CUTTING THROUGH THE NOISE: Why the Fujifilm X100VI is Overhyped

- Don't get me wrong. The Fujifilm X100 will forever be one of my favorite cameras. I truly love it, but i think the hype has out performed the 100VI in itself. Personally, I'd be happy with the X100V.. yet either or cant be found in stock. So instead of waiting around for it, maybe some of these other cameras will wet your appetite.

Recently switched from the Fujifilm x-t5 to the Nikon ZF, and I fully agree with your thoughts! I loved the xf35 f/1.4 for the Fujifilm, but I couldn't justify keeping the camera especially because of the bad autofocus and the crop sensor. Also, the Nikon ZF feels like a camera that you can keep for years and years to come due to the build quality! Going to buy the voigtlander 40mm f/1.2 for the Nikon, looking forward to it! Keep up the great work🙌
The Voigtländer 40mm 1.2 is SOOO GOOD. I recently bought it and it’s basically glued to my ZF.
Do you feel like the Xt5 for low light photos was horrible it not too bad? Been looking to getting it over any full frame because I prefer the smaller form factor. Full frame lenses are too large for my taste to use around the city.
@@WidePhotographs the pictures in low light are more than good enough! The ibis is really good on the x-t5 so that helps, however the best lenses for low light are somewhat bigger as well
You gotta make some shirts with yada yada yada
Comparing a 11,000 dollar camera with interchangeable lenses to a 1600 dollar fixed lens sure is something. This Ferrari is far superior to this Toyota Carrolla, weird.
To be fair it's impossible to get a x100vi for less than $2500 now
@@westernpigeon it's not a matter of patience. In the u.s it's literally impossible to get the 100vi because of scalpers. I had it pre ordered on day 1 and my order was cancelled by best buy because they ran out of stock.
You’re literally the people he talked about in the first 30 seconds lol.
It’s a ridiculous comparison. Literally the only thing they have in common is they both take pictures😂

Absolutely one of the best TH-cam photography channels. You have the best arsenal of cameras, and I think you just “get it”.
Hey man,
I saw many reviews about the Zf, and the 40mm f2 too, and you are just the guy who takes photos with it instead of brick walls and b-rolls zoomed on the product ahah
You just make me want to get this Nikon !!
Great job by the way, this vid shows well the different rendering and feelings.
Never trust a person who has horrendoys PP colours and shoots 4/3 to get a medium format feel.
You nailed it! Totally agree! Had been a long term Fuji user since XE1. I switched to Leica M system and recently added Zf with voigtlander 40/1.2 z mount and thypoch 28/1.4 M adapted. Can’t be happier! Absolutely the right move for me.
I think the busy bokeh you're seeing on the x100VI could be the leaf shutter issue where it's not fast enough at shutter speeds over 1/1000 - you can see it when you compare with the same shot at lower shutter speeds/with the electronic shutter. It sucks because it means you always have to watch out for it and use the ND filter or otherwise stick to the electronic shutter.
Yeah I should have mentioned that, found out from my first video. But still the point stands, that’s annoying to deal with haha
10:09
Yeah, I design my own sims in Fujis and use the fuji x raw to create faithful jpgs or tiffs. Then I use LR to add vignettes or grads.
For everyone asking what the camera setup was for this video, I was using my Frankenstein lens! th-cam.com/video/C1ccUAmpWyw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=8Q-H7Ff-5rfwcvKM
Which explains the bad autofocus. Apologies haha. I like to try things. Camera was the Sony FX3!
I've been in the same situation.
I remember watching your x100v videos back in the day and I grabbed one for the look and feel of getting the in the moment shots for holidays (views and friends). The onboard flash and film simulations were a charm. Then overtime I realised that my main a7 iv camera just hit better. So I sold the x100v and swapped the a7 iv for the a7c ii & the small 40mm 2.5. And now I'm so content. I keep the portability, I prefer editing Sony RAWs quickly on lightroom mobile than just the film simulations. The x100v hype just left me. So I can see that happening with the x100vi too.
I went from a Nikon D700 to a Fujifilm x100VI. My goal with the camera is to get my love for photography back. I've been debating on getting a Nikon D850 or a "Z" model but I just knew that the struggle with lenses and carrying around a heavy back pack would still be a pain in the ass. The D700 might be old but its still superior in many ways (in the daylight ;)) so I don't think the actual camera is the problem, it's just the struggle with all the big ass heavy artillery that i have to take along with me. The x100vi is now the only thing i have and I have to work with that. It honestly feels like a toy and like its going to break by only touching it haha. I miss the fullframe though but I might adjust to it!
