Glad to see you back! I think the best analysis I saw of the MV for What is that it's shot to look like comic book panels and ever since I heard someone explain it that way it makes perfect sense. What is also the first of the MVs where it takes place entirely in the Nightmare. This and Piri are my two favorite Nightmare series tracks but which one I like most changes from day to day, lol. My DC bias continues to be whoever is on the screen at any given time, though each era does have members who stand out more than others. They've dropped a bunch of new covers lately as well as the two concert versions for Lullaby and Curse of the Spider, though I can't remember if you've listened to Raid of Dream yet.
Im getting there thats for sure! I will for sure check out the covers and the lives of those versions! I really love What. The rock influence is definitely heard! :)
"What" is still in my top 3 favorite title tracks. It's heavy for a Korean release and I love the syncopation in the second half of the chorus. Story-wise this is the first time they wear non-uniform outfits, which I believe is because they lost Yoohyeon (or at least her spirit) and are kind of broken. You can also see them search for her alone, not as a group. For me this is a song about the loss of a loved one and what that does to a group or family. I might be reaching, but this is the meaning for me.
They still have their almost epileptic seizure inducing editing with too fast jump cuts. I think that is really my only real complaint about their music, is their MV's. I watched a concert they had recorded, and while it had a lot of cuts, there was no where near as many as their MV's have. Ok, this is going to sound weird, but I'm hearing Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus in the chorus. Sped up slightly, but it sounds like achy breaky heart.
I know neither of those songs. Haha! Concerts by them are awesome! Jump cuts are something most kpop bands use at least from the ones Ive seen. I just enjoy the music a lot though! :)
