For a long time I watched Matt pull 4x rigs out of the sand and could not understand how all these idiots got stuck. Then this old dirt biker went to Sand Hollow last year. Unloaded our dirt bikes in a parking lot and went through the tunnel under the highway that you see in a lot of the videos. Made it about a hundred yards beyond the tunnel. And then spent an hour just getting back to that tunnel. When the sand there is dry it’s like nothing I have seen anywhere else. It can be ridden on with speed but if you stop it is almost impossible to get going again even on level ground. Beware. If you don’t have a high flotation rig like the Banana or Morrvair you will have problems. Side X sides work also but as we have seen they can also get in trouble.
Definitely looks like an air down to 8-12psi type sand. Round wheels are just perfect for digging round holes. I was shocked when I looked on the map to see where it is. Right in town basically. I've driven by numerous times and never noticed it. To fixated looking for the Virgin Jail I guess.

Matt and his team are all very courteous and great at what they do and I can say I went out with full confidence that i would be fine cause I'm used to beach sand but as matt showed me its totally different about 1.5 inches down the sand was completely dry.

Man, when will people learn that you can't just dump gravel and make a parking surface? It has to be compacted with a roller or plate compactor to lock it together. And of course you need the right mix of gravel sizes and it has to go on to a prepared base.
Hey Matt love the channel. Why not get ED a hearing aid. He will need to go in and get his hearing tested that way they can fit him with the best hearing aid. Starkey is the best brand new digital hearing aids are like blue tooth you can connect tv and smart phones to them.
Ed doesn't know anything about smart technology, he still watches videos on VHS. If you sent him some hearing aids he would probably say thank you and then give them to someone else.

@@John-uo1qf I was given this awesome tool called the SnoBungee and it works really well you just need to have a buddy with you to either dig in and do the pull or throttle out the machine, that being said probably one of the best things ever given to me!!
It was good to see Ed and the dogs back out on recoveries. That was kind of mean of you to let the dogs play in the water but you wouldn't let Ed go swimming. Those first two had the right idea.“ we're stuck, let's go swimming, we'll get out in the morning”.
My dad admitted to giving my little poodle/schnauzer mix 20 treats per day. Now I know why she’s fat and stays at his house all day lol. (We live on the same acreage).
My ex father-in-law watched me and my ex wife’s Chihuahua when I deployed to Afghanistan and he fed her a spicy mcchicken every day, so when I got back she was kinda hefty. Somehow she wasn’t unhealthy aside from being fat (22lbs).
All these 4 wheel drives getting stuck in the sand is just insane, then you bring the Morrvair out and pull them out in 2 wheel drive, tells us all one thing.....Air Pressure. I have heard Matt touch on it a time or two, but it really is the reason for maybe 70% of the recoveries he does. I learned this early in life here in the sugar sand of Florida and every one just thought my truck was so much better than all of the other trucks out there, truth was, I was the only one airing down.
It's a simple equation of weight vs contact surface. Too narrow a contact point and it doesn't matter how much torque or power you have, it all just cuts through the ground. :) Used to have an old 96 ranger 2wd that went everywhere and further than even my mates mud bogger trucks. As you said low air and a constant speed and you'll float over most everything.