Used a D750 for years, the files would regularly blow the A7iii out of the water. Going to be adding the ZF in the near future for sure.
Bro you are slowly becoming my favorite TH-camr!
🥲🥲🥲🥲
This is class! Seeing the shots taken with that Thypoch lens and compared to the Fuji, just, wow. Great job mate.
A month before the release of the X100VI, I was on the local store's list to get one and then I decided to switch the order to the Zf with the 40. Looks like it was a good choice for me. For compact carry, I have the Panasonic GX9 with the lovely assortment of pancake lenses. I am surprised by the images I get out of that GX9 and that is compared the Z8. Makes me wish that Panasonic would release a new model of this discontinued camera. Where the Zf shines for me is the usage of old lenses attached to the TechArt AF adapter.
This cinematic western look always slaps on your videos, Love it.
I bought the OG X100V shortly after it was released and it was my everyday companion for two years
The autofocus was pretty lacklustre and low light capability was whack but it had a charm that you couldn't deny
Sold it at the height of the hype and got twice what I originally paid for it
I've been shooting with a Plaubel Makina 67 since but I have to admit, the Nikon ZF is tempting me back to digital
If they made an SP inspired rangefinder design I would buy that in heartbeat
Love the anamorphic vlogs btw! 🤙🏽
"It's film, takes a moment." Fires off three shots without advancing 😂 All jokes aside, love the energy of this video and always happy to see someone prove over and over again that they're truly brand agnostic.
Would've loved to see the A7Cii and A7CR added to the mix hehe. Great video Cal!
He did own an a7cii in the past. Wondering if he sold it. Might have been a7c.
S9 would have been much much better if it followed lumix's own GX9 design which had a built in pop up flash, better control dial arrangement, grip etc. Lumix missed the opportunity to make a perfect camera with skipping that viewfinder and mech. shutter
Wasted opportunity
Cameras with no viewfinder make me feel like I'm shooting pictures on my smartphone. No viewfinder is a deal breaker for me.
I just hope the S9 has EVF. pity
your hair is foofy
9:15 this articulates perfectly why I’m not sold on an x100vi-the bokeh is so digital and busy to me
You mentioned some raw comparisons. I would love love love to see that ❤❤❤
Great video btw!! And loved the Area 51 also!!!!!!!❤❤❤
Dude - you had me hangin. I thought you were never going to get around to saying that Fuji is very disappointing (putting it kindly). I hung in with Fuji for over a decade, waiting for each iteration to get better. It held my business back and years of frustration. Best thing I ever did was to swap over to Nikon Z system. My customers immediately noticed the difference and commented on my images. Try to shoot anything on a Fuji X, in low light or over ISO 1,600, and if you don't nail the exposure, when you try to pull the shadows up the image turns to custard. I'm glad you finally got there and announced that you are selling that paper weight. Well done man! Only thing is I'm filthy at myself for bumming it with Fuji for so long.
Great comparison of those cameras. For me Nikon Zf is really tempting but I can't stand the size for travel with my kids. M11 too expensive so I want to add S9. It will pair nicely with my Fuji X-E4 which is really fun camera but I miss FF goodness especially with vintage glass. I have one question about S9 and I can't find the answer anywhere so maybe you can help. Lumix Lab app is downsampling every photo to 11mpix. Does S9 do the same when you apply LUT in camera to your image or is it giving full 24mpix jpgs ?
I'm only 20 seconds in and I feel like I'm watching a movie. Freaking amazing.
FYI, I also hate the Fuji X100VI bokeh, but it is only busy when the shutter speed is over 1/1000. this is easy to prove. simply take a bunch of similar photos with a close subject and distant background and make sure the shutter speed is below 1/1000. anything 1/500 and faster will have perfectly smooth bokeh. It's annoying as hell, and I hate that I have to deal with it, however if you enable the ND filter anytime you would be over 1/500 so that you can keep the shutter speed lower, the background blur will be buttery smooth.
Yeah I forgot to mention that, figured that out in my other video thanks to the comments. Super annoying issue haha
@@cammackey yeah. it sometimes makes me want to sell mine. ha. it isn't just doing portraits. any time anything is out of focus in the background at all above 1/1000 it is obvious to me. my xt30 doesn't have that issue with the non leaf shutter. i am mostly a fan for it's size and overall lens. but honestly, with a hood on (which isn't quickly removable) it isn't much smaller than the xt30 which has quick remove hoods on the lenses that simply store on the lens backwards...
Hey Cam, do you have any videos on the Fuji XT-50? Would be interested in hearing your thoughts compared to the VI & the Nikon ZF.
