      Looper The purple lightsaber has a second meaning that's why he was allowed to use that color.Jedi that use a purple lightsaber also tend to use a darkside fighting style called Vapaad;which allows a user to absorb Force Lightning into their lightsaber and use Force Rage without falling to the darkside.That's why he almost killed Palpateen.He was looping Palpateen's Force Lightning into his purple lightsaber.

      What about when Jamie Foxx demanded that the ending for Law Abiding Citizen be changed because he didn’t want his character Nick Rice to lose. I really liked the movie a lot, but I hated the ending. Because with all planning that Gerard Butler’s character Clyde Shelton did over the 10 years he would have never made all the mistakes he did at the end. Clyde Shelton would have completed his end goal and killed off those who were corrupt. Wish they filmed an alternate ending. Or they could have had Clyde Shelton complete all his goals, but still have Nick Rice kill him. I probably would have liked that ending a bit more.

    Samuel L Jacksons hairstyle in Pulp Fiction was a great accident, I think an afro would have worked but I think what they settled on perfectly fits his personality in the film.

      Samuel knows his black *
      Tarantino loves to exaggerate his characters and the contrast of straight flat "white" hair and the outrageous over the top African afro where to make the characters look cartoony almost. Having the afro "toned down" into a jerry curl with a bit of volume made it fit more naturally on him and he liked it, thus Sam L. Jackson knows what looks good on black people's head since he is black lol. He was comfortable with his choice and you should always go with your gut feeling.

      I think the purple lightsaber was a good move. His lightsaber is unique and identifiable. Something you want in any character in any movie.

    • @pogonavit
      @pogonavit 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jameslawz I agree. While I love all textures of hair, I don't think going with a style because it's the stark opposite is best. You hit it spot on with cartoony. But it's also hilarious to think someone walked into a wig store, saw that wig and was like "yeah that's an afro." I think overall it was a fitting choice, as I'm not sure someone in his position would go for over the top super noticeable hair.

      there really were irish cowboys i had a great great uncle that lived in the "cowboy" era of the west while i dont know if he was a gunslinger he did travel from town to town on different jobs rode a horse and had different types of guns i am told his accent was very strong and he knew a few languages

      I think most Westerns made today (granted there aren't that many of them) are not 100% historically accurate, but granted in the 19th century there were a LOT of Irish immigrants fresh off the boat (and some of them knew English as only their SECOND language), I think there were a lot more people in the west sounding like Liam Neeson than you'd think.

      personally i liked liam nielsons acting as the stereotypical villain in thousand ways to die. it had humor the the background of why his accent was strong, but in practice he was just a cold merciless killer, and nielson portrayed it well. it was a nice clash with the otherwise comedic film in my opinion. never going to be a classic, but i liked it as a westernbutnotwestern comedy.

A great many Irishmen worked for the Union Pacific building the Transcontinental Railroad and joined in the gold rushes, and there were even a few famous Irish gunfighters like James Leavy and Johnny Murphy. The Irish were NOT rarities in the west. Do Americans not know their own history?

      Americans tend to think that the USA was always full of local Americans since the first English landing, when they are in fact a country of mass immigration from a wide variety of places, and that these people didn't magically transform into locals when setting their first step into the country. The roughly unified perception of white Americans as a single over-arching cultural group is a fairly recent occurrence and has taken generations of 'melting pot' effect (not to mention the relative size of new immigrants being much smaller as the total American population has grown and immigration has been restricted).

      I know this post is 8 months old. I hear ya brother. I lived in the US for 2 years.
      1. As an Irish Catholic, I was always blown away how many Americans came to St. Paddy's Day parades. The vast majority of Americans, of Irish decent, are in fact Protestant. Catholics didn't come until much later, and invariably stayed on the East Coast.
      2. So totally confused for the longest time of what "Scotch-Irish" was. Until it dawn on me: Ulster Scot !
      3. The vast majority of Irish who came to America were the Ulster Scots. They hit land, and then travelled deep into the American Interior. They were the pathfinders, pioneers, and preachers that stretched America Westward and South. Sam Houston, left what was then Missouri, to what is how Texas ( Mexican Territory ) well before 1842. Who can forget the Hatfields and the McCoy's.
      4. Look at the Generals on both sides of the Civil War who had Ulster Scot descent: Grant, Lee, Jackson, Thomas, Cleburne, Meade, Stuart, Sheridan.
      5. How many Irishmen went to Mexico to fight for the Mexicans against Spain! Anthony Quinn ( Actor ) anyone.
      It's totally nuts !

