Should do a cost of ownership report... over a 5 year period and beyond ie... what wears out, breaks ect... of majority of brands...this would be awesome information to know!
Now that's a great suggestion. That's one thing that I use in determining a future buy. It history and common issues. Every atv I've used I compare to my Honda 4 Trax 4x4 yes it's old but bulletproof.
You just sold me on this. Been contemplating what to get for the fam and didn’t know what to think of these. Always been a Honda guy but was open to other brands. After watching this video, this is what I’ll be getting next.
Have a 23, love the i4wd goes anywhere you point it also like manual mode and paddle shifters for hills on trails it's nice being able to put it in 2nd and spin the tires.
We have a 21 Deluxe. It has 4k miles on it. One door latch broke a spring. New part cost $17. The only other maintenance item I’ve done is upgrade the door hinge bushings. Still original tires and shocks but going to upgrade next year. Very pleased with the unit.
You should do some video riding some rocky trails with the Honda. I think the convertible bed and back doors are well thought out, other than the dirt going through to the floor thing. Looks like a solid family fun/work machine.
Whenever you opened that rear door I went “whoa that’s awesome!” I was really surprised by that but it was great! I didn’t know much about the Pioneer before watching this video but the way it can be a 3 person with a full dumping bed or a 5 person sxs is really great engineering and such a cool feature. The amazing content just keeps coming from you guys!
My neighbor has a Honda pioneer. the thing has over 11,000 miles on it. He has had no issues with the motor or anything. I think he had to change one axle and something else. I’m not even that big of a Honda guy and that is impressive.
Actually the deluxe model is available in green and red as well as the blue. Base is red and green, deluxe is red, green, and light blue, forest is camo, and trail is that bronzeish you tested and a dark/navy blue. All are available in 3 and 5 seat configuration.
I am seriously looking at one of these and the paddle shifters seem like they would be great for working around our property where most of the driving is 5-10 MPH.
Question on the trail edition fox shocks. Do you know in lowest setting how these shocks compare to pioneer 1000-5 BASE Model and which would have the softer ride/feel ? Thanks
Even on the lowest setting the aluminum body Fox shocks are likely superior to a basic steel body shock. Not knocking basic shock packages completely, but performance shocks really are better because of adjustability, rebuildability and quality.
I have 3 kids so this works amazing. And the best thing is that it's a Honda. To me, 25 years of riding dirt bikes, you're on the safe side if you're riding a Honda. Well, my Yamaha is amazing too but a Honda is a different level. Well, it's just my opinion, it doesn't matter.
I thought the bench seat was awful, loved the manual trans just to be able to shift up and keep the noise down on the trail while cruising. The back seat wont fit much more than kids or small adults but it does work. Thae trans does smooth out alot after use.
hey guys, im curious on how you capture the audio for video's like these as I don't see a wireless microphone or anything. Do you use a boom mic or even a shotgun microphone?
Definitely a nice machine but put your butt in the seat of the new Ranger 1500, you won’t look back, that thing is next level, nothing even competes to it so far, can’t wait to see what canned ham bring to the table to battle with the 1500
Hmm, I own a 2021 and there is not much difference. Better suspension, tires, minor changes on the dash, but that's about it. I have the roof and front windshild. The cargo liner is great. I have many other accessories to make it mine. I really like it's versatility.
Agree with the wheel base. I went from a Pioneer to a RZR 4 seat and the Honda was much easier to navigate. If only it had the suspension travel like the RZR.
Rmax 4 is horrible when it comes to rear seating, interior design, and looks. Saw one yesterday and it was the last sxs on my to buy list. Now my last two options are the defender or pioneer. Polaris has too many defects/recalls
I actually just bought the pioneer 1000-5 and I was really surprised how sporty it is. It's no maverik but it is great for the whole family and still a good time for me. BUT the doors rattle a lot.
There is rubber bumper on the doors grab those and loosen them up by turning the counter clockwise and it will take the play and slop out of the doors and make that rattle stop
Not a lock it’s abs like a jeep jk would use. Sure it works but you can get diff lock is just have that instead plus I think the front cv shafts are different I heard so that may play into a factor of steeping up to 32’s or long travel kit etc.
Have threy solved the hot ass issues? Over long all day trips towing a tub trailer it produces heat levels close to what you find in hell!! Like , burn your arms on the seat belt mount type a hot. Its horrible. Needs air flow and proper heat shielding under the seat.
i wish Honda would stop calling i4wd an "upgrade" you lose a manual locking front diff, for a brake actuated open front diff. it functions like an abs system. in any situation, the "standard" diff will outperform it. Give me good shocks on a P1K with the locking front diff. and for that matter, put a locking front diff in the Talon. theres so many aftermarket options to "fix" i4wd because it basically functions as an open diff in traction limited situations such as mud.
Couldn’t agree more. I bought the deluxe and just sucked it up and bought shocks. Be nice if you could just choose your options. Yes the i4wd will be fine for some but it is for sure not as effective in rocks or slower speed manauerbers where you don’t want to spin the tires
Outdated sxs, time for an update on interior and instrument panel gauges, better seats, and more standard equipment, example windshield, maybe a roof. LoL 😂
Engine heat on these things is the worst! i would not want to be a rear passenger on a summer day! Even the front passenger gets toasty, once again Honda chooses to not innovate on their line up and keep pumping out the same SxS with lots of shortcomings.
What’s the point of spending all this money when they don’t even come with a roof or windshield ? I’d rather just buy used one that someone blew their money on and they ate the deprecation and installed a roof and windshield for me.
the new commander is far better in every way, and the accessories for the pioneer are almost non existant.so glad to get rid of mine.9 year old platform and they haven't changed or improved anything.

