EVs at best is a niche market without government subsidies EVs sales will drop dramatically.

For various reasons, people don’t want the damn things. One of them is anxiety over how far you can drive. Almost nonexistent infrastructure for charging these things. You can’t take them just any mechanic to work on them they have to go to a dealership. What bigger way to get screwed for repair cost than dealerships? Among other reasons, the car is essentially worthless if you ever have to replace the battery. Most of us are not fooled into thinking EVs are the future.

The whole EV fad will die for the reasons you stated, plus, unless the energy used to charge them is green energy, there is no point in adopting EV's. And NO major population is powered 100% by green energy. Advocates of EV's will say "This state, or this city ran on 100% green energy for a few days" That's a pointless argument. It has to work 24/7 365 days a year. And nowhere in the world can they do that.

The EV prices you project are deceptive. The actual production costs generally exceed the MSRPs paid by consumers. EV manufacturers are granted compliance credits and carbon credits for environmental regulatory compliance and false claims of efficiency (few get the range claimed), as well as cost sharing among traditional manufacturers. Ultimately, these deferments are passed on to non-participating taxpayers and consumers through higher product costs forced on them by the government, for the profit of EV manufacturers and cottage industries!
The first EV made its maiden move 50 years before the first gasoline car, and EVs outsold gasoline cars 'til about 1910, so the reality of mass EV adoption died in the early 20th Century, because an upstart, new technology (internal combustion engine vehicles) replaced it.
Say, here's an idea: let the virtue signaling green activists who insist on buying EVs go ahead and bear the full expense, rather than casting the costs on to folks who can't afford an EV in the first place! Yes, demand that the EV-buying public put their money where their mouths are, and show us that they aren't into forcing poor people to take up the slack for them. Fat chance on that happening, eh?
The government push for EVs is a ruse for mass transit.

Too expensive..plus, i dont like the government telling me how i should spend my money. Im already subsidizing the EVs..now they want or forcing us to buy. In CA, only EVs and maybe hybrids will be the only ones that will be sold by 2035. I hope they push that back to 20 years from now. Then they are talking about banning gas water heaters and gas stoves..who will pay the replumbing and electrical cabling for my water heater? No, i will be stuck with the bill

Lexus has an EV SUV that states a range of 278 miles. Here in the UK they tested it on the road and got 171 miles. Basically ignore claimed mileage, take off around 100 miles and you are nearer the real range.

For temporary commercial or luxury use they are okay but for them to completely replaced ICE vehicles for our everyday usage just won't work especially in this life time. Not all homes are built to have high power charger and not every location had reliable public charging station and not all charging station are reliable either as they tend to had glitches, bugs, payment, and compatibility issues. The range in mileage also tend to change and are unpredictable at times, with all these issues I doubt I would ever want an EV.

  • @MrJturner74

Part of the issue is they started by trying to electrify the SUV market instead of a super compact commuter.

I just wouldn't own a vehicle where just looking at happy fun ball would cancel the warranty. EVs are another attempt to keep people from owning and maintaining their own equipment and vehicles.
I love my current vehicles, EVs won't do what I currently get. Plus, as long as kids are mining cobalt for the world market, I don't think I want to support that.

Actually money is lost in recycling the metals as they are cheaper to produce raw. Same with plastic. It's a fact of life. Glass, paper steel and aluminum are mostly economical to recycle. Remember that the black mass will have to be shipped back to china because we aren't allowed to refine those metals in the western world.
