  • Chess Openings: Learn to Play the Scotch Gambit!
    The Scotch Gambit is one of the best chess openings for white against e5. It is an e4 opening, and combines ideas from other chess gambits such as the Goring Gambit, Danish Gambit, and Evan's Gambit. In today's video we cover the chess opening theory, chess opening strategy, and chess opening principles. We hope to help you improve at chess by the learning these tricks and traps that can help you win games fast. Want to improve at chess? Want an opening with a ton of traps the opponent can fall into? Want a fun but sound chess gambit for white? If your answer is yes to all these questions, the Scotch Gambit might just be for you! We hope you enjoy it.

    As a life long Scotch Gambit player, I wish I had this video when I started. Very well done for the amount of theory there is. I sometimes uses this to get into the Max Lange. I have since moved on to the Jobava London (which I would love to see you cover - hint) but occasionally, I like to dust off my favorite 1e4 line when my opponents don't play the Sicilian, French, Caro Kan, and Petroff (which is why I switched to the Jobava in the first place) . This video will be nice resource for those times when I go back. Thanks!

      Glad you found this video helpful! I made a couple Scotch Gambit videos when I first started but thought I'd revisit it in more depth. That's cool you play the Scotch Gambit it's a fun opening with a long history.

    Great analysis of the Scotch gambit - I have been playing this opening for over a year now, but it never hurts to brush up on the theory. Keep up the good work Sir.

      Hey Stefan! Glad you enjoyed it man, and nice opening choice! I've been playing it on and off since I was 8 or so - great gambit option for white!

    Nice video! I recently started studying the Scotch system and your video was very well presented with many relevant lines. One line I didn't see covered is the Sarratt Variation which is ...Bc5 Ng5 Nh6 with the point of sacrificing the knight on f7 and picking up the bishop on c5 with Qh5+. The Max Lange Attack is another critical line that should probably be covered in a Scotch video. Also, in Fishbein's book he doesn't recommend f3 and f4 immediately in the Advance Variation (...Nf6 e5 d5 Bb5) because it allows black to play Qb8. Instead, he recommends f3 Ng5 Be3!? Bb6 f4 Nxe4 Nd2. Maybe it would be a good idea to make a part II video if you haven't already. Thanks for the well presented video. Cheers!

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for these great thoughts! Can tell you're really digging into the chess opening lines/chess opening variations which is aweseome. Can you let me know what you mean by the Max Lange Attack? I thought that was in the Vienna Game no? Or is there a transposition?

    • @MrSupernova111
      @MrSupernova111 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheChessGiant . Hello, the Max Lange Attack goes 3. Bc4 Bc5 d4 exd4 e5 d5. Both the black knight on f6 and the white bishop on c4 are under attack and its white's turn. Usually, white ignores his bishop and captures on f6 leading to very complex play. See Ponkratov vs Shinkevich, 2013 or Fishbein vs Zinsky, 2016 for model games. Black can go wrong very fast in this line.
      For the Sarratt variation I recommend watching "This Guy Just Demolished a Super GM with SCOTCH GAMBIT" in Jonathan Schrantz's youtube channel. Beautiful game. Awonder Liang vs Levon Aronian 2022.

      @@TheChessGiant Sorry to always be bugging you man. If you ever see this, just a quick question regarding the Scotch Gambit / Game: Lets say you intend to play it but they 1) go into the Petrov on move two 2) dont take on d4 3) play the Scandinavian on move one or 4) they play the Caro or Sicilian? Do you "just play chess" as you always say (lol) or is there preparation that I can do in order to still go with my intended Scotch Game (Gambit prolly out the window now)? Sorry for the lengthy question!

    • @jarrodthekidder1
      @jarrodthekidder1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @The Chess Giant - Hey Solomon! Do you think you can successfully play the Scotch Gambit against the Sicillain (1. e4, c5 2. Nf3, Nc6 3. d4,...) ? Do you think its viable. Its really just the c-pawn thats different than the standard variation. But that means that their e-pawn isnt in the game yet....