I think it’s almost 1:1, but with interchangeable lenses. It’s a baby XT5. I bought it for an upcoming trip to NYC. Small / compact and packs a punch. Pairing it with my M10R. Sketchy locations get the Fuji.
This was an honest and awesome overview Cam. However, I have to agree FF is really the only interest i have. I did all the apsc, but see ff as the upgrade to my pro work and have added the zf to accompany my sony A7RV. Another reality is that I love to edit my photos and would not use those film sims much. I think it is a gimmick.
Just found your channel and I’m loving these videos. Great work man. Thanks for sharing!
Amazing!! How’d you find it?!
@ I’m thinking about picking up a Nikon Zf, and searching that brought me to your channel. Glad it did! All your stuff on here is great. Take care!
I’m Lovin my GFX 50R, it feels like a big compact with the GF50 on it, but, I’ve been adapting a P67 105/2.4 to it with the Kipon Baveyes x0.7 adapter, more for landscape use when Im on a tripod, and this combo has given me some of my favourite images. Don’t know what it is about the 50r, but it’s just such a lovely fun camera to shoot with.
I have an M10-D too, but the 50r has been getting more love for sure. I am not a fan of the 3 red exposure LED’s in the M10-D. I’ve shot manual film cameras before like the Olympus OM2 which have pretty basic exposure info, but present it in away that I immediately know how far off with the exposure I am. With Leica’s 3 red LED’s, I don’t immediately know how far away from correct exposure I am, I have to adjust settings to get the central ‘correct’ exposure first, then deviate away from that depending upon if I think the lighting is fooling the meter &/or to intentionally under expose a little to prevent clipped highlights. Oh, and while I might be able to dial in a bit of exp comp to always under expose a little, if I do this the area where the red LED’s are is then shared with a +/- EV warning which alternates with the metered exposure info….I don’t want to be reminded that I’ve deliberately dialled in exp comp, I know I have, it’s a big dial on the back of the M10-D!! So, I just don’t feel that Ai gel with the way Leica presents its metering info, and that really impacts how I feel about using the camera.
At the end Cam, you ask Fujifilm to give you a MF version of the x100….I feel that the 50R is that, but, rumours have just surfaced of a GFX 100RF, which might be even closer to what you have asked for.
No, used 50R’s can be picked up for just a little more than the x100vi is new…..just sayin….and, you can adapt FF & MF lenses to it. I have a ton of adapters & ‘interesting’ old lenses.
What’s crazy is we live in a time where u can actually compare $2k cameras to $8k cameras . It’s crazy what all these cams do. I personally have the a7cii for photos . Its compact image is great 33mp is plenty for pretty much whatever I’m doing .
Yeah that A7C line is amazing!!! It’s a great do it all series.
I’ve shot the X100F, V and VI but I’m quite happy with the S9.
That 35mm f1.4 nikon just put out looks kinda interesting too... Great vid. I haven't dab into the Leica universe yet but it's tempting
I'm keeping my X100F and X100v. But your analysis is spot on. For serious work you need the extra latitude that a good full frame sensor (with the right lens) gives you. Looking at the Zf but man that flipout screen is a bummer!
Nice vid.
If you want come closer to the „full frame“ look of zf with a fuji body the currently best option is probably any fuji body combined with a viltrox 27 f1.2 which is more less equivalent to FF 40mm f1.8~2.0 so the depth of field might be even a bit shallower than with nikom 40 f2. And that lens is crazy sharp.
The only downside is, its really heavy..
Dang that lens sounds sick!!! Idk if it’s just in my head or facts.. but even when matching up the math, I still feel like APSC feels.. smaller? Like the frames feel tighter. VS even medium format; matching the math.. feels like there’s more depth. Between separation, color fidelity, all of it
@ hahah yeah i feel sometines somehow same, eventhought math says something else. I really think you would have a hard time telling which photo is shot with ZF and 40mm f2 @f2 and which one is shot with fuji and that viltrox lens @f1.2 having them side by side. Of course when shot raw.
But since you have your M11 and ZF already (and sold the xt5) there are very few reasons for you to buy this lens. But maybe for other users with (senzor) size-envy this is really currently one of the best options for fuji shooters.
I use this lens with my x-pro2, that camera is just beautiful and now when shot @f1.2 the mythical „FF 3D pop“ is there.
FF would still probably have small advantage at dynamic range and lifting shadows in post, especially when shot at higher ISO values. But the AI denoising algorithms in lightroom or c1 are so powerfull that even this is not such a problem as it once was.
