Thanks for posting. The Cubs had a great year that year plus since there is no baseball I can get my fix now. What a great line up too!

Eventhough I grew up as a Braves fan, I managed to tune into WGN to watch the Cubs game on Cable 📺. My childhood was awesome!

Ironically, Pete Rose would be officially banned from baseball the very next morning (August 24, 1989) by then commissioner A. Bart Giamatti. This was the second game the Reds played under interm manager Tommy Helms as Cincinnati's 6-5 victory in 10 innings two days before against the Cubs in Chicago (on August 21, 1989, the first game of this series) was Pete Rose's last game as manager of the Cincinnati Reds. Man I do I remember that summer in baseball, especially because of this scandal.

Pete Rose really should have been suspended earlier in the year, instead they (MLB Baseball) let it drag out for this long. The Reds were finished before the season started

I was at this game a few days before my 10th birthday. I remember the play at the plate where Walton was called out. There were some fans in my section trashing the umpire thinking Walton was safe. When the ump got hit in the next inning they were still doing it. "That's what you get for calling Walton out." I was just a kid following along and repeated it. My dad didn't say anything. He just looked at me and shook his head letting me know that was wrong. Without saying a word he taught me that the umpire's health is more important than a blown call during a baseball game. And not that it matters but I still can't tell if it was even a blown call in the first place.

Imagine my surprise when I found this game on TH-cam. I was AT this game. One of my first ever games at Wrigley Field. I still have the Ticket stub. Complete with the price of $7.00

Hey thanks so much for uploading this. I don't suppose you have, or know where to find the Cubs at Reds September 7, 1986 Greg Maddux complete game win at 20 years old!! Would love to see that entire game. Thanks again for your great uploads!

Greg Maddux dealing in 1989. Greg Maddux steal dealing in 2007 when I watched him as a kid with the Padres. One of the best to ever pitch 👏

Love watching these old games!! Huge favor buddy. My father lives in Chicago. When I was little he was a train conductor. Out of Memphis he took me to Wrigley 30 times a year since I was 8. He is declining in health being diagnosed with Parkinson's. In 1987 in St Louis John Tudor shut us out 8-0. Afte4 one of Gary Mathews groundouts Harry says my family's name. The VhS was ruined. Any chance at all that game is somewhere. My Dad would flip out!! Ty and hope you can help a diehard relive a good one.

26:47 - "Pete Rose back in Cincinnati for the birth of his daughter," Steve Stone says. No, Pete Rose was back in Cincinnati preparing to be banned from baseball for life the very next day.

As excited as I am about the 2016 Cubs, the 1989 will always be my favorite. They probably had no business winning the division (as 1990 would prove), but everything went right for them. Walton, Smith, Bielecki, Lancaster, and several of their utility players had career years and were pretty much never heard from again. This was Dawson's last legit year. My dad took my brother and me to the first game of this three-game series. That's when Jerome Walton's hitting streak came to an end.

I don't care if you're post is over 5 years old. You're getting blasted for this. You said 1989 was Andre Dawson's last legit year. Are you out of your mind? How about looking up stats before you make a post. Dawson's stats for his last four seasons with the Cubs starting at 1989 and his last four seasons as a player with Boston and Florida:
      1989 Cubs - .252 21HR 77 RBI
      1990 Cubs - .310 27HR 100 RBI
      1991 Cubs - .272 21HR 104 RBI
      1992 Cubs - .277 22HR 90 RBI
      1993 Bos - ..273 13HR 67 RBI
      1994 Bos -. 240 16HR 48 RBI
      1995 Fla -.257 8HR 37 RBI
      1996 Fla -.276 2HR 14 RBI
So there, it looks to me that Dawson had FOUR MORE legit years AFTER 1989! Make sure you have your facts straight before you make such a bold, presumptuous and false statement.

There was a huge sign in the outfield, held by multiple people, "Hey Pete, pick the Cubs in Six". I have never forgot this sign. Is this in the video?

This may sound silly, but I must ask you if you have any WGN Cubs broadcasts from that year that have that super-cheesy "Cubs Power" music? I've been looking everywhere for it and can't find it. I was twelve that year and hardly ever missed a game.

Poor Mitch, pitching in a losing game and his catcher is not really a catcher.. Undoubtedly his worst pitching appearance of all time.
