I've been looking everywhere for this! Thank you so much for posting it. One of the greatest games I've ever seen. The Minnesota Twins were quite the team in 2008 and 2009, a team that nobody expected to do anything yet somehow found a way to get it done. Hopefully that Piranha Magic will be back to the Twin Cities soon. Go Twins!
Rewatching this awesome game in the absence of live baseball. Wow, the drama. And wow, to be reminded of what a great job Ron Darling did in the booth.
this game is a prime example of why i love baseball it had everything back and forth what a game i remember watching this game as a 10 year old kid this is one of the best baseball games i have ever watched i will never forget this game
Now that the world has gone into a lockdown for the Corona Virus outbreak of 2019-20, we venture back in time to a happy place for us Minnesota sports fans. I remember listening to this game on the radio and let me tell you it doesn't get much better than the ending of this game!! Edit: I've come to this video from theScore's piece on the 20 classic baseball games to watch in the MLB's vault. Definitely worth checking out!! Edit: Edit: I hope this finds you in good health!!
I was there with 2 friends. We were in the ABSOLUTE last row in the 2nd deck in right-center field. It was AMAZING! The 2nd greatest game in Metrodome history, right ahead of #3 (Game 6-1991 World Series with Kirby's "And we'll see you, TOMORROW NIGHT" walk off homerun) and just behind #1 (Game 7-1991 World Series with Morris' 10 inning shutout and Larkin's hit to win it all-"The Twins are gonna win the World Series. The Twins have WON IT. It's a base hit. It's a 1-0, 10-inning victory.
I was casually listening to this game on the radio at the time. I'm not a baseball fan, but I am a Minnesotan, and I just wanted to keep tabs with the score, it being such a big game. From time to time I would leave the radio, and hear it only from a distance. Time and time again the radio announcer would start screaming his head off and it kept drawing me back to the radio. After about 2 hours of this, I finally decided I had to sit and listen. Then the announcer starts going nuts again, and finishes with " Oh what a ball game !". Incredibly, the best was yet to happen.
I remember I had recently moved the South Texas that year but flew up to meet the girlfriend and spend some time with her. She had the work that night and so I watched the game but what I remember the most was walking the dog. The wind was blowing that crisp fall weather with the chill in the air. One of the only times I ever got homesickness in my life. Imagine what these teams could have been had. They had an ownership that actually invested in them.
Greatest Twins game I have ever seen in my life!! I remember after Alexi Casilla drove in the winning run, I ran all around my college dorm out in western New York state screaming and shouting for joy. I didn't care what anyone thought. Haha.
And in that series with the Evil Empire, we would have come home from New Yawk tied 1-1 if Phil Cuzzi hadn't outright CHEATED on Mauer's double down the left field line in extra innings.
As someone who is relatively new to baseball and has no idea how this match ended, I am sitting watching this at the top of the 7th thinking SHIT IS ABOUT TO GO DOWN!
4:38:46 Chip Caray: Pitch bounce. Right Side. Base Hit. Here comes Gomez around 3rd. THERE'LL BE NO PLAY!!! The Twins Have Won The Central! Minnesota Twins 2009 AL Central Division Champions
I was a yankees fan back in their run for the 09 WS, I decided to watch this game on ESPN to figure out who would face off against the Yanks in the ALDS. I was watching the game when my parents told me to go to bed but I went into my room and turned the TV on with no volume and stayed up to probably 12 at night ( I was 10 so midnight was pretty badass) to finish watching the game.
Already know the result of this but as a tigers fan I’m re-experiencing the same emotions I felt 9 years ago. Damn the bottom 3 of that lineup & damn that bullpen lol. Tigers bullpen is cursed
+양준모 Absolutely. It clearly graced the jersey, so it did hit him. I'm taking nothing away from the Twins, but as a Tigers fan, that was such a huge no-call that changed the entire complexion of the game.
2nd greatest game in Twins history...just above Game 6 of the 1991 World Series with Kirby's iconic homerun and just below Game 7 of the 1991 World Series with Jack Morris' 10-inning shutout masterpiece.
I mean, im not sure why they mentioned his blood alcohol level when he wasnt even driving? You cant get arrested for being drunk in your own home. The crime he committed was assault/domestic violence
Twins caught a HUGE break in the scheduling of this game. Had the game been played when tiebreakers are normally played the Twins starting pitching would have been in flux. But due to the Vikings Monday night game the night before that pushed this game back to Tuesday Scott Baker was able to start for the Twins on full(4 days) rest.
Basically oct 4-6 mn was the center of the baseball world. Oct 4- final regular season game for the twins Oct 5- Brett Farves first game against the packers in a vikings uniform Oct 6- game 163
Unfortunately, This Would Be The Last Win At The Old Metrodome For The Minnesota Twins. The Yankees (Who Won The 2009 World Series) Would Win The ALDS And Would Shut The Metrodome Down In Which The Twins Would Move To Target Field The Next Year. That's A Shame.
Unfortunately? This was one of the best games in Twins history yeah it would've been nice to win in the playoffs but this was a historic game that twins fans like me will remember forever
I’m confused. Are you saying that had th Tigers won this game, they would have stopped the Yankees in the ALDS? As a Tiger fan, as awesome that would have been, NY would have taken it easily, though I think the Tigers would have managed to make it a little harder for them and may have won a game.
Greatest game I have ever watched.
Dane Schad me too, and I'm a Tigers fan.. it was the best played game I ever seen
Also a tigers fan, I agree. Extremely competitive & nerve wrecking
A game between two mediocre teams fighting for the privilege of getting beat down by the Yankees.
Clearly you don't watch many games.