Fuji’s bring a great user experience but when it comes to the files, it can’t begin to keep up with full frame. I love the feel of my x-e4 but the files just don’t have the flexibility or depth of my Sony files. Everything feels crunch down.
15:40 when I shoot Zf side by side with X100V and A7Cii .. all on same settings and same meeting.. the Zf is better at letting shadows be shadows .. I don’t know how to explain it. Others want to light up a dynamic scene while the Zf takes the .. yo let’s chill with the light approach.
True. Choose a lens and attach a body to it. I currently love the voitlander 40 1.2 however I use an x-s20.
Finally a Leica photography TH-camr who can actually take good photos
After selling my X100VI … still wanted my Fuji fix so slapped a 27 F2 Voigt Ultron onto my Xpro2.
For me this has most of what I love about the X100 series (compact, great design, sims, OVF/EVF) but without the things I really missed (a proper shutter clunk, legit manual focusing, other lens options).
Leica isn't the only one doing it. The French camera company Pixii makes a pretty good digital rangefinder, sensor makes awesome colors. You should test it! I agree with the full frame argument. Also M11 files are awesome, and its nice to be able to crop and retain details.
I’m interested in checking that out! It looks more modern for sure, but curious how it feels in hand
I've always liked Nikon. Shot with them before switching to Fuji. Still using an XT3, does everything I need. Used to have an X100T, loved it but X100 cameras are too expensive and hyped now for what they are. Would love to get an ZF but there are no small lenses with aperture rings and high build quality so cannot justify it for a two plastic lens combo. I know there are Voigtlander's but still.
Great video. The only problem is that the Lumix has stupidly heavy lenses at the moment (and 26mm f8 lens is a joke), just like the Nikon Zf body is unnecessarily heavy. So the only reasonable choice for me is between Leica or Fuji in terms of travel/everyday camera.
Eh weights not an issue for me personally (🎶🎤 I workout). Also, that 26mm is fun af. I agree, I was like wtf is this.. I’m never using this. And then I tried it.. was hooked.
I was gonna say nobody talks about the potential of Z mount but you mentioned it at the end while i was typing:) currently in love with zf i sold the 40 and got a 50 1.8 but you make me want to buy it back :)
How is the S9's LCD compared to the A7C II? Is it easy to see in bright sunlight? I've found the A7C II isn't really cutting it, even with "Sunny Weather" turned on for its brightness
From your experience, for street photography and maybe attend random events to take photos, would you prefer the Nikon ZF or Sony A7Cii?
Однозначно sony a7c2. И думать не нужно!
Great analysis. BTW you two work well together in your videos. Keep it up! Peace
Jericho hates me
I use only Fujifilm gear, X and GFX, but I have considered switching to Nikon. The big limitation for me is the lack of marked aperture dials and lack of weather resistance in the small Nikon primes. For now, I will probably stay with the X-T series for street photography, X-H2 series for hybrid, and GFX for landscapes, cityscapes, and portraits. I have been successful using a GFX 50S II for street photography, but it's hard to be discrete with that body because of the size and noisy shutter. I'm very interested in what the upcoming (probably 2025) fixed lens GFX camera will be like.
Funny I’ve had a X100F and just bought the X100VI but my favourite look comes out of my old Canon 5D Mkiii with 50mm f1.2L.
Out of curiosity, is there any other point and shoot cameras you can compare to, with these full frame bodies with a plethora of lenses that you think comes close? Can’t find the reasoning for the comparison video besides “what’s better than the camera I use to like”
65x24 in the X-T5? Is there an update that I’m not seeing on the app?
Still rocking my Fuji XT3 that I bought 5-6 years ago heavily influenced by your videos! I still don't think Fuji has enough to tempt me to upgrade with any of their cameras.
Cam, I suspect Fuji designed the VI to a price point, so as to be a winner in the mass market, not for professional photographers such as your good self. Judging from the popularity of its predecessor and the long waiting list of the VI, I think we can conclude they have struck gold for a successful revenue stream. I’m impressed that the X-100VI even made it to your shortlist 😊. I’m a photo enthusiast and I have more fun shooting with the VI than I do with my Z7 (45 mpx full frame). I take the VI everywhere, even to the dentist, in case I spot a subject on the way there!😊. I enjoy having fun taking photos more than getting a keeper. Thanks for a lovely thought provoking video.
Your Gear, Your choose. Use the best tool for the Job. IF you have overlap, simplify your choices and reduce the overlap. Your reasoning applies to more than just cameras, but lenses, and everything else we use to create with. I will be doing this with my gear when I purchase the fix lens GFX 100r coming out in 2025 😂.
