It's so incredible how a 3-piece rhythm section and sax trio can hold these intricate grooves and make it look so easy -- no click track, no studio magic, no real mixing to speak of (at least by today's standards) -- and yet they hold this incredible pocket for the better part of 10 minutes (with Mr. Brown in the driver's seat, of course). This is just funk magic.

What a showman, James was absolutely awesome, saw him in 1966/67 with my older sister, and he brought down house. Besides great songs, and uniqueness of his delivery the man could flat out dance. To this day I still try to emulate his dancing style, needlessly to say I suck. I suggest anyone who like JB, they put out his 50 greatest songs and it smokes.

That band; the horns, the drummer what a show! I saw James Brown live for the first time in 1967 in South Bend Ind. I was 7 years old will never forget it. My dad dropped me off ; walked me into the Morris Civic auditorium to my sit asked the lady across the aisle who was with her children to keep an eye on me, he would be back to pick me up after the concert, and that I had money in my pocket to treat myself. If that were done today the parent would be arrested! RIP Theola Kenny ( my dad ) thanks for the memory!

I saw JB for the first time in 1966 at the Oakland Coliseum. My mom didn't want us to go. I can remember that show like it was yesterday! His band was on fire, and so so tight!
