    Looks like you are doing a great job the colour looks good for the base of the track still trying to work my layout out so watching your videos gives lots of ideas thanks for sharing 👍

      Thanks Clive! Thank you! Yes, I really like the colour and hope it'll make for a great base colour when I get around to adding scatter and static grass to the scenic elements! It's a shame that you won't really see it eventually! Lol! All the best, Ian.

    Evening Ian - nice little update - I was getting excited as I thought we might see the first permanent bit of track down - but it wasn't to be 😅. Don't worry if it takes a while to bring us all another video - we can wait while you deal with what life throws at us.

      Good morning Euan! Thank you! Sorry to disappoint you with not having any permanent track laid yet, but it surely won't be too long now? All the best, Ian.

    Little wonder it took 12 hours to go off, using Pepsi max….obviously, you should have used Corka cola 😅 all seems very thorough, nice job again , looking forward to the next update…real life allowing , take care, Phil

    Hi Ian,
    I think I can learn a thing or two from your painting techniques here - that sponge did a much better job than my cheap brush! Nice methodical work on the foam and cork sections :)
    I'm amazed at how you usually manage to get a video done week-after-week and I look forward to them, but Real Life must take priority - I hope you don't feel there's a pressure to get the videos out - you're doing everyone a free service, after all!
    Take care

      Morning Jonathan! Thank you! Yeah, sponges for painting are great! I've used them to paint most of the walls inside my house - although the sponges were a bit bigger in those cases! Lol! I think the pressure comes from myself wanting to make progress on the layout, rather than producing a video! Posting a weekly video makes me focus on something to do each week, although when time is tight, it can get a little hectic, as these things take much longer to produce than I ever thought they would! I quite enjoy the whole process though, so I don't really stress over it! All the best, Ian.

      @@iansngauge Lol yes good point - I have used rollers for the walls in the house, maybe I need a small one for the railway!
      Sounds familiar - I'm amazed at how long it still takes me to get a video together, and how much longer things take to do when trying to make sure it's captured clearly on camera. But like you, for me the video making is generally a hobby itself at the moment!

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@endoorrailway - Ooh, rollers, now there's an idea! Lol! Ah, yes, the number of times I've filmed something and then realised it was out of focus, and have had to film it again! I like the script writing and video production work, and yes, I think it's a hobby in itself too! All the best, Ian.

    have found when painting cork, foam and similar its useful to slightly dilute the paint - lets it flow into the gaps a bit, a touch of washing up liquid or dishwasher rinse aid helps too - does usually mean two coats but makes the painting vastly easier

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dale! Thanks for the advice! The single coat seems to be holding up quite well at the moment, although there are a couple of bits where you can still see tiny sections of cork! I must admit that I'm tempted to go over it a second time anyway! I'll have plenty more cork and foam to paint though so will definitely try your tips next time! Thanks again! All the best, Ian.

      Thanks Herbert! It's always reality that gets in the way of progressing fiction isn't it? Slow and steady is my mantra, and I'm sticking to it! All the best, Ian.

    Hi Ian, ah, real life, it’s in my way quite a lot at the moment, nothing done at all, I’m itching to get cracking again, hopefully won’t be long!
    Good start though on the tricky bit, I like that colour , that could find a place on Exehaven, where did you get that from Ian? Also the cheap brushes I buy are Spear and Jackson from Home Bargains, excellent brushes that don’t ever seem to lose their bristles🤔🤷🏻‍♂. I do like the use of that sponge brush though👍
    I know you won’t but don’t ever be under pressure to produce video’s, I did at one stage and it took a lot of fun out of the hobby!
    Cheers for now mate, John

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Morning John! Reality is so frustrating isn't it? Lol! I looked all over for brown paint, but it's obviously not a popular colour, as none of my local places stocked it! I eventually resorted to Amazon, of course, although it was a little pricier than I'd expected! Here's an affiliate link if you want to take a look: amzn.to/3rktY8o It doesn't seem to matter what make of brush I purchase, they always seem to leave bristles in the paintwork, I'll definitely look out for those Spear and Jackson brushes though! I think I use the weekly video more as a tool to help me focus on getting things done on Shelfington every week! I enjoy the whole process, so don't really stress over it, but if I started to, I'd step away for a few weeks! All the best, Ian.

    It's starting to come together. I think I should of used a broader cork bed, bit late to do change now!

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Simon! Yes, I've actually started to get somewhere! Can't imagine what it'll be like to get actual track down! Lol! Yeah, as you can imagine, I did a lot of pondering over the cork roadbed! In the end I decided against having the track run on strips to enhance the ballast shoulder! I can always remove it from between tracks should I want to implement a larger shoulder later! All the best, Ian.

    • @iansngauge

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It certainly is Paul! Talking of rail joiners, I'll be using some insulated joiners throughout the tricky bit, and am hoping they're not quite as scary as the metallic ones! We'll see! All the best, Ian.
