    I love the features and design on the motorguide unit. The electric/cable steering is such a great idea. Having a wireless or even wired unit in the back at the same time would be a cool idea for one of them to add.

      Yes I've used them on friends boats and most of them have had no issues. But I know a few people who had foot pedal issues. I personally still the Ghost had the best design .

    I think it is refreshing to see more options in the trolling motor market. Competitiveness drives innovative products to be developed, so in the long run, the consumers will benefit in terms of features and technology offered. (At a price of course) I currently own an Ultrex but waiting on the Lowrance Ghost to arrive. And once it is installed will formulate my own opinion.

    I have had many boats in the 40 years of fishing new and used. And have always had Minn Kota and Humminbird and have never repeat never had any problems. Some of the used boats come with motor guide and Lawrence but were upgraded to kotas and birds. This year new helix 9 and 7 and terrova for the old girl. Just my 2 cents

      I'm delighted with your good luck with Minn Kota, but I've had nothing but sorrow and pain dealing with Minn Kota Rip Tide that should be called Rip Off. Maybe they just sent their worst people to the assembly line for those things, but I've had two and both have been regular failures. I'm watching this video with the intent to never buy anything else from Minn Kota.

    Great comparison rundown! Based on my comparisons and some interesting things you brought up I feel the Garmin's is all around best bang for the buck. By the time you add a few bells and a whistle to the ghost you exceed the cost of the force. And bluetooth is a HUGE bonus. My new boat will have the force and may the force be with you:).

    My pick would be the Ghost. I've run the tour MotorGuide and currently run Minn Kota. If the motor guide were brushless, I might consider going back. My unites are Lawrence so it makes sense to go with the Ghost.

    • @BVDsGoneFishing
      @BVDsGoneFishing 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make sure you're ok with the level of noise underwater from the Ghost. It's the loudest one even with a brushless motor. That's the main reason I'm passing on the Ghost. For 3k I would expect it to be as quiet as any other.

    • @JustFishingTV

      @@BVDsGoneFishing not sure why I’m just seeing your response now. 😂 I agree, for 3K it better be quiet as a mouse 🐭.

    There is a video out showing how the Lowrance is very loud under water so that would take it out of the running for me. The wireless feature on the Garmin seems awesome, but if i had to pick one now it would be the motor guide. It is simple, quiet, robust and works with any electronics.

    All I know is I have ran traditional trolling motors, and I ran my buddies ultrex one day while we were out and all I can say is wow. The spot lock alone is worth three price to me. I will be buying one. Another feature I really like is the ease of steering, you barely touch the foot pedal and it responds, very quickly. I will have one before spring

    I got to see the LOWRANCE up close and personal at this year's FLW CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT in HOT SPRINGS Arkansas. Wow! Outstanding, biggest disappointing fact was the short shaft! If LOWRANCE comes up with options for a 52 & 60" shaft they definitely will have the edge IMHO

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed on the shaft, but short is the most popular for the target market on these things. Hopefully when the longer version comes out that'll open them up to the Great Lakes and Deep Vee markets

    Nice video highlighting the various features. I ordered a Ghost and I’m hoping that it’s going to be as awesome as it looks. I do wish they would show us what the optional remote looks like. They have also changed the foot pedal to now having 3 programmable buttons vs only 2, not sure I like losing the heading up feature. Hopefully, being fly by wire, the heading up button won’t be needed.

    • @InDepthSonar

    You said that the "Lowrance is the best value, if you can deal with the short shaft and no side imaging" But right in the chart that you circle it says that you can have side up front. Also Lowrance has a 3n1 nose cone that can be installed on it....
    Just an FYI.
    I'm hoping to install 2 HDS and their trolling motor by spring.
    Great job breaking these down. I'd love to see a head to head to head to head when they all are finally on the store shelves!

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes but AI 3in 1 doesn't come standard. When you have to buy the new nose cone you are at the price of the Garmin. In that case you would really have to decide which offers more.... Garmin comes with UHD and a Remote along with Gesture controls... So then I'm not sure the Ghost is the best value.

      @@InDepthSonar I fish mostly the Susquehanna river, works for my method of fishing witch usually is pull along, banks, islands, cover etc, current is always holding the boat in one direction, so when you hit the spot lock you pretty much are sitting is if you had an anchor out, but without the commotion of throwing one out, then you can turn spot lock off drift another 20/30 foot of water and spot lock again for a few minutes, allows you to cover an immense amount of water far quicker and quieter than with an anchor and you don't have to do anything, formerly I didn't use my trolling motor much for anything other than positioning the boat in a drift or to get into a spot to drop anchor.

    1st generation products are a hit or miss. Stick with a mature and reliable product IMO. I'm intrigued with the Garmin product, wireless and brushless, but for now I will stick with a company that has been making trolling motors since Ive known fishing. Ultrex has been in good service for 2 seasons going to a 3rd.

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Minn Kota is proven. Garmin is a solid company so I trust them. MotorGuide is owned by Mercury....makes me think. Lowrance lists "reliable" as their number 1 selling feature of this motor. Who does that on an unproven product? Especially a company with their track record of "reliable" products. I like the Lowrance best on paper, but how will they hold up?

  • @FratBoyFishing

    This is a great video. Have you done any kind of update in the last couple of years? Has there been a trend in which one of these options have done well? I've only used/seen the Minn Kota and Lowrance setups, but it seems like the Garmin is/was the most technologically advanced. Are there any issues with the throughput of the wireless system Garmin is using?

      Seems like there have been a few hiccups with the Garmin and Lowrance along the way, but overall they are still the best two out there today. MotorGuide Tour Pro finally came out just this year and haven't used that one or had feedback. If its a budget motor you're looking for then the Ultrex is a great choice

This package include the Motorguide Xi5 with the Lowrance Elite 9 fish finder. I'll be looking for brush piles and trolling along the banks. With your experience will this be a good fishing package or should I go with something else?

I am looking at 120Lbs of trust and 84" length, boat weights easily 5500 wet, I don't need more transducers than I already have, I think the remote control seems a good control option. what's your take on it?

    • @InDepthSonar

      IF you see the other comments on why I don't compare Rhodan you'll understand. They don't make a trolling motor that is in the same class as these ones. Great review, which of these Trolling Motors are saltwater compatible. I'm really taken by the Garmin unit especially but I've seen on Garmin's site, I believe that it is a freshwater version and I also believe this to be true because all previous Electric Trolling Motors have been colour coded, Black motors for freshwater whereas the White is for saltwater use. If this is true, do you know if Garmin plans on releasing a saltwater version in the future?

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't heard of any plans for any of the brands to release a saltwater version of these motors. However, both Lowrance and Garmin have said if things go well with them, then we can expect an expanded line. That may include a SW model, but who knows at this point.
      Yes, you are correct in White being SW and Black being FW for Minn Kota and MotorGuide

    • @InDepthSonar

      The Ulterra isn't in the same class as these motors. Ulterra is electric steer, where these are going after the cable steer (bass) market and adding the GPS features of the electric steer motors.
