In this episode of Life in Looks, the supermodel shares her memories of that first Milan Fashion Week appearance (“I’d just met Naomi and Christy”), the Alexander McQueen shorts that - teamed with a waistcoat and Hunter wellies - became the most influential Glastonbury look of all time, and being daughter Lila’s plus one for her first ever Met Gala. Kate single handedly CREATED that "simple" but edgy 90s look. Her style was copied and copied on and on. She made a whole industry rich. Influenced the world.
Indeed. She’d dress for the day and the next day you’d see her style copied on the H&M mannequins. I think that’s why she did the Top Shop stuff, because they were copying her look any way. She’s one of the few if not the only model I know, who has her own, innate sense of style. She can put a look together on her own and it becomes a classic. In one of the other videos John Galliano says she taught him so much about proportion. She’s someone, who knows fashion. She sets trends.

Probably also has a lot of horror stories... the modeling industry is harsh even for adults, and she started young and apparently suffered a lot of anxiety, especially as she got pushed to jobs she wasn't comfortable with (like the topless Calvin Klein ad).

Yeah everyone today just copies pinterest people & social media trends. No one’s original or has their OWN style nowadays. And it’s not like they just incorporate things into their style they just copy. And don’t get me started with the models today. No supers and no real personas. The only people I can think of that have really dominated insanely good personal style is Rihanna.

God I wish I was able to experience this era of models, shows, and parties. Seriously on another level. I was just born when all this was happening but let me tell you, I was meant to live that era. Everything was so raw, so real, so authentic. From the models to the photographers to the energy of creative direction!! Gahhhh🫶🏽 If I could describe that era with one word.. it would be “fabulous” 💗
Yes, I was there to witness the true supermodels of the 80’s and 90’s starting with Gia Carangi, who’s story is so sad, yet so profound. Then Cindy Crawford came in and they use to call her “baby Gia,” because she looked so much like Gia. Check out old ads for Revlon Outrageous Shampoo, I always think of those commercials when I think of true supermodels like Cindy and Kate. ♥️

She has that same little naughty laugh I’ve seen in the film "Catwalk". Time could pass by, but she stills exactly the same! If you watch that film and the parts where she appears you’ll see that the way she talks and laughs and her eyes, all of that bubbly personality didn’t change at all! I love her! I remember devouring the magazine pages in the late 00’s only to see what she was wearing and try to copy it at home.