I love this idea. I feel like it's something where crowd-sourcing longevity reports is what would be most efficient.
You would see a lot of polaris, arctic cat, and cfmoto being the most common to have issues.
@@taylorcameron8943 only a proportionally large amount of cats 😂

Kawasaki would be on top. They provide a 3 year warranty standard on all side by sides except krx's

I have a 23 P1K-5 Trail and LOVE IT! For our family of 5, it works out fantastic if you're needing an all around machine like we do!

They need to put this engine in a quad!!
Agreed, and up the HP's in the pioneer
I feel like once you get 50- 100 miles or so on Honda’s DCT things start to shift smoothly.
I think a tarp would work for the back of your hauling sand, dirt, or mulch
My buddy had one very nice machine over 7k km no issues
Awesome review, guys 👍

Best sxs out there, “it’s a Honda”. My opinion
What about the tiny tires? A 1000cc side-by-side with ATV with tires?
I have 3 kids so this works amazing. And the best thing is that it's a Honda. To me, 25 years of riding dirt bikes, you're on the safe side if you're riding a Honda. Well, my Yamaha is amazing too but a Honda is a different level. Well, it's just my opinion, it doesn't matter.

love the idea the you incorporate your family and had you wife drive
Very fair review. What’s the top end?
My 2021 will do 68 but that's pushing it as hard as it will go does 60 no issue that last 8 mph is slow climbing lol
love my 22 forest no complaints
What about engine heat under the seat? They need to move it out back like can an defender or Polaris ranger
great job!
hey guys, im curious on how you capture the audio for video's like these as I don't see a wireless microphone or anything. Do you use a boom mic or even a shotgun microphone?
Wireless mic tucked into his shirt.
@@dirttraxtv ah that’s where it’s hidden! I just ordered some rode wireless ones myself, thanks for the update
Hopefully you guys get your hands on a 2024 Defender Limited. Best side by side I have purchased so far.
Definitely a nice machine but put your butt in the seat of the new Ranger 1500, you won’t look back, that thing is next level, nothing even competes to it so far, can’t wait to see what canned ham bring to the table to battle with the 1500

Need a head to head agaist the RMax 4
Yes!!

I had one and the bed rattled so bad I got rid of it. Does that one you tested rattle?
Ya, we're trying to figure out where the rattling is coming from! Is it from the rear seats? Driving my husband crazy! We just purchased a 2024 1000-5
Hello dirt tracks, could you possibly do the Polaris 1000 Touring. The only reviews i see are 8-9 years old.
We have a Sportsman 570 Touring coming up, but not a 1000.

I really wish Honda would focus on interior fit and finish
👍🏻👍🏻
The torture chamber they call rear seats was #1 reason that I went with another brand recently.
👍
Where did you get that JJ try my friend I 😂 but please try
Was that a fart right at 5:20? lol
😂
Pioneer 1005-5 is like the can am outlander videos, you only see tests on the Pioneer 1000-5 and you only see tests on the outlander if its a XMR,

@@caseyas8572 same. i love running in 4x4 open front diff. but love the confidence being able to lock it when needed.

I'm hoping this is a benefit in the winter time!
They all have power steering the 1000 anyways
if only you could get the trail without i4wd.

Everything should at least have a roof at this trim level.
30000$ Jesus H Ch/$&t! Who can afford this Sh$%/? Do they want a arm and a leg with that?
and your first born
Wow, I thought that was cheap, I don’t know how they can even make any money on them, they’re practically giving them away at that price
Horrible unrefined machine. So happy got rid of it last week. 22 pioneer 1000-5 Deluxe
My Yamaha has been great.
Outdated right from the factory.