Yup yup!!
Well said... The key is always knowing what the tools in your tool box are capable of, and what their strengths and weakness's are. Combine that with tremendous experience, and yeah.... Whatever the assignment no need to be scared LOL We all simply tell stories with imagery. People always like to scream bokeh bokeh bokeh.. and Im like "duh" todays crazy number of sensors/system and lens combo's can cultivate endless vareity in results. One thing no one seems to talk about to much is a huge "strength" of apsc is indeed DOF if you want "more in focus".. x100 for wedding reception candids is awesome for that... Heck think about steven spielburg and watch his films... If i had to guess the dude has NEVER shot wide open ever, because the way he tells storys is he "wants" all the detail in the background ! With apsc in most cases and with the x100 especially... its tiny, descrete.. and really a heck of a story telling tool to exploit those insane strengths of a smaller sensor :) Love the Xpro line simply because adapting a huge collection of vintage glass to it is an absolute blast, same with the gfx50r. Cracks me up when people complain about the GFX being slow ? These folks never shot weddings with 2 mamiya 645s, 10 shots per roll, Q flash's for recpetions (often on a cord or at best line of sight triggers when guests were using disposible flash cameras as well)... and every time you pushed the button it was 3 bucks LOLOL They have zero idea what slow is ? Or go out and shoot a Rollei TLR for an afternoon ? After 30 years of using 4 diff major player systems... again... specially the modern gear... Dang... we all have some awesome tools to pick from depending on your vision, at any given time :) Great post... and yeah LOL we all feel the pain of choices and dang are we lucky to indeed have the choices we do these days... Like paint brush's in a bucket... just gotta decide what, and how we are going to paint today Cheerz... :P
@@CKreationz Well illustrated Sir!! Cheers!!
What’s the thumb support you’re using on the M11? IDS? Do you like it?
Yup!!!! The craftsmanship is beautiful. Fit perfectly look and quality wise. And super freakin comfortable
@@cammackey nice!
Nikon ZF or Nikon Z8 is next for me I’m still debating which to get for different reasons.
I also prefer my M10 with 28 m cron to X 100 V - little details make the big difference
I’ve absolutely loved all my x100 cameras. But the past two have been a bit meh. I’m really loving my a7c, attaching a modded Helios, silly filters and having fun again. I’ll sell my x100 and look at that s9. I think I miss the feeling of my x pro 1 but full frame gives me so many more tools. Lovely stuff as always and it’s great advice as I try to get all your tips into my work. D
The only feature that’s keeping me from selling my x100 is the built in flash
Ugh I wish the S9 had one
@@cammackeyerm they can’t right? There’s no mechanical shutter, it won’t sync
So you're saying I should buy the ZF and wait for the X100VII aka X100V mark III
Good job... $11k Leica compared to small cheap camera. Good job.
I don't think I caught it, but have you tried the TTArtisan 6-Bit adapter for the ZF? it allows for the green focus confirmation to work with M mount stuff on the Nikon as well.
I have the Megadap version! Works with all my Sony lenses. The other one I got was very buggy
The 6bit adapter for M lenses works okay, but they miscalculated the flange distance so you can’t zone focus with it on the Zf.
If you’re gonna rock an every day carry APSC, the Ricoh GR iii or iiix beats up the Fuji. Feels more in line than comparing the x100 series to full frame holy grail setups.
It’s the focal length of the X100VI that I don’t like and accounts for some of that missing feeling I get from the others. I like something a little tighter like the 40mm on the ZF.
Same. I think it comes does the sensor crop, feels more tight
Sold my X100vi after two months. Same thing happened to me. I now have the M11 and Zf.
P.S - What setup of the video here, if I may ask? Sony FX3 or so...?
FX3! But I was using my Frankenstein lens.. hence the horrible AF haha
th-cam.com/video/C1ccUAmpWyw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=8Q-H7Ff-5rfwcvKM
@@cammackey Lovely stuff, man. And thanks for referring to your video. So, this astigmatism could be achieved with this adapter on many other EF lenses, and would you say the anamorphic sticker is a must to complete that look?
P.S- I was shooting a GH2 back in the day with a CCTV toy lens on it that had quite a similar effect. It's very unique. Wonder if it's too much sometimes. I dig it anyway...
Cropped sensor vs FF vs Medium frame. If you don't see the difference, then perhaps, your phone is the best camera for you.
An older 2nd hand X-Pro series might be more versatile as its lens is interchangeable.
Not full frame tho.