      @@canadiannavigator3346 I was scratching my head over his comment, too. Do they think the Irish never had a reason to leave Ireland? If so they haven't read up much on their history. Not to mention that it appears that Liam Neeson was playing a gunslinger (correct me if I'm wrong since I never saw the film). Even if he's a cowboy, it's a fact that they took all kinds among cowboys. That was one of the first equal kinds of jobs a freed slave could get back in the day. They didn't care what you looked like if you did the job right. So given the prejudice against them at the time, I could see the Irish choosing that line of work for similar reasons.

    • @roflstomps324
      @roflstomps324 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No, a lot do not. Most people don't know that the original slaves of America were Irish. They don't know that the massive animosity between the colonists were between the original Irish slaves/settlers vs the ever hated British. Americans think Americans created America. They don't understand that former Irish slaves were the backbone of the rebel forces.

      No. Just no. In the settlement period of the American west, most every white cowboy actually started out east. As families moved west, the accents would slowly change as the conglomeration of people became more diverse. But accents die slowly in generations, since you listen to, and learn to talk from, your parents in your formative years. You pronounce words like they do.
      And there were a LOT of Irish immigrants in that era. It's not ridiculous to assume that poor immigrants would jump at the opportunity to by land for incredibly cheap, as advertised by the government as an incentive for people to move west.
      tl;dr
      Irish cowboy isn't far-fetched, and the "western" accent wasn't even a thing until the era of the cowboy had already faded.

    People forget that in the early days of America the American accent had not really become a fully evolved reality yet. An Irish immigrant even a second generation one would speak with an Irish accent. just like Neeson did.

    • @robbitt
      @robbitt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Why would you make this assumption? People had colonized the country over 250 years before the time of the"wild west". An American accent definitely existed by this point. Not to mention the fact there are recorded American voices from, at least, the early 1900s, which is only about 30 or 40 years after the time in question, so your theory really has no support.

    • @99EKjohn
      @99EKjohn 6 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      No, presterjohn is essentially correct. Immigrants during the early 1800's mainly stayed in their own communities and would speak with pretty heavy accents.Things like the NY accent are a hodgepodge of Irish, Italian, German and English. The Italian and Irish parts of that accent didn't come about until the mid 1800's when we had massive immigration from Italy and Ireland. If you were a second generation Irishmen in the early 1800's, you likely would of had an accent that had more resemblance to a current Irish accent than today's American accent.

    • @Ironbuket
      @Ironbuket 6 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      No need to argue about whether accents fade or not over time:
      The film was set in 1882 in the American west
      The Irish potato famine spured Irish immigration to the US from 1850 well into the 20th century
      Simples

    • @robbitt
      @robbitt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Ironbuket, you're correct of course, but that wasn't the debate. At least not the way I took it. A claim was made that a distinct American accent didn't exist in the late 1800s. It did. That's a completely separate issue from the accents of newly placed immigrants. There were Americans at this point who could trace their lineage back hundreds of years on the North American continent. That doesn't detract from accents of the freshly placed. Nor do the freshly placed negate that American accent.

      There would have been plenty of cowboys with Irish, Italian, German, Spanish, etc accents. There would have been many, many accents before the homogenization of radio/tv. There would have been cowboys with Boston, NY, Southern, etc accents. I think we think that cowboys all sounded a certain way from the golden age of cowboy movies and tv in the 1940s-1960s when most of the actors had California/Midwest accents.

      The owl would have out-acted him and he was scared of being in the Owl's shadow. No seriously Sam Worthington has no acting charisma whatsoever, every movie he has in he has the same stage presence as wallpaper (except less exciting).

    Most of those changes are actually reasonable and cool improvements (specially the Avengers one), except what Tom did to the Mummy and the High heels from Jurassic World (unless her character was secretly a masochist).
    The owl one with Sam Worthington, to consider the mechanical owl ridiculous when you are starring in a movie about ancient Greek gods, crazy mythological monsters and fantastical stuff happening left and right every second is really baffling (specially that Sam saw it as an attempt to ruin his career, what!?), it's not like the director wanted to put a mechanical talking owl into a WW2 drama movie or something, wth Sam, a little paranoid here or what!?
