If you do take the plunge and buy this game I strongly recommend you watch a few tutorials or lets plays as the game has a bit of a learning curve, I took to it pretty easy but I read that a lot of people are struggling.
hey Mack when did you last sit back and have time to enjoy a game? always seems like you have to rattle out the reviews so quickly, and often they are big games like this.
Worth A Buy There’s a far cry 5 DLC video trailer that has been released on Vietnam, Mars, and Zombies. Are you going to make a reaction of that video or will you make a Worth a Buy once the full game releases?
It was a while ago tbh, my life is 100mph atm but tonight I had to draw the line, i had planned to do another video but I felt a bit ill, been really hard this last month, I could not even play a game tonight, so i took the night off, watched The Rookie (old movie) and 3 episodes of Hells kitchen, off to bed now.
Just picked it up for $11 on steam. If you were on the fence grab it now. I’m having fun. It’s a nice relaxing hide from the world for 6 hours kind of game.
Why wouldn't there be wind on Mars? It's got an atmosphere. The atmosphere is piddly thin at 0.6% of Earth's, so the wind wouldn't be a strong as on Earth. But it is still there.
You're right. I r not even work for nasa. I do have access to a database of a good chunk of their research and findings though, which is where I got that info from. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmosphere_of_Mars en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_of_Mars#Atmospheric_properties_and_processes The air pressure is much less on Mars but they have some pretty high wind speeds. So if the wind was going 60mph on Mars, it would exert the same pressure as a 7.2mph wind on Earth.
3:58 Boils down to realism, plenty of space nuts out there, myself included, who don't mind setting up a sustainable colony based on hard science. Solar and nuclear power generators would be the way to go at first. Mars itself has no magnetic field to protect against solar radiation. Means the first settlers would probably move underground or use extra dirt/ice/water layers _if_ set up on the surface. The soil is way different (toxic), harder to grow a food supply, lot of things that make the early colony days quite difficult... But you sacrifice or ignore a few of these details for the fun and visuals, i get that. Much like "The Martian" made a dust storm powerful enough to rip a radar dish off and make it a projectile, in order to get the story going. Still love it either way.
For anyone reading this in 2022 who still hasn't played Surviving Mars yet... The game is currently free on Prime gaming for Amazon Prime members: "For a limited time only, get the full game on the Epic Games Store. This offer is applicable to PC only. Prime members have the ability to claim Surviving Mars until April 1, 2022."
Actually, there IS wind on Mars. In real life is has been thanks to the occasional dust devil cleaning the dust from the rover's solar panels, that has kept the rover going as long as it has.
fcukugimmeausername I agree, nothing special other than some really compelling side quests. Definitely not a bad game but certainly the best or one of the best games ever made, unless you're a normie who is new to the rpg genre.
3:85 Actually there *is* wind on Mars, and while the amount of power you'd be able to extract with wind power is significantly lower then on Earth, the same holds true for solar power, and wind power would produce the most power exactly when solar power would produce the least so those two cancel eachother out. Also it's more likely that we'd be able to produce wind power fairly early on while solar power in reality (not the game) would require quite a bit more infrastructure to set up. (Although granted, there's some experiments that's been done with the idea of just essentially baking the soil into a crude solar power of sorts with some chemistry, but there you'd get even *less* power out of it) But yeah, the game is pretty neat. =) Have you tried the other Paradox games out there? Crusader Kings 2 with the way of life DLC is probably my own favorite, but I also enjoy Stellaris (without the latest patch) and Hearts of Iron 4. =)
Is it just me, or do most Paradox games end up being excellent? Obviously their dlc policy has a lot to be desired, particularly on their grand strategy games(e.g. hearts of iron, europa universalis, etc), but the majority of their games seem to do really well. This, Stellaris, the other grand strategy games, Pillars of Eternity, Battletech, Cities Skylines, Sword of the Stars, Age of Wonders, Tyranny, and so on.
I was pretty skeptical of this game, but your review has got me feeling a bit better about it. I might purchase it soon, still not fully sure. I've just become really picky each year, just more and more games that aren't enjoyable or worth the price for what you get. Plus, just lots of garbage too.
how ist that worth a buy Mack. After 2 Games one 50% and one around 300% its over with "replayability". The game has just 3-5 boring main missions like: research 40 techs in 100 day or scan 40 Anomalies in 100 days, these are WOW starter quests :D (so much for story or immersion). And the Lack of content and managing ability..... maybe after 5 dlcs with a huge amount of mods and at a price like 15 - 19,99 it would be worth a buy.
Paradox gave us loads of amazing games, City skylines, Stellaris, Hearts of Iron, Steel division. Sure they like their DLC's which is a shame but they do seem to publish some of the best strategy games made.
I agree, yes, they gave us very good grand strategy games, however as an old die hard Paradox Fan... I can't accept this policy. I mean they seperate core elements of the game into MANY DLCs making the main game almost an empty shell. eg Crusader Kings 2 and Europa Universalis 4. Infront of them, Creative Assembly, is a kindergarden... (also, I got noticed from Senpai! :D ) Arigato!
Well, are YOU one of these guys who say Game Publishers SELL SERVICES ahahaha! Give us a break dude... If you were poor you would be a communist I bet... Anyway Again, this is not an excuse. To seperate core game element from the Main Title to little and many DLCs... I mean... COME ON DUDE obviously you haven t NOTICED THAT THEY SELL THE MUSIC OF A DLC sepererately in another DLC. HOW REDICULUS IS THIS!
It is because of the locale, I live in Thailand and that means prices reflect local markets on steam and therefore are most of the time lower than Europe for instance
10 Pounds could be a visit in the Cinema and the movie could be bad also. Here you get a very good game were you'll end up with multiple hours having fun so how in the world is 45 or even 60 Pounds not worth a good game?
Bill Hill you forget the disparity between the income and cost of living. $10 in not the same everywhere. In some regions you could live like a king for month for that much, while in other you couldn't even afford a dinner.

So much replayability because of the gameplay options. So go get it.
I bought Rimworld last year and really enjoy it. I had this game on my wishlist but decided against it for now. Too busy with Stellaris, Order of Battle: WWII and The Division currently.
I think the only thing that puts me off on this one is the price and the same thing for battle tech. Expensive games that I think should be at least 20-25 dollars. Waiting for a sale on both of these games.
Bought this on Xbox and I absolutely love this game. Everything you do in this game makes sense and are well thought out. Love the art and sound/music also... there is so much to do in this game.... Oh and I just knew you would love this little gem of a game Mack😊👍
There are like 3 different versions already, up to 75$, and 45$ for a bit of DLC and a season pass. Shoulda made it the 40$ all included, and then maybe the season pass on the side. otherwise up to 120$ for all the bits and bobs, pass.
The game is complete as it is now so you are literally passing on a very good game. DLC's are brilliant if they add new content to a complete game, it's when publishers hold back content that is already in the base game and sell as a DLC that causes problems.
I have been waiting for a game like this since Space Colony. Planet Base was kinda close but for some reason I didnt like it/ suit me.... (maeby it was because of weird AI and pirates)

Planetbase was much better strategy than this. This game doesn't even have graphs that show trends over time nor the ability to control the flow of population or resources.