Fuji x100 series built in nd's (everyone everywhere calls it always "game changer")...but honest gain is here "ls"- leaf shutter and its capacity to sync with flash so fast as You wish.
5:20 Yhr Leica is JAZZY on that shot. Dang!
Love your point about the crop to ff to mf. I often thought the same thing when someone would rave about their medium format camera quality and then dismiss ff over apsc.
I think it's sad that the poor Sony RX1RII gets left out of almost all of these discussions. Yes, it's a camera from 2016. Yes, it's a Sony. But many forget that Sony used to be SUPER experimental and cool when it came to cameras (look up the Sony R1) and the RX1RII is a very experimental, cool camera. The RX1RII is still (even in 2024) the perfect "in between" that mixes most of the things you love about all these cameras together. Super small, full frame, 42 MP sensor, 35mm Zeiss lens, great image quality, view finder (that can retract if you don't want it), "film like" shooting experience (aperture can only be changed manually, you can put a soft shutter release button on the camera, focus dial is manual and on the front of the camera), built in macro lens, cost is WAY cheaper than the Leica ($1500+ used). The RX1RII is definitely a well kept secret in edc photography.
Fully agree about the X1 100vi. I returned mine because it just wasn’t worth the amount that I paid. I liked it, but it’s more like an $800 camera and not a $1600 one. Way over-hyped.
Would love to see you with a rx1 here. Get your thoughts on the zeiss lens attached. I just got a cheap ised one and it sure is able to produce some really nice images.
I agree… I love Fuji but they really need to think about offering a FF sensor and adding more customization ability to their jpegs
Before Fujifilm even consider FF they need to fix the terrible autofocus on their APSC cameras!
Great comparisons! I feel like since it has decent photo/video and is small it would be good for travelling/vacations compared to the nikon zf, what do you usually bring for something small on vacations? Other than the expensive m11 Wouldn't want to bring a bunch of lenses, nd filters etc
Well I would never shoot video on it. I like max control for my video stuff, like the iPhone with the BM app is more powerful of a video camera. Not even lying. For a vacation… Leica M11 with a 35mm. Or possibly jsut film. But I honestly have never been on a vacation and I’m 34 years old 😂
Nikon files are soooo good. I think the key to it is they have good color separation like GFX files which you kind of touched on but I think that's why they seem special. The ZF files specifically are a little bit better because it has a little more dynamic range than the Z8 which I also own. The other Z cameras are similar to the ZF files like the z6 and z6ii and even the z5 but they obviously don't have the autofocus chops like the ZF does.
What are your thoughts on XT5 where you would have more lens options that fit the esthetic of the camera and can give better results for portrait vs the Nikon Zf? I am asking because I own the XT5 and was thinking of switching to Zf but I wish they had more small AF lens options.
I stated a little bit in the video. The XT5 is great, I loved it. But once again, it’s the same sensor and the ZF sensor will give you more punch for your buck.
@@cammackey Thanks for your reply. I think I'm going to try and get my hands on the Zf so I can try it out.
I am looking into buying the Xt5 soon because of the smaller form factor over full frame cameras. Example, I wouldn’t want to walk around with the 28-75mm z lens since that lens is so huge it screams “photographer!!”. Whereas with an Xt5 or any other APSC camera, you can go with the sigma 18-50 f/2.8 lens and it is small compact form will make you less noticeable compared to walking around with a full frame 28-75mm f/2.8 lens.
I just gotta find out if the A6700 performs better than a XT5 in low light photos.
@@WidePhotographs This is true , and its why I have been in the Fuji system for years, especially for street and travel photography I love it. However, it depends on use case , I have been doing more portraits lately and I do think for that situation I would rather have full frame with better auto focus. When I am going out for a dedicated shoot/ portrait shoot then the quality outweighs the size convenience. I guess the best solution is to have both haha 😆. It is also the reason I was interested in the ZF . The 40mm f2 seems small enough to carry for street while also giving the option of using other z lenses for portraits. It could possibly be a replacement for both situations. I just wish they made more small lens options.
@@Aeonikst8 after days of researching, I think I may settle for the A7cii. Yes the Zf is cheaper than the A7cii but the Sony has smaller lenses compared to Nikon. But Zf has dual cards for peace of mind for back ups. lol I hate this 😄
If you want a full frame with viewfinder, 42 mp and one of the best lenses ever created, get a Sony Rx1r II - 10 years later still one of the best camera I've ever used
I’ve been wanting to try one of those! Just wish Sony would stop making the best and most perfect lenses and give us some character lol
@@cammackey You should, the 35 f2 lens on this is aboslutely amazing. I've bought this camera 3 times and sold it twice....because I'm stupid and it's that good
I wish y'all would get the XT-50 in on these conversations more often because it seems the main hit the X100VI keeps taking is "it isn't versatile enough" due to the built-in lens. The XT-50 is much more versatile than the VI and I would've been more curious of how a comparison between the XT-50, ZF & M11 panned out! The XT-50 is a X100VI killer!
