- President Obama paid homage to a few of the country's treasured talents Sunday night, including George Lucas and Carole King. Scott Pelley reports on 2015's class of honorees at the Kennedy Center Honors.
Wow, Aretha Franklin's talent just takes my breath away. Her appeal crosses all kinds of boundaries. I can't believe that she can sing like that at 73 years old.
I know right. I was blown all the way away.
How beautiful Carole king got more enjoyment from what I am sure was her own idol singing her song. That’s love, generosity she wasn’t cheering for herself she was ecstatic to support the powerhouse of Aretha and not because it was her song - she could have recorded it herself - what’s true artistry. So for all the haters dissing her energy can’t you appreciate it’s too brilliant women enjoying their contribution and truly enjoying it for their own parts. That’s what is even more beautiful than two crazy hypnotic talents the world experienced. I feel they were as happy for each other even beyond the potus and flotus having their own moments - it didn’t ruin their connection. It was palpable. I hope I get that excited at that age and jump on my chair rather than politely clap along! What amazing ladies at any age. God bless their talent and collaboration x
Aretha Franklin, shut it down tonight singing Natural Women. I thought Carole King, and Viola Davis were going to jump off that balcony. They really enjoy Aretha singing. The entire house did, and when she came out of that coat, the crowd went wild. To hell with people complaining about a damn coat. If you eat meat, you are no better, they killed it too. All I want to talk about is her awesome singing, and the crowed up on their feet before she even finished the song.

When this show airs on TV and internet I hope they show her FULL PERFORMANCE. Instead of cutting it short and only show some of it. I hate when TV networks always cut Aretha's performance short for the TV viewing audience. If the performance is 4:35 long then let us see all 4:35. Don't cut it short to only 3:00 for TV viewing. I can't stand when they do that kind of stuff.

+Joey Michael Carole King write the song. It's certainly your prerogative to start a petition. Doubt you'll be successful but have at it.
I dont know that a petition would be the correct approach, but a ban or a boycott on music like this is certainly in proper order...I know this is being ultra sensitive, but if we let this go, than what would be next, its just honorably that this song doesn't include transgender women and their struggles, to be as natural as possible...

Did He really suggest that banning, changing and issuing an apology for a 49-year old song, co-written by a man AND women about loving an undefined person (lyrics do not specify male/female), was appropriate because it doesn't make a niche community feel natural? Never mind that the White House was all aglow in favor of rainbow choices in 2015. Now, people who loved this song for the performance must never listen to it again? To your point, a petition is not likely to be successful, if not for the SELFISH context of the demand. Imagine if ALL songs from 1967 to present were gender-washed to be neutral or inclusive solely to ensure that people who were not born female would always feel like a "natural" woman with cramps and hormone problems to suit. If anyone needs the lyrics to a song changed to validate being "natural" or even "normal," they have problems a petition won't solve😳 Aretha still has it!
VisualDisplay07 yes, that's the exact suggestion.... I think this song is very beautiful and moving. It doesn't say that the person making one feel like a natural woman is male or female. I'll continue to listen to it and enjoy it.
It must be a trademark, when Aretha takes the coat out , just like that. I cryed when The Queen died.

Huge Aretha fan, here, but I have to say that I was disturbed that she was frocked up in a coat made of a whole bunch of dead animals who lived tortured lives until they became a coat. Dam, Aretha, you really let me down. I don't have any RESPECT for those who adorn themselves in dead animal fur, but I'm still lovin' your music, Aretha. I did say a prayer for all the dead animals that you dropped on the floor, young lady.

Carole King should have been phtoshopped out of this video. Any enjoyment by Aretha Franklin was frankly ruined by the painful and cringeworthy over reaction by Carole King. She was utterly painful to watch.
Yes Aretha is awesome, of course, but Carole wrote the song & isn’t on stage stealing any limelight from a woman she wanted to gift it too. Now so many artists don’t even pretend to write but hey some

I think is her heroine and vice versa - also CK is sat next to the Obama’s looking like she came from a hippie retreat - god bless her whether she did or didn’t but she is just so thrilled to enjoy this performance from Aretha/ she cheers for Aretha and doesn’t realize the president cries ?! Michelle and her are like boy band groupies it’s brilliant! And enjoying themselves truly. Pls god I’m like that at that age and throwing off clothes like I’m Rihanna lol xx