Matt, You should actually carry a couple of the screw in recovery points. They are mostly the same so instead of having to dig around hoping they still have theirs you can just grab yours.
We were in town for the Peach Days golf tournament yesterday and thought we'd drop by to see if we could get a peek of the Golden Nugget. What a treat it turned out to be! We got the full Golden Nugget/double Rokon tour from Ed, got to meet Peanut and even got a peek at the heavy wrecker. It was so fun getting to chat with Ed for a few minutes. I've been a fan of Matt's videos for a while. I've travelled a lot in the west and love the southern Utah area where they do most of their work. The one aspect I particularly like is that they take the dogs along and let them run free. I travel with my dog and love letting him cruise off leash where we can. Unfortunately, this activity is not welcome in national parks, even though the dog behaves better than most of the people we run into.
I agree Mark! Most dogs and people I have encountered have been well trained, friendly and respectful. However I have also seen the ugly side of people with thier dogs. I pulled off to the side of the trail while mountain biking so some hikers could safely pass by. They had an unleashed dog and for what ever reason he came over and bit me in the leg. The owners were pissed when I kicked thier dog to get it off of me. I would have rather kicked them for putting me and thier dog in that situation. When I was a teenager I was chase and bit in the hand by an unleashed dog while jogging through the park. A few bad owners make it bad for everybody.
Matt, I would NEVER offer you advice given your experience but, after watching this episode with my neighbor’s grandsons girlfriends next door neighbor, he asked “Why wouldn’t That Guy just go out and get a universal set of recovery hooks? I replied that you guys were always on top of everything and he paused before blurting out, those guys can’t even fix their air conditioning. So I slapped him, hard enough apparently for the police to match my handprint to his face but at least you have four more subscribers.

Dogs have been proven to carry various bacteria in their mouths that can be beneficial or non-effective to their overall health. Most of these bacteria however, are not meant to be absorbed by the human body through thin membranes such as our eyes, nose and mouth. I get that if you followed approved safety limits you wouldn't recover half of what you do, but damn yanking that Mini out by the tow eye actually made me flinch. Those things aren't recovery points, they're designed to be strong enough to let you winch the vehicle up on a flatbed. On some makes/models they even tell you that they're single-use just for that, i.e. after one easy rolling in neutral winch up the bed in a parking lot they need to be replaced. Your guardian angel must be a bit frazzled by now!
watching Matt and the crew almost feel like family .. me as an animal lover and having pets most of my life (now 70) keeping them on the thin side will add to their life span with far fewer vet visits ....

The kinetic rope does make it a lot easier getting snow machines out of deep snow. But still takes a good tug from a rope operator.

I've used one with my Tacoma to pull out an 18 wheeler stuck in a snow drift. First time I used it and it blew my mind how easy it made it.

Air pressure does have a big impact but many of those Matt pulls out if you look also only have highway type tread tires, as well
Tire pressure and wheel size, both plays big role.

Dogs have been proven to carry various bacteria in their mouths that can be beneficial or non-effective to their overall health. Most of these bacteria however, are not meant to be absorbed by the human body through thin membranes such as our eyes, nose and mouth.
The top 5 bacteria that could be transferred through the face and/or mouth:
1. Capnocytophaga Canimorsus: An organism carried in the mouths of dogs, and it causes a very bad sepsis infection.
2. Staphylococcus Aureu (Staph Infection): The majority of time your dog can safely carry this virus strain without it affecting their overall health, but when transferred to a human it can have life-threatening consequences.
3. Ringworm or Hookworm: Can cause either painful itchy infections or inflammation, or even intestinal bleeding depending on the point of entry.
4. E.Coli: A potentially fatal bacterial disease with symptoms ranging from diarrhea to nausea to intestinal bleeding.
5. Salmonella: A painful bacterial disease that can cause diarrhea, intestinal cramping, nausea and vomiting.
I get that if you followed approved safety limits you wouldn't recover half of what you do, but damn yanking that Mini out by the tow eye actually made me flinch. Those things aren't recovery points, they're designed to be strong enough to let you winch the vehicle up on a flatbed. On some makes/models they even tell you that they're single-use just for that, i.e. after one easy rolling in neutral winch up the bed in a parking lot they need to be replaced. Your guardian angel must be a bit frazzled by now!
watching Matt and the crew almost feel like family .. me as an animal lover and having pets most of my life (now 70) keeping them on the thin side will add to their life span with far fewer vet visits ....

Do you air down and up each time you get on/off the sand? Or do you just run low PSI on the road as long as you’re not driving too far (or too fast)
He is always down.
If it's far recovery they will trailer the rigs.
I believe he runs about 8 PSI on the road if just heading to sand hollow