Well it’s still crop sensor. Thats kinda the biggest thing at this point.
Which one do you like its character most between the summicron king of bokeh or the Thypoch ?
At the Moment i just hope Lightroom will finally include digital mist filter fx, haze, chromatic abberation, halation, realsitic softness etc. basically everything dehacer, alien skin exposure and red giant looks and other plugins have. I love the internal film settings of the Fuji but i kind of can not let go of shooting raw and having the whole thing in post. I mean i can use other editors but if it is not all in one editor it takes forever. Only using Luminar or Alien skin exposure is sadly missing tools and is not as fast as lightroom... :/ I absolutely 100% think the film look is totally doable in post in digital and people love it, but camera manufacturers, adn adobe are kind of neglecting that, even fuji is missing some things i would like to have
You don't just have to rely on Fuji's film simulations, that's why people love making their own recipes @3:39
You mean changing your WB and tint? Sure
@@cammackey Sure... and combining it with the other variables. But if you want to distill it down to being stuck, that's cool, you're selling it. Keep the great videos coming.
⚾🥎 Takes some balls to go against the grain! Thanks for the candid point
so I finally got me an xt-5 with the kit lens, I was all excited and all but it was short lived. I didnt get the kid of image I was thinking so I thought it must be the film sim, in the end I got this really cheep TTartisan 23mm f1.4 and finally kinda gave me the look I wanted. Im 50-50 on this cameras, i am enjoying it but might sell it and get a sony fullframe instead. crop sensor is a crop sensor, you need like really fast glass compared to fulframe where an f2.8 would do just fine. and I dont think its just the speed either. also like I told previously, I might get me a speed booster before I sell it to get the fullframe feel
What best is that?
You mean vest? I thrifted it in Austin TX!
Cam, you explained the KOB bokeh in the best possible way, I had the same feeling towards that lens, the bokeh is somewhat like an oil painting texture, it is busy, but in a poetic way and very pleasing to look at. Well done Cam, great video.
And I can't agree with you more, the X100V and VI are very overhyped, they are good daily drivers, but not at the right position as they should've been.
Dude exactly. I get a lot of gripe for loving lens character from the lens snobs. But there’s 100% a difference from tasteful and distracting “defects”. The KOB makes my brain swoon haha. And agreed, X100VI is a great camera.. but it really is over hyped
@@cammackey like those paint brushes, there are fine stokes there are rough strokes there are some in between, different types of brushes hit different painters’s tastes, if may I say, the KOB is a very uniquely made lens, you see it you see it, it is not for everyone for sure.
I’d love to see a future video from you talking about different cinestill stocks. A lot of people trash those film stocks, I guess it is the same thing that they can’t ride with the characters that cinestill gives to an image, and you, my friend, you absolutely crushed it.
Which lens was this filmed with? Looks trippy.
Module 8 L3 Tuner with a Sigma 35mm F1.4!!! Trippy right?!
I have to agree - Fuji bungled the X100VI: 8 months backordered after big roll out, made in China now instead of Japan, same crap battery, no lens upgrade, focus no better. All we got is a new sensor for $400 more.
The Leica has got in your head bro haha, still loving my X100VI!
I agree
Fuji user here: you make good points and I respect your opinion. I enjoy my x100vi but I can't front: I have been looking at the Nikon Z f and of course Leica cameras. Problem is money of course and the x100vi would Cover the m240, but maaaan, I don't know. Manual focus only is not optimal right now (got four kids and sometimes not enough hands for manual focus). I got my Fuji xh2 though and that fucker has much better autofocus than the x100vi. Tbh, I am disappointed by the AF speed on the x100vi!
Hey man seems like the X100VI is still the best fit for you!! I have two nephews that I adore and I photograph them a lot with the M11. It’s how I’ve been training myself to focus faster 😂😂😂
I ordered one an hour after the pre-orders opened and shockingly got a first batch fulfillment. That said, I have rarely touched it. I also have a Q3 and that gets most of the click time between the two.
