a kid with plates in his arm through MEPS. They say they turn down a lot of people now. and for this RSS they look mostly for reserve contracts. They say we are lucky to be where we are next to the people who want to join but I'm not so sure on that since they keep trying to recruit more and more

    A Friend of my Mom. Her Boyfriend did 17 years in the Marine Corps. And had been a Drill Instructor in San Diego Recruit Depot. The first day I met him. I knew nothing about him. But he gave the vibe as someone you would not want to fuck with. If he was that intense 10 years after retirement. I can imagine what he was like as a Drill Instructor.

    I agree with you, spootboy, 100%. When I wrote, "Give em a break" I wasn't talking about DI's being too tough on recruits, Drill Instructors an outstanding job, they do what needs to be done. I was referring to guy who wrote he "wouldn't want to go into combat w/these guys"..They just arrived & are far from being combat ready. As the proud mother of a US Marine, I have only love, respect & admiration for the Corps & the Drill Instructors who make Marines.. Thanks for letting me clear that up!

    When I wrote "Give 'em a break" I wasn't referring to DI's, they do an outstanding job.. My comments were for the guy that wrote he "wouldn't want to go into combat with these guys", I felt that remark was unfair& premature bc recruits just arrived at bootcamp, that's what I meant..

    My father was a marine in WWII, he said that things in the Marines went nuts after then, he said drill instructors would have been up on charges then for the sadistic stuff they did later. Being a hard ass is one thing, being pointlessly sadistic is another.

    • @napalmsf
      @napalmsf ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. There are definitely a few sadistic bastards who slip through the cracks but I think the Corps. And Mothers of America do a pretty fine job at ensuring that the majority of DIs are truly dedicated to making Marines in a more effective way.

    @crazbadass94 "yes sir" (or "no sir") is when you are answering a question...a sentence or statement directed at you that ends with a question mark.
    "Aye aye sir" is just an acknowledgment to a sentence or statement directed at you that is not in the form of a question.

    I'm amazed by the whole process of indoctrination. They seem to have it down to a science. There's a method to all their madness. They know what their objective is and they know exactly how to reach it. My son joining the Army and my watching these videos has inspired me to look at the history of the armed forces in this country and look at training, etc to inform myself as much as possible. It's really interesting. The Armed Forces Rocks! I've always had MUCH respect.

    Negative on that one Split. Drill Instructor & Recruiting duties are volunteer duties and they are "B" billets (additional duties/MOS's). You have to "apply" (I.E. request) and be selected for both duties (among many other "B" billets). I retired a few years ago as a Gunnery Sergeant (E-7) and although I did recruiting duty, it was a choice and not a requirement.

    So in a way, they make themselves angry so the recruits can grow stronger in power.
    Not a type of tactic i have seen before, but it seems to work.
    Thanks for the answer!

    GySgt working contraband? A gunny is usually the NCOIC of receiving barracks. You most often will see SSgts and sergeants, pulled from the drill field for receiving barracks duty, doing this job. Although now it is no longer called receiving barracks but uses a different name or so I hear. I miss the old red bricks that was the floor in receiving. Gad those things were polished to a super high shine.

    In 1971 I went to MCRD San Diego, things were a hell of a lot different ,if you made a mistake you got stomped in the ground cussed at and pt till you dropped ! as for utility's you were issued one set one pair of socks one pair of skives (under wear) and a pair of tennis shoes It was tough but that's what they thought you to be and the next 8 weeks were pure hell but in the end at graduation and they handed you that EGA you were proud of what you have become ... A United States Marine.

    The Air Force is the lightest boot camp in all of the Armed Forces. The term training is a broad term. As far as initial training, Marine Corps and Army Combat OSUT are the hardest basic training programs. As far as overall training? Navy SEALs, Army Rangers, Green Beret, and other Special Forces & Special Operations Training programs.

    This is just a test to see if u have any itch to question authority left in u at all...
    At war its not gonna be like this all day, but they dont wanna get u into a battlefield only to have u waste time questioning ur superior officers decision or judgement.

    Most of the time you just need to Sound Off as Loud as possible because during Phase 1 you won't even understand what your Green Belts are saying remember you won't even get the Elementary Stuff because you'll be so confused just try to Move Quick Sound Off because you don't want to be the Booger Recruit. MCRD was Good to Go I loved it but I was nervous at first but it was a challenge and experience that I'm proud that I made through. 10 years to the day I was on my way to MCRD Parris Island.

    @Beansy149 So true. It was the the same at Navy boot camp. The job of the DI is to weed out people who can't hack it. That kid will quit if he can't take it, and if that happened, he had no business being a Marine. If he can take it and graduate, he will make a good Marine.

    @CDresden13 The Marines are usually the first to be sent to combat so they are brutally trained so they may survive in combat with the bare necessities. That is why the Marine Corps is less funded than some of the other branches of the military because they were trained to survive on so little. I wanna join in two years when I'm 19 and I just can't explain why I want to join and neither could anyone else I talked to who wants to join.

Company 1stMP BN., FLC 1969-1970.
