- ** UPDATE 17 Feb 2017 **
Please don't ask me how to solve this problem :) Join the TH-D74 Yahoo group and ask there, or contact Kenwood support directly.
** UPDATE 31 Oct 2016 **
This has been fixed (for me) in the 1.04 firmware update.
** UPDATE **
After doing some research, this appears to be expected behavior.
** Original description below **
This happens every time I unkey PTT. I seem to be getting through, though.
Radio firmware 1.03
Transmit settings:
UR: CQCQCQ
R2: KD0JOU G
R1: KD0JOU C
MY: N0RUA
I've had this same issue, no idea how to eliminate it. Also, have you been able to get GPS data to pass through DSTAR?
I just received my D74A and I'm getting the ERROR after i transmit. and I'm running the latest version - N5XET
I have a new D74, I am able to go to FM and DV, but NO DR mode. The tech guy at Kenwood is not able to tell me how, I also watched all of Don Arnold's videos, and he does not have a video telling how to switch to DR more. Basically I cannot go digital at all. UPDATE: I found this on the papa forum, but no volume in DR mode.
“RESOLVED: The procedure shown on page 28 of the Hamvention Tips manual,
AND on page 16-2 of the Kenwood larger new "Blue" user manual,
fails to mention one CRITICAL fact;
You *MUST* be in VFO mode, NOT memory mode with a selected memory
channel, IN ORDER TO TOGGLE BETWEEN DV and DR MODES.
YOU CAN NOT SELECT DR MODE if you had previously selected
a memory channel. You MUST first hit the VFO key, before trying
either of the procedures above shown on page 28 of the Hamvention Tips
manual, and/or on page 16-2 of the Kenwood larger new "Blue" user manual.
It fascinates me just how much basic usage information is missing from the
Kenwood manuals, and from all the 3rd party blogs, articles, and presentations
on this great but complicated radio. Much of the info is like a reference manual,
but without the "Quick Start "cookbook" flowchart of what to do in each step.
It could be SO MUCH easier if engineers knew how to communicate in
writing (I am one, so I can say that :-) ).
Cheers, Neal N6YFM”
However once I went into DR mode, I have no volume on any repeaters, it 'appears' that they reveal my TX, and it appears (via the scale) that someone ‘may’ be responding, but no volume. I hit the PF1 button, and I have “100% volume for both bands A & B.
Sounds like the repeater is replying with RPT?, and your radio is letting you know that. It's a repeater issue that's quite common. Can you shut off the voice on your ht?

Interesting it bombs out with the UR: N0RUA at :38 instead of CQCQCQ. I don't have mine yet so no clue if that's the way it should be. Supposedly there is another firmware update coming "soon." 1.03 is already out.
Yep, I was running the new 1.03 which is out. Hopefully 1.04 is around the corner?
According to a post in Kenwood D-STAR facebook group Kenwood Support said there was another update being prepped and will be released soon. Not sure what "soon" means though.
Great, thanks for the info! I'll have to poke my head into the group, if I can do it without a FB account :)
I just received my D74A with ver 1.05 and I have this problem when I transmit to any repeater, I don't think it has been fixed.
Fran, I recommend joining the TH-D74 Yahoo Group and asking there. It can often be up to the specific repeater/gateway software, but I would also not discount the radio still having some firmware bugs :) I've reported several to Kenwood since 1.05 was released.
This is NOT true. I've upgraded to 1.04 but still have this ERROR msg.

Hi Marco,
My understanding is they fixed this error in a few cases (at least what was causing me to have the problem) -- and they are working on more DStar fixes for v1.05.
I would recommend joining the TH-D74 Yahoo group to stay abreast of the current situation.
this is normal there was a response on the D74 Fourm you have to use USE REFLECTOR
What forum has this information? Also, where is he to set the "use reflector" option? My radio shows this error as well, even though communication is working, and I am getting to the reflectors.