Casilla was always in the spotlight!! One of the most talented players to be homegrown for the Twins in their history
greatest twins game in recent memory since 1991 was about two lifetimes ago!

I did not expect this to start with a Miguel Cabrera "domestic incident" update
Somewhat of a forgotten game, but a great game nonetheless.
As a Tigers fan my whole life, I've had more than my share of heartbreak.....but this game might just rank at the top.
I agree. Well we can remember that the Twins finished last in 2011 and the Tigers won the division. Also the Tigers have Gardy has their manager.
Dude this game is a fucking trip for a Tigers fan. The broadcast opens with a detailed description of Miggy’s domestic and its all downhill from there

Best game ever..... I was on the edge of my seat the whole night.

I love that line..."The Metrodome will not go down so easily." LOL!!!!

RIP Craig Sager.

3:54:03 "Line drive, base hit!...caught out there!" Oops.
I wonder if that slip up would cost Chip Caray his job at TBS after the NLCS.
OMG THIS GAME! I found it! One of the best all time.
one of the greatest regular season games ever
Good enough for opening day. What a great game! I miss the 2002-2010 club.
And in that series with the Evil Empire, we would have come home from New Yawk tied 1-1 if Phil Cuzzi hadn't outright CHEATED on Mauer's double down the left field line in extra innings.
you still would have lost the series
As someone who is relatively new to baseball and has no idea how this match ended, I am sitting watching this at the top of the 7th thinking SHIT IS ABOUT TO GO DOWN!
I was at this game. I was 14 and it was awesome

Minnesota Twins
2009 AL Central Division Champions
Raburn throwing the guy out at home plate was one of the most memorable moments I've ever had at a bar.
which part was it when the final regular season home run was hit?
I was a yankees fan back in their run for the 09 WS, I decided to watch this game on ESPN to figure out who would face off against the Yanks in the ALDS. I was watching the game when my parents told me to go to bed but I went into my room and turned the TV on with no volume and stayed up to probably 12 at night ( I was 10 so midnight was pretty badass) to finish watching the game.
The game was not on ESPN
4:24:45 The Inge jersey HBP controversy in the top of the 12th inning with the bases loaded
WHO IS THE ANNOUNCER
Cabrera's Go Ahead Home Run In The Bottom Of The 7th. 2:24:02
4:38:45 Casilla’s game winning hit!
Lol at 6:45 the pitcher just full-on licks the ball
Correction...Raburn tried for the SPORTS CENTER catch and paid the price.
3:54:09 "LINE DRIVE BASE HIT!"
*caught out there*
when a game's so hype you cant call plays correctly
2008 tiebreaker please
God damn bro maybe tune down on all the ads a little bit
Mauer is the only one that starting lineup still with the Twins. Even Gardy's gone. Good times.
And Mauer Retired
@@futuregohan4837 And Gardy's gone from the Tigers. What will happen next? Time will pass yet further?
Thanks to the umpires and Ryan Raburn trying to dive instead of playing it by hop, the tigers lost even though Raburn had that assist.
The Collapse Happened For Detroit & The Title For Minnesota Complete. 4:38:39
Oh really? How did the Twins do in 2011 and how did the Tigers do in 2011? Also where has Gardy gone?
@@monabiehl6213 cause gardys just doin sooo good with the 114 losses in the last full season
Already know the result of this but as a tigers fan I’m re-experiencing the same emotions I felt 9 years ago. Damn the bottom 3 of that lineup & damn that bullpen lol. Tigers bullpen is cursed
4:24:46 wrong decision
+양준모 Absolutely. It clearly graced the jersey, so it did hit him. I'm taking nothing away from the Twins, but as a Tigers fan, that was such a huge no-call that changed the entire complexion of the game.
This play by play announcer BLOWS!!!!
I am a Yankee fan and I watched this hoping the twins would win because the Tigers always beat the Yanks in the playoffs.
Game winner
2nd greatest game in Twins history...just above Game 6 of the 1991 World Series with Kirby's iconic homerun and just below Game 7 of the 1991 World Series with Jack Morris' 10-inning shutout masterpiece.
3:54:03 line drive base hit caught out there runner tags here it comes throw to plate all target and in time a double play
Rayburn should've allowed the base hit and let it drop in front of him so he could play it on a hop.
I mean, im not sure why they mentioned his blood alcohol level when he wasnt even driving? You cant get arrested for being drunk in your own home. The crime he committed was assault/domestic violence
3:54:11 Line drive base hit!! 😒
Their second to last good year
gran juego
Weather In Out
Temperature 68° 44°
Humidity 10% 93%
Raining NO YES
Because the Metrodome is definitely big enough to have its own weather cycle...
Shut up bitch

You're Point Being?
Fernando Rodney. That is all.
im here because of tomorrow
The game that won the Yankees the World Series

game is forgotten because the twins have no fanbase outside minnesota.
Poor girl had a coughing fit @ 4:17:50 lol

And only Ron Gardenhire can turn that high into a pathetic low like he did against the Yankees the next few days.
