Thanks for doing the hard work of figuring out how to do this, and sharing it with the rest of us Patriot owners. The manufacturers make what should be simple jobs difficult so we have to go to a dealer and pay astronomical prices for a simple bulb change.
2012 Jeep Patriot front blinker went out suddenly. I wish there was a dash warning before you get the hyper speed blinker click letting you know its dead. I was able to change my rear blinker months ago so i think i can try this out. Found your video easily after searching"changing front blinker on jeep patriot" saw you posted 2 years ago and people are still getting help from it. thanks for posting!
Thanks for the helpful video. I went to change out the same bulb in my wife's car and was dumbfounded with how they designed this. I figured those panels had to come off to access the bulb. You did a great job walking through the process. Thanks again, have a blessed day.
FYI, everyone has leftover bulb grease from those packets they sell you when you buy the bulbs. I use the extra generously around the socket to make the installation go easier. It may even help to keep water/dirt out of the area. Hope this helps.
You seriously made this job much easier. After buying a 2011 Jeep Patriot the right bulb (not the left) went out 3 days later. Arrrrgggghhhh. Thank you so much for the detailed instructions and the "watch out for" comments.
Just to let you know those tabs have a round piece in the middle you pull out first. Then the rest of the tab will pull out easier without breaking. Thanks for the video. It was very helpful.
Thought I'd try reaching the bulb from the engine compartment & noticed the bulb was already out of the rear of the lens. I moved it & the bulb started working. I'll take the piece off from inside the wheel well today & get it back in. Thanks for the video upload. All the questions are now solved, lol what an idiot way to make bulb replacing so hard. Obviously I have the same situation (same side) ... my question is why couldn’t they just have that turn signal panel fixture pop out? Like you just said. My goodness they do things completely reverse to reality. I swear the manufactures are not bright! Thanks for the How to video. Looks like I’m going to need it. Thank you for the info on changing the turn signal bulb on my 2014 Jeep Patriot. Like you said it wasn't easy but the job had to be done. I had a lot of condensation inside the lens so I got a lot of it out with my compressor. Thank you for the video it was real helpful and I subscribed to your channel.
Thanks for the video it really helped. Only thing I had to do different was to pull back the wheel well even further and get to the bulb from the top instead of the bottom. I could not get my big hands in far enough from the bottom. Thank you!
For those with weak grip or a stubborn light assembly that won’t twist out; try using an adjustable wrench to get around the assembly. I had to cock the wrench a slight bit but it got on enough to loosen the assembly. Careful not to wrench too hard on it or, whole thing is plastic and not made to take abuse.
Tom, are there pinch pins on the sides of the bulb socket that have to be squeezed/pinched in to turn the socket? It just won't move. Budges a bit, but won't twist out. Thanks for any insight...
I replaced the assembly for my blinker light last year and the hardest part was getting the fender well open with those clips. I have to replace the one on the opposite side now, and I was hoping there was another way.
Just finished this hell. My arms look like the family cat and a rose bush had a tug-of-war. Tightening the housing clockwise on the driver’s side was the worst. I recommend trying to get two hands in there if you can. Next time I’m taking it to the shop. Never buying a jeep or any car with plastic rivets again. Thanks for the video.
Old car parts are very easy to remove and replace. But Removing a signal light on a Patriot: That was a struggle. It was hard to twist the socket back. And I had to scrape the entry points just to snug it back.
If you carefully pull downward on the center of the plastic clips, they are re-usable. Also, if you do not have a 7mm socket, an 11/32" works OK..... I pulled off the wheel, and was able to get more room to pull back the inner fender skirt a bit more. Then, after rotating the socket loose, I could bring the entire assembly out to work on it.
I had my right front signal light bulb changed. It turned out to be a short so it only worked for a second here and there. I saw the frayed wire when he was changing the bulb but he didn't have time to repair it. Now every light on my dash comes on and flashes, 4 wheel drive seems to actually kick in. Its the same year as yours but its a limited Any advice? Can I still drive it for now?
How did you manage to turn it counterclockwise? Getting to that part was quick but after 2 people and 30 minutes of trying I gave up. Neither of us were able to get it to turn.
Good video. If you can get your hand up there, you have me beat. I had to remove the screw holding the corner of the very upper corner of the bumper in place (same as the three you just removed). At that point push the corner of the bumper forward, but only after putting a plastic pry tool in the space between the turn signal top and the body to keep the warped plastic there from hanging up as you push the bumper forward otherwise it will catch on the body and you can’t push the corner of the bumper forward. With the bumper forward, you have full access to the socket. And yes the turning of the socket is insanely difficult!!! Pliers, adjustable wrench, etc is likely your only choice. That said, I would suggest a bunch of blue tape to protect your paint in this process!!! Poor design for sure. The stealer-ship can eat my dirty shorts if they think I’m going to pay their rate for this one! But while you are at it and have the tools and the newly acquired knowledge, you might has well continuously cuss the jeep designers in the process and change the bulb on the other side. It’s just a matter of time before it goes as well.
3:30 there is a bolt right above this left middle finger......simply unbolt that one.....the whole panel slides open and you can easily access the light...your welcome...
This was really well done, thanks! I’ve got that same issue and wow, is it frustrating! I’m having trouble getting the panel to fit back properly, it seems like the holes and riveya on the bottom won’t line up. Did you run into any issues with that? Or did it slide back into place fairly easily?
On my ‘08 Patriot those plastic fasteners on the bottom screw out. The middle part pulls out about a half inch then you have to turn them out the rest of the way! Could have been why yours broke coming out. On the one behind the wheel the middle part pulls straight out without any turning though, strange they couldn’t just use the same fastener all around
The jeep knows when the lights going out and will click quickly as a warning. I changed the lights be its still clicking like its going out. Any idea how to reset that?
Thank you for your video. I had to replace a broken light housing and not just the light. I found the exact same issue but made some executive decisions...(1) I released the 3 bolts and the plunger-rivets, (2) I CUT the panel at the crease so that I can see the 3 anchor screws on the light housing, (3) I used my drill with an 8" extension and my torx to remove the light housing, (4) I then replaced and reattached all the bolts for the wheel well and re-attached the 'cut' section with a zip tie. 10 minutes. Good luck
Any one know the brand and model # of the replacement plastic rivets? I have been looking for those for my 2014 Jeep Patriot with no luck. The ones I found were too small. Thank you.
And so now, that patriot will rattle on for the remainder of it's days, while the electrical circuits systematically stop functioning as they do in my 2013 Compass.
I started out clicking on another video about the same subject that didn't show how. The car salespersons will tell you people buying cars do not ask about fixing them.
Considering the major design blunders the automotive industry has been forcing mechanical engineers to do, I wouldn't be shocked if a federal serviceability requirement would be next just to force the industry to stop the majorly idiotic mistakes they have been making
I know why their so hard to get out ...so you'll have to go to a dealer and pay outrageous prices just for them to use their "specialized tool" to get them out and put another one in ...!!!

Tired of getting flipped off because people can't see my front signals and don't want my wife being harassed or worse.

They do it so that you have to bring your car into the shop. That’s why I prefer older cars

I got it out, but it seems the socket is broken. Can this socket be unmounted? It has a red sliding thingy but I cannot pull it appart.

This just happened to me , I replaced the bulb and the turning light works but the Run light doesn’t , do you know what might be the reason?
I could only suggest a bad bulb out of the package, bad socket or a wiring issue.

I believe 3157 is for the rear signal indicator
