Amazing! I lived on North Road right next to Kew Gardens station from 2000-2010 so this brings it all back! The purple Silverlink 313s are what I remember most

NSE was so long ago. I always found the North London Line branding very strange (the diamonds with varying different colors), as opposed to the most straightforward ones NSE employed such as with Thameslink.

I think that diamonds design might date from before Network SouthEast when the Euston - Watford service was known as the Harlequin line (named after a shopping centre in Watford)

When I was a kid in the late 90s we went to kew gardens by train a fair few times. We came down the ECML on stoppers which were also class 313s, and then the north london line to kew (i don't remember where we interchanged? might have involved the underground?). We went on the tube a lot going other places, but those two aforementioned lines were the only national rail routes I experienced as a small child. So in my head, there were only two types of train: "underground trains" (the tube) and "overground trains" (class 313s). Then at some point I learned about high speed intercity services and had my little mind blown.

Damn that 2010 footage from here (10:24) could pass for the 80's.

Absolutely fantastic video thanks -- love that those sapling trees in the 1990s footage still there now. And was that a toot for you on the bridge in 2024? Change from the jobsworth reaction!

The jobsworth was wrong. He obviously didn't know the rules himself......

I used to commute through here from Richmond between 2010-2014 on District Line D-Stock. Fascinating to see how it used to be back in the 90s. I do miss NSE days. Also, I never knew they used 710s on this route now. I've been back there a few times in recent years and only saw 378s.

i don't think its that common of an occurrence

    • @CitytransportInfoplus
      @CitytransportInfoplus  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Only a few 5 car 710's were bought for services to / from Stratford (other Overground routes use the 4 car versions) and therefore it is relatively rare to see them 'out and about'.

I don't suppose you got any footage on board a D78 heading towards Richmond from here back in 1990 as that section of track was most musical to the ears especially with the sound echoing back from the houses.

Hello, I'm not sure - most of my rides for the D Stock were on the Wimbledon route - this footage has not been used yet because I'm waiting to see if I can add any more ex-Vivarail Class 230 footage,.

Love your contrasts videos. We had a video camera in the 1990s but sadly we never took it to London with us. We took a lot of footage in Florida though!

Kew Gardens isn’t too far from Brentford’s new stadium which is just walking distance. I haven’t been to Kew Gardens but I definitely would like to visit there.

I thought the 313's had hustle alarms when they were in Network South East colours. Certainly they did when I first went I on one in 1995.

C'est la vie when it comes to 70s Underground units. More often than not, you get both Bakerloo and Piccadilly drivers doing the same these days.

it certainly looks like they did, this would help reduce station dwell times and speed the service

The 1959 / 62, 1960, 1967 and 1972 tube stock fleets plus the A, C and D subsurface trains were all built using unpainted aluminium - which looked like white. Some R stock trains were also unpainted and eventually the rest of the R stock fleet was painted white to match.
The reason was that the trains were lighter (weighed less) so used less electricity and therefore more economic.