Man how would you compare the two? I haven’t tried the Q3, I’m curious tho
@@cammackey Throwing away the price difference, I just enjoy the shooting experience with the Leica more. MF is a breeze with the Q3 as opposed to the 100VI. I like the simplicity of the interface more and prefer the 28mm focal length slightly more than 35. Plus the lens itself is incredible. FF over APS-C as well. The Fuji is no slouch and some may say it is unfair to compare the two but I would not miss the Fuji if I got rid of it. The Q3 I would. Love the channel BTW. I'll take real working photographer reviews over MTF charts any day.
Cam, do you have nikon zf presets for sale for capture one?
What did you use to film the video Cam?
Sony FX3 and S9! Module 8 L3 Tuner with a Sigma 35mm F1.4
@@cammackey Thanks!
I feel like a more fair comparison would be the x-pro line. The x100 line is more of a point and shoot situation, compared with the other cameras yours in this video, that are more meant for profesional use.
All of these cameras can be used in professional use. But yes I agree, that would be a more fair comparison. Granted this video was less about comparing them and more about trying to get people to realize there’s other options out there
Just got a Zf with the 40 f2 and a viltrox 20 f2.8 for 1700 :)
Keeping my x100v and depending on how the Nikon experience goes , I’m selling my xh2s
Sick shirt cam where’s it from?
Hey, nice to have your opinion/comparison on these very famous and "hyped" cameras. Do you plan to review/try the Leica Q3 ? I think it might also be an option that you'll love 😆
I haven’t had too much interest in it.. but I’m down to give it a fo
Great video man! Subscribed. Where is your home town. Which city is this?
I wish that Fuji would bring back the XE series. As an only camera guy I want some lens flexibility but I need small because I'm often lugging guitars when I'm travelling and need to keep camera kit compact.
I agree there’s many cameras that produce far better images than the Fuji, but that’s not really the charm and point of the Fuji in my opinion? What makes it so exciting to use is that it’s such a small form factor that encourages you to always have it on you for those everyday, spontaneous moments that you may have not had a camera on you. That paired with internal flash, internal ND, Fuji simulations, incredible ergonomics are really all the selling points for me and why I love my X100V. The IBIS actually and higher megapixel sensor on the X100VI are actually two upgrades that perfectly go in line with the more “run-n-gun/everyday carry/spontaneous” uses the x100 series is so perfectly suited for.
When I have a planned out portrait shoot, I bring the x100v as a backup but it’s never the main camera, as I totally agree with you, it falls flat in that scenario. So much so that I ended up selling it because it was more of my “everyday fun camera” and the Sony A7IV is my work horse that actually pays the bills. However I do miss it for those fun everyday life moments and it was fun to have in my backpack on a portrait shoot if I wanted to lean into a quick retro “film point-n-shoot” look for a moment.
it also doubled as a great “light meter” to my film cameras during a bigger portrait shoot where I can confirm my exposure settings and would also show the model/client a quick preview on my Fuji before the 35mm or 120 is developed.
When I get the money and if it’s ever available I might get the X100VI just for my own personal work I like. The S9 truly would’ve been the perfect replacement for it (with WAY better video) if only it had an internal flash and mechanic shutter! I credit you for turning me on the S9, that camera really is nearly perfect and happy you defended your love for it, I also love it for the same reasons you talk about.
Agreed. But again my point was, I want juice for every my every day stuff. I have another video I’m doing where I talk about the Canon QL17 film rangefinder. That thing made me realize that fujis crop sensors will never have THE LOOK. So yes I agree with everything you said. And like I said, I really do love it. But personally, I think it would have been cool if they gave us a faster lens upgrade and better battery life. Ibis and 40mp in a lens that can barely handle it.. eh
Yeah same man, I love it but I would of loved it even more if it at least has a damn viewfinder gaha
@@cammackey yeah I totally get this. Your Leica M11 with the 35mm really does seem like the perfect replacement for your needs and maybe pair it with a tiny external flash if that’s ever needed. If I had the money I’d def go for that over the x100v lol, would be nice to just have one great camera for everyday and portraits and not have to bring multiple.
Thanks for taking the time to read and reply, love your content!
@@cammackey X100VI will never have the look, but crop sensors definitely can.
I am right there with you on the romantic feelings towards the X100 series. I have owned two versions to this point and LOVE them for travel and BTS, but there was always something missing (hence the past tense ownership). For me it was too big for an EDC camera, which is what I really want/need. I just pulled the trigger on a Ricoh GR III (28mm fov) in an effort to scratch that EDC itch. For travel, I think my GFX 100s II with a 40mm may be the answer... Until the fixed lens GFX comes out in 2025 :)
Keep on truckin'
Yeah idk what it is about the X100VI. I think if there was a full frame version, I’d be content. Hell, if Fuji just made any full frame camera.
