Seen Lane Johnson do this before. Amazing we got the rookie with enough understanding of his and defenders positioning to utilize it. The quick thinking/recognition of where the defender is and is approaching from is awesome to see from someone with so little experience. Steelers crushed these last 2 drafts. Benton,JPJ,Washington,Herbig,P.Wilson,McCormick,Frazier. Cannot wait to see Fautanu return and Broderick improve.
Hey alex!! great vid man!! when you have players especially rookies executing different techniques that isn't common, you know you have a special player in the making. I dont want to get ahead of myself but these types of signs tells me that him and frazier will be in the conversation for all pro in a few years.
Thanks, Alex. Great explanation. I was watching Broderick Jones on this play. Amazing how he can look so good on some plays, like this, and so bad on others. The potential is there. Will he eventually be a solid, consistent force for good? I guess time will tell. Troy Polamalu also took some time to develop - right?
Loved the design of this play to isolate Pickens on the outside. The interior o line didn’t retreat, holding their positions to sell the play action to the linebackers. Then you see Muth and Austin moving left to right in their routes across the face of any deep safety leaving Pickens one-on-one on the outside. Beautiful play call to target what Pickens and Wilson do best.
You said Darnell weighs 775 lbs. on Steelers Depot and according to Marvel comics Thanos is also 6'7" and 775lbs. Seriously though, he's only a couple hundred pounds lighter than Thanos 😮.
First I have seen that block from Mason! Thanks Alex! That really worked well. He has been a Mauler!! Hope he continues to get better. O-line has some real potential All Pros in the near future!!
@@paladin1726 He was already beat to the inside! It was the best available option to recover! As a Center in basketball, you don't have to see the person to box out for a rebound! Do you even athlete bro?
@@jcculmer9078 I didn't say the block out was a bad move. Did you vote for Kamala? Dude asked why this wasn't done more. I gave a suggestion as to why it wasn't done more. But if you really knew about basketball, you'd know blocking out is difficult to maintain even with basketball rules. As a coach, I run block out drills where after a shot, you're trying to block out your opponent in the same manner for x amount of time or allow the ball to bounce x amount of times. Not easy to do. Especially difficult to do when your defender is a ridiculously strong lineman. In fact, blocking out is being taught less and less in basketball due to its minimal effectiveness as athletes are getting bigger and stronger. Back to football, if you think it's easier to keep a guy off the QB when you can't use your eyes or your hands, you might want to keep that opinion to yourself.
Trivia: In Aussie Rules Footy this technique is called "sheparding" and is used in situations akin to a WR keeping or slowing down a safety angling over to tackle a runner
Aside from the Giants game, where he got pushed around a bit by their stud DT, McCormick has been a pleasant surprise. Once Faatanu is healthy, this will be a very good OLine.
This is actually a genius technique. This is high level stuff cuz when u break it down, this is the antithesis completely to the Dwight freeney spin for offensive lineman. In the sense that if ur skilled enough at this, it’s almost guaranteed protection just like freeneys spin move if executed well enough was almost a guaranteed sack. Cuz if you can “spin the spinner” there’s not many ways to get beat. (Plus the d lineman looked confused and uncomfortable with Mason sticking his butt out at him 😂)
Whatever it takes! The guy is a mailer with a good motor and plays through the whistle. Lots to like out of these rookies. He also got a little lucky because Williams stepped on his foot and pulled up a bit lame or he probably would have been blasted headfirst into Wilson’s lap.

Thank you. And agreed. It's really impressive stuff that says as much about his future as it does his present.

Yup time will tell. He's a young tackle. We'll keep watching.

Wow dont think ive ever seen that. Seems effective Thats exactly how you box out in soccer. I wonder why it isn't used more.
Probably dangerous to take your eyes off the person who you're defending.

Well it's pretty risky to not face who you're blocking. Just a last-ditch recovery move.

The butt block 😂. That DT was probably a little surprised by that 😅
I was thinking so very surprised he stopped trying.

That kid is a stud. He’s going to be really good.
Very cool Alex!
That is interesting 🤔. I like that, a good way to improvise. HERE WE GO STEELERS HERE WE GO 🚶♂️!!!
Uhhhh are you watching the game?
It’s basically like a speed turn by a corner. Your beat initially and it’s a risky quick countermeasure…
I like that comparison.

This block works good enough to hold the defensguy abother 0.25 second and half a step. Thats often all thats needed
Did the Steelers get 3 good olinemen in last year's draft?
Yes. And don't give up on Broderick Jones. He's too athletic and too big and strong. He needs time to develop
Short answer yes
@@markbrophy554it’s not his skill. That is making Jones look bad. it’s his effort and discipline

Well haven't seen much of Fautanu but I think they got at least 2.
Call it the BAMN Technique.

lol I like that.
3:56 blocking backwards
Steelers got lucky it won’t last
Boxed him out like Russ was a rebound.
Whatever works. I would call it a salvage procedure, Looks just like a b-ball player boxing out to get a rebound.
I want to say that, "This season under first round bounce Tomlin feels different."
