With the fall of sending letters by mail, we saw a rise of the costs of sending letters by mail further speeding up the process of getting rid of letters by mail. It won't be long now before more rural area's will receive mail only twice a week in order to save costs for USPS...
The envelopes with the colored border were for air mail. They had nothing to do with business designs. Up through the middle of the 19th century there were 2 classes of mail. Ground and air with air mail costing more.
Envelopes will remain for keeping other things not letters like photos, letters etc for future reference because posters no longer work and courier companies are taking over even with large baggages.
