Listen I am 100% a vintage guy but the joy o see on your face when you record this video makes me think that for you, you did the right thing. That smile is great. Keep up the positive attitude. Again I’d prefer the vintage cards but you clearly are happy to acquire such a rare beauty and that’s what matters most.

That auto isnt close to a 10 auto. Its an 8 probably. It runs off the card and touches the patch.

My brother had a 09-10 Steph Curry National Treasures /49 rookie jersey/auto, BGS 8, back before Steph started winning championships. He kept asking me if I should sell it on eBay. I kept telling him he should wait because his card would skyrocket if he won a championship, but it's a gamble if he didn't. He got greedy and we ended up asking me to sell the card over and over. We sold the card for about $350, which was a good chunk of money at the time. Now that same card is worth about $15,000.
Definitely a good video. We need more dealers that are willing to work deals like you man. Some dealers are stuck on their sticker price and won’t budge. Thanks for sharing this!

I like the Curry card. I’d rather have the best card of a player than a handful of cards that have a lot better versions of them in existence. You can likely scoop up the cards you traded down the road if you wanted to but the Curry would be hard to find again.
I am a collector and a seller but you know how you really know that you're a true collector of the sport and love it when you see all these modern cards and then they drop down to the vintage stuff and it just makes you feel totally different nothing beats the vintage stuff nothing to me it's like looking at a Mona Lisa looking at those babe Ruth cards in that 51 mantle they don't get no prettier Then the vintage stuff. I don't have a lot of money I barely scraped by but if I were to ever get lucky to come into a great deal of money I would start me a vintage collection and buy nothing but the old beautiful cards like I did years ago

Not throwing all your eggs in one basket and spreading it out with so many great cards is a huge W. The Mantle RC and Ruths are at almost no risk of dropping.

As a collector, it blows my mind people bring 100K cards to a card show. Granted, ive never been to a national show; but like my local shows, the big cards are like 500$-1000$ tops. I"m not bringing my PC High end stuff. If i did have a 100K card; I probably wouldn't even think about moving it. Even my 5-10K cards im pretty attached to, with very little i would consider in trade.

Makes me sad watching this. I lost all my autos and rookies 7 years ago in a wildfire in California. It stopped my collecting. This makes me want to start again but miss all the special cards my whole life to save and collect. My Jordan, J. Rice,J.Montana and S.Young rookies hurt the most getting them as a kid

Happy for you getting the Curry card. Personally I’m a vintage collector so would never have traded Mantle, Ruth etc. for any Curry card.

Eye appeal wise, auto grade would be low since it looks like Steph signature went off the card and onto the patch? It just doesn’t look the best and looks like he struggled a bit trying to fit his autograph onto that small spot.

Geoff, you’re getting some heat for this trade but I like it. I agree with shooting for the elite curry and releasing some lower grade items, even if they are giant names like mantle and babe. Hoping this pays off in the long game.

The posts re the signature going onto the patch...that could also increase it's value not reduce it. It's totally unique for that reason.

@@Poke_N_Fun it's a huge factor that drastically impacts the value of the card.
It seems that these investors really rely on current comps which is really worst to do IMO. Comps are worst source of getting value of a card. For me as a collector that curry card is extremely overprice at 131k, the auto does not even deserving a 10. As great as Curry is I dont think he will have the same impact at MJ, Kobe or Lebron. I rather make a $131k deal for a good MJ card rather than that Curry. I think in the long run that curry card will just be $60k.
It's like Geoff contradicts himself on a weekly basis on what he (or you) should be collecting. He clearly goes through these FOMO phases. "Vintage is a BUY".
At one point, he really wanted the Mantle (probably because it was around the SGC 10 Mantle hype), and here he is stating that there are a lot of Mantles around.
12:24 Guy got some of the best cards in history plus $30k+ for a card of a guy who is still playing, the team could be weak, the player could get injured, he could sign a bunch; it's a patch and an auto. Shaq, Iverson, Magic, Dr J, Bird, Kareem; all time greats and reasonably priced signers (though Magic and Bird are at $1k on signing the 3 key player rookie, nothing compared to $130k+ on Steph Curry's card. I'd just meet him and ask for an auto, I think Scott Smith had something where I could have gotten his auto; next time I should do it.)
Those weren't low grade, they just weren't the highest grade examples. I had a signed Pete Rose 64 Venny that I sold, two offers fell through at $3500 so I was surprised that consigned it only got $1600; it was a 3 but that's the highest grade on a signed one. Those are all great examples of the Mantle RC (a 5 is what you want, 6 is really high end) and Ruth (3 is ideal, but that's the best 2 I've seen from the front and a 3 is great.)

Stephen Curry is not a Top 10 basketball player of all time, not even close. He's the greatest shooter of all time but not player. There are around 12-15 players that he will never surpass and i'm not saying this as a knock on curry because he is an all time great but not a top 10 or even 15.

Not saying I wouldn't like that card, I just don't get the value. Obviously I get the fact it's an RPA of one of the best players ever, but it's BGS 9 on the card, the auto doesn't look great and the patch is boring and doesn't look that special. Also BGS 9 is such an ugly label. Visually, I'd want something much better if I was trading that much value away. Definitely has upside though due to scarcity and being /25
There's a reason, why a majority of high end cards are in BGS slabs. If you don't get the value on that card, you don't understand the hobby or basketball cards. ~130K value is a very good price ; which factored in the hobby decline; and the Warriors likely slumping in the future.
